Chapter 2537: Leverage Of Knowledge.
The seer didn’t say anything and only stared intensely at Legion-12 with its numerous eyes.
But Legion-12 wasn’t intimidated. Instead of shutting up, he continued speaking boldly.
He said, “Now that I think about it, the pathway of knowledge and all the godclads in it might be bait. I think it is an open weakness that the god of knowledge had left out for people to use against him. But anyone who takes the bait will lose leverage against him.”
“So what you want to do is to take your cake and have it. You want to destroy the pathway of knowledge, thereby striking him where it hurts. But you don’t want to do it yourself so that you won’t lose leverage against him.”
The seer said, “I’ve forgotten that you’re a telepath and you’re currently rooting through that poor god’s mind.”
What Legion-12 said was right. The ultimate ability of the authority of the pathway of knowledge, called the white tower or the tower of knowledge, is known as the Leverage of Knowledge.
The Leverage of Knowledge is a passive ability that helps the god of knowledge gain an advantage over his enemies, the more he knows of them and their capabilities.
The more the god of knowledge knows about someone, the more effective his abilities will be against that person and the less effective that person’s abilities will be on him. So, anyone who wants to have any hope of defeating the god of knowledge must make a swift and decisive move when the god of knowledge is still ignorant about them.
This is why the god of seers doesn’t want to make a move against the pathway of knowledge himself and why he can’t get another god to help him. Only someone as desperate as the god of dreams would agree to help him.
But Legion is clearly not as desperate as the god of dreams. In order not to spook Legion and scare him off, she decided to lie to him about why she didn’t want to make a move herself.
But the god of seers wasn’t ashamed that his true motive had been discovered. After all, he hadn’t really lied. He had only said another truth. Everything he said about the god of knowledge was the truth, including his weakness to uncertainty.
The seer said impatiently, “So what if you know. Are you going to take the deal or not?”
Legion-12 smiled and said, “You have a deal.”
He, too, has a divine ability that increases the effectiveness of his abilities against his enemies and another divine ability that reduces the effectiveness of the abilities of his enemies against him.
What’s more, his divine abilities don’t require having extensive knowledge of the capabilities of his enemies. So he is not afraid that the god of knowledge will gain leverage against him.
However, he still made some demands, saying, “But I won’t make a move until I become a god. I will also need some time to prepare after that.”
The seer nodded in satisfaction and said, “You just got the Mind Palace and should need a hundred years or so to fuse with it. Since you’re so strong, you might not even need that much time. But I’ll give you an extra hundred years to prepare.”
“So you will have 200 years from now to fulfill your end of the deal. Is that enough time for you?”
Legion nodded and said, “200 years is good enough.”
So the god of seers swore, saying, “I swear on my authority not to reveal anything about the possessor of the Mind Palace and the god of dreams for 200 on the premise that the possessor of the Mind Palace will help me kill every single godclad in the pathway of knowledge in exchange for five subordinate gods or godlings. If after 200 years, he doesn’t fulfill his part of the deal, he will lose half of his divinity.”
Then he said to Legion-12, “Your turn.”
Legion-12 said, “I swear on my divine fragments to lose half of my divinity and divine power if I fail to kill every godclad in the pathway of knowledge in 200 years’ time.”
He doesn’t plan to fulfill the deal at all. But he negotiated seriously and swore the oath as if he was really going to do it. He did this to shut the god of seer’s mouth up without having to fight him now.
He thought to himself, “You’re right. I will take the deal. But I doubt I will be here in 200 years’ time.”
“And even if I were still around, there is nothing that says that I have to go through with the deal if you die before 200 years.
The god of seers didn’t know what Legion-12 was thinking. He only smiled and said, “Nice doing business with you.”
Then he turned away to leave.
Legion-12 watched him leave while sneering inwardly. But their attention was mostly on the god of dreams.
The god of dreams has reached his last legs. He is now stuck between an abyss and a large maw that wants to tear him apart and swallow him up. There is no more place to go other than downwards.
Since he was going to die, he became determined to do something he hadn’t wanted to do before. He stopped running and stood his ground as if to fight one last grand battle before he died.
Then he gritted his teeth and said, “I will die, but you will come with me soon enough.”
Legion already knew what he was going to do, and there was no way he was going to watch and let it happen. So the copy of their mind used the Mind Howl divine ability.
This caused a sonic shock to rip through the mind of the god of dreams. Unfortunately, this still wasn’t enough to stop the god of dreams.
The god of dreams had opened the floodgate and unleashed a flood. It was very easy for him to do so, as it only required him to stop holding back his authority.
