Chapter 1670: Clay figurines
Chapter 1670: Clay figurines
From MC’s Perspective
Stone Chambers,
We stopped working because Patrick and Otto found something inside the sixth room. So far, we have cleared out five rooms.
Those five rooms were filled with nothing but sand, but the sixth room held artifacts: small clay figurines.
I told Patrick, Otto, and Hank to come with me. The four of us walked into the sixth room, and my gaze immediately fell on the clay figurines.
They were shaped like humans and monsters, painted in blue and green. Internally, I was surprised.
I didn’t expect to find signs of habitation. It was possible that people had lived here.
Otto, Patrick, and Hank were observing the figurines as well. Each of them had different ideas.
“What do you guys think?” I asked.
Patrick said, “It appears that people lived here long ago.”
“Maybe tribes lived here in old times. Back then, this place could have been a normal forest,” Otto said.
The last person was Hank. Our gazes fell on him. Hank knew some old lore about the nocturnal forests, but he hadn’t expected it to be true.
He collected his thoughts and said, “Master, I know some old legends about this forest…”
“Old lore?” I uttered in surprise.
Patrick and Otto raised their eyebrows as well. They were new to this place, so they had no idea about the forest.
“Tell me about the lore,” I said.
Hank nodded. “I heard the legends in my childhood days. According to the lore, tribal people used to live in this forest.”
“But later, a catastrophic incident occurred, causing the tribe to disappear. Later, local forces explored the forest,” he continued. “They encountered something that led to a loss of life. After that, no one entered the forest again.”
“Many years later, wizards from various forces entered again. This time the losses were great. Even Magic Lords were reported dead.”
“Then the Mage Union declared the forest a forbidden area,” Hank added.
Patrick and Otto’s faces became serious. They had underestimated the dangers here when the master mentioned the forest being a forbidden area.
They knew the place could be dangerous, yet it had been days since they encountered any threats other than the local forces. The forest had been calm.
Just then, I felt the sensation of being watched. It appeared right after Hank finished the lore.
I glanced at the three of them and saw their reactions were normal. None of them reacted to the feeling, which meant they didn’t feel anything wrong.
I was the only one who felt it. I started to feel there was some truth to the lore; there was something in this forest they didn’t know about.
“Okay, let’s continue the exploration tomorrow,” I told them.
The three of them agreed. I turned back to the clay figurines and started using the System to check them.
I didn’t want any old magic to be lingering there. The System results came back negative. The clay figurines were likely just toys, made for decor or children.
I turned around to enter Gregor Mansion, but I noticed Otto and Patrick’s expressions change suddenly.
“What happened?” I asked.
Patrick and Hank turned toward Otto. Hank had heard from the two seniors about their magic capabilities, so he understood Senior Otto might have sensed something.
Otto’s expression was serious. He looked at us and said, “I hear a team of wizards headed by a Supreme Wizard traveling in this direction. They are likely going to bypass this place.”
Hearing that, my eyes narrowed. A Supreme Wizard could easily detect our presence. If that happened, not only would we be exposed, but the ruin’s existence would be exposed as well.
“How long will it take for them to reach here?” I asked.
“Twenty minutes,” Otto replied.
“Alright, the three of you listen to my order,” I said in a stern tone.
The next second, everyone felt a tightness in their mana cores. The crimson magic chains reacted. The three of them immediately felt the compulsion to obey; otherwise, their ends would be miserable.
They immediately felt the fear of death. The crisis of the incoming Wizard team was nothing compared to what they were feeling right now.
“I obey,” Otto said.
“Me too,” Patrick uttered.
“I accept your orders,” Hank said.
Hearing that, I felt satisfied. I told them to get closer and hold hands.
They were confused, but they followed the order. Then I asked them to close their eyes. I did the same.
Swoosh!
I touched Hank’s shoulder. The next second, the four of us appeared inside Gregor Mansion. I told them not to open their eyes until I informed them that the wizard team had gone away. They agreed to my order.
Swoosh!
I appeared back outside. Then I used the System function to track the current whereabouts of the wizard team.
The results showed that they were near. My presence was already shielded by the System; no one could sense me.
Inside Gregor Mansion, the three of them stood still with their eyes closed. None of them wanted to look.
They could feel the crimson magic chains binding their mana cores pulsating. If they broke the order, they might trigger a reaction from the chains.
They had thought they were able to earn the Master’s trust, but it appeared they had not.
Their Master didn’t trust them yet. They sighed in their hearts, understanding that they still needed more time. They continued to wait.
Outside,
The wizard team got near the entangled forests. An old man was leading the team of six wizards.
The old man was a Supreme Wizard. The other team members were Level 9 Wizards.
Suddenly, the old man stopped his footsteps. His hairs on his body stood up. He felt something or someone was watching them.
The Level-9 Wizards were clueless behind them. They didn’t know why the Supreme Wizard was stopped. The wizards started looking around them.
Because they found the faces of the Supreme Wizard was not good looking. They didn’t know whether the place was safe or not.
