Flash Marriage: My Penniless Billionaire Husband
Chapter 388: More Important To Locate The Person
As soon as Hammer spoke, he noticed Yvonne was around and quickly stopped.
James noticed his reaction and said, "It’s okay, go ahead."
Hammer continued.
"The person in the picture is Jeff Reed. 38 years old, graduated from the Department of History of Otolon University."
"You mean, he graduated from Otolon University?"
Yvonne asked.
Hammer nodded.
She was taken aback. If she remembered correctly, Grace also graduated from that university.
Could it be that they were colluding with each other?
"Where is he now?"
She asked impatiently.
"After Jeff Reed graduated, he started a company, but the venture failed soon after. According to our sources, he now lives in a small village in the suburbs of Otolon. He’s quite poor."
"Do you have an exact address?"
She asked.
He nodded. "Yes, I’ll give it to you right away."
He handed her a small note with an address written on it.
She held the note tightly in her hand.
James could tell all the emotional thoughts going through her mind at that point. He signaled to Hammer to leave them alone.
When the door was closed, he reached out to hold her hand and patted it gently to comfort her.
"If you want to go look for him, I’ll go with you."
"But you still have work to do in the afternoon..."
Without waiting for her to finish, he interrupted, "I can put it aside for now. It’s more important to find this person."
There was no doubt in his eyes and so she nodded in agreement.
In the afternoon, they drove to the address given by Hammer.
In a small countryside outside Otolon.
The two of them found Jeff’s residence based on the address on the paper.
He was indeed quite down-and-out.
He lived in a shack, with wind blowing in from all directions. It was a terrible place to live in.
"Are you sure it’s here?"
She peered at the door for a while, still unsure.
He paused and said, "We’ll know when we get in."
She nodded and was about to walk in when she was stopped by James.
"You don’t have to go in. Let me do it."
After saying that, he did not give her a chance to respond and stepped in first.
Seeing this, she could only wait outside the door.
Not long after, James came out and shook his head regretfully at her.
"There’s no one inside."
"No one?"
She was surprised. Could it be that they had found the wrong place?
"Well, do you want to make a call to confirm it?"
She proposed. After all, this place was difficult to find, and she did not want to miss any opportunity.
James paused for a moment and said, "There’s no need to confirm. Let’s go and ask the people around to see if there are any clues."
Hearing this, she nodded.
The two of them went around the neighborhood. When they passed by a small shop on the east side of the area, James intentionally stopped to buy some water and snacks. When he paid, he asked the landlady about Jeff Reed.
The owner was a talkative lady and she quickly shared about Jeff.
Only then did he realize that they were late. Jeff had just been picked up by a BMW an hour ago.
On the way back, he told Yvonne about it.
...
When she heard that the car that took Jeff away was a white BMW, she suddenly recalled that Grace’s car was exactly a white BMW.
Could it be that Grace was the one who took Jeff away?
She immediately told James. "Perhaps I know who took Jeff away."
"Who is it?"
She paused for a moment before looking at him and saying, "It’s Grace White."
"Are you referring to your aunt?"
He was confused.
She nodded. In the first place, this matter had revolved around her.
It’s time to meet Grace.
Just as the thought came to Yvonne, her phone rang. She took her phone out and saw that Grace was calling.
She was a little surprised.
What a coincidence.
Since she was going to look for Grace, it was perfect that she called. She answered her phone to find out what Grace wanted.
"How is it? My dear niece, have you made a decision?" Grace’s familiar voice rang across the line. There was a hint of sarcasm.
She had expected that she would follow up with her. After all, under the current circumstances, the longer she waited, the more unfavorable it would be for the White Enterprise.
But she didn’t expect that she would call at this time.
She knew that Grace must be worried that she would find out the truth because she took Jeff away so swiftly.
So she mocked, "Aunt Grace, aren’t you being too impatient? It’s only been a few days."
Grace didn’t care. "It’s enough time for you to think things through."
"Really? But I haven’t figured it out yet. I’m afraid I have to disappoint you."
Grace snorted coldly. "Seems like you would love to hear my sensational gossip then."
Hearing this, Yvonne’s face paled and her grip on her phone tightened. "Grace, I’m warning you, don’t mess around."
Grace sneered, "How dare you threaten me! What leverage do you have against me?"
"I..."
Yvonne was at a loss for words. Indeed, if Grace wanted to expose any scandal, she was powerless to stop her. However, she couldn’t just sit and do nothing.
Just as she was feeling anxious, she suddenly felt her hand was empty. She looked over in surprise and saw that James had snatched her phone away. He made a gesture for her to relax then said to Grace on the other side of the line.
"Ms. White is really good at threatening people."
He teased.
Grace instantly recognized his voice and sneered. "But I can’t compete with Mr. Taylor."
James did not want to waste his breathe with her and said, "How about this, if you have any requests, why don’t you tell me directly? Maybe I’m easier to talk to than Yvonne."
Hearing what he said, she was about to stop him, but he stopped her. He gestured for her to keep quiet.
Yvonne swallowed her words.
Grace laughed in jest. "Do you think I will believe you? James Taylor, stop kidding me. No matter how stupid I am, I won’t fall twice into the same trap."
Hearing this, James shrugged. "In that case, I won’t force you. However, let me remind you, don’t be ruthless. It’s gonna be awkward if we happen to meet."
...
After that, he hung up the phone.
When Yvonne saw this, she looked at him in surprise. "Just... just like that?"
James said, "Yes, just like that."
"She didn’t promise me."
"Don’t worry. I know what I’m doing."
He gently patted the back of her hand to comfort her.
She was obviously not as relaxed as he was. In her opinion, as long as Grace has bargaining chips in her hand, she was trouble.
However, she could not blame James. He was after all just helping her.
She began to feel uneasy about what Grace could do.
He could see her uneasiness, but he did not explain. Instead, he took out his cell phone and made a call. After a few words, he hung up the phone.
He put away his phone and turned to look at her, leaning against the window. He reached out and held her hand, which was beside him.
She glanced at him but did not say anything. She silently shifted her gaze to the scenery outside the window.
The Whites.
Compared to Yvonne’s fear, Grace was simply furious.
She didn’t expect that Yvonne didn’t fall into her trap.
She thought she could intimidate Yvonne with what she had in her hands and make her obediently do as she wants.
Out of nowhere, James Taylor appeared.
But, even with James, she was not worried. Grace got up to make another phone call.
Just then, her phone rang instead. She glanced at the it and picked it up with a frown.
"Ms. White, there is an emergency at the office, please come quickly." An anxious voice came told her.
Grace’s face turned pale upon hearing this, everything was thrown out of her mind.
She hurriedly stood up and walked towards the door.
She rushed to the office as fast as she could.
Her staff reported, "I don’t know who released the news to the market that we have
a cashflow problem. Several companies have put forward their intention to terminate our contracts. Please make a decision quickly. If this goes on, more companies will follow suit. I’m afraid the company won’t be able to hold on."
After hearing this, Grace almost collapsed.
Her staff rushed forward to hold her up.
How could this be?
It took her a long time to stand up straight, but her heart was already filled with fear and discomfort.
This news was fatal. Not only would it cause all the partners to terminate their contracts with them, it would also cause ripples in the stock market. It would be devastating.
Grace broke out in a cold sweat. Only then did she realize what James had meant when he said those words on the phone.
Could it be that James was pulling strings behind the scenes?
Thinking of this, she immediately took out her cell phone and called James.
At the Taylor Group.
After Yvonne and James left Otolon, they went back to the office.
Not long after they got back to the office.
Hammer walked in and reported, "Mr. Taylor, everything you instructed is done."
Hearing this, James nodded in satisfaction. "Very good. Thank you."
After Hammer left, he turned his gaze to Yvonne, who was sitting by the side.
Along the way back and till now, she had been silent and did not say a word. She just held on to her cell phone in her hand to the point that she was about to disfigure it.
Seeing her like this, James shook his head. There was nothing else he could do. He, of course, knew what she was worried about.
He paused then walked over.
