Flash Marriage: My Penniless Billionaire Husband

Chapter 387: Searching For A Man

Chapter 387: Searching For A Man

Yvonne glanced at the packed restaurant and nodded at James. She didn’t really care about what she was going to eat.

Led by the waiter, the two of them arrived at a corner table behind a divider and sat down.

The divider instantly buffered them from the noise.

After sitting down, James began to order. As he did so, he would occasionally ask for her opinion. When he found her uninterested, he simply ordered the dishes himself.

Not long after, the food was served.

He scooped up some of her favorites and put them on her plate. Then he started filling up his own plate.

She looked at the plate full of food in front of her but felt that she didn’t have any appetite at all. So she told him, "Don’t worry about me. Enjoy your food!"

He calmly said, "There’s no hurry. AYCE means we can take our time to eat. Come on, what else do you want to eat? I’ll order it for you."

"I don’t need anything else. This is enough."

She hurriedly stopped him.

He frowned, frustrated. "You’ve lost weight recently."

"Is that right?"

She subconsciously touched her face.

He sighed. "Yes. Not only have you lost weight, but you have lost a lot of weight."

She shifted her gaze away unnaturally, avoiding his eyes. "Maybe I haven’t been sleeping well recently."

Afraid that he would notice something amiss, she quickly lowered her head.

He stared at her. He knew that she was not telling the truth, but he couldn’t expose her. He could only watch silently.

Their awkwardness lasted until the end of the meal.

Both of them were quiet on the way back.

She leaned back in her seat and looked at the scenery outside the window with a sad face.

She was now full of thoughts about how to find the man in the photo. After all, he was the only breakthrough in this matter.

However, she didn’t have any clue at all. She didn’t even know his identity or any information about him.

A needle in a haystack. Where should she start?

She felt upset.

But no matter what, she could not give up. This was the only clue right now. She came to this decision in her heart.

On the other hand, James could tell she was troubled.

He had known for some time that she was hiding something from him, but since she refused to tell him, he wasn’t going to force her.

He could only order his men to investigate in secret.

Eventually, after a period of observation, they finally found some clues.

Early one morning, Hammer took advantage of her absence to secretly report to him.

"Mr. Taylor, you had asked me to send someone to tail Mrs. Taylor and I have some news."

"Right. What is it?"

James perked up and said.

"According to the sources we have gathered, Mrs. Taylor has been visiting entertainment venues recently. She seems to be looking for someone."

"Looking for someone?"

He thought for a moment and asked, "Who is she looking for?"

Hammer shook his head. "We don’t know, but the feedback was that she was looking for a man."

"A man?"

This made James even more suspicious.

Looking for a man...

Who could it be?

His eyes narrowed as he instructed, "Immediately inform the men to find out, as soon as possible, who my wife is looking for."

"Yes."

Hammer answered and left.

...

"Yes."

Hammer answered and left.

Not long after, a photo was placed in front of James.

Hammer explained, "The man in the photo is the person Mrs. Taylor is looking for."

James slowly picked up the photo. He stared at the man’s face in the photo and his eyes gradually narrowed.

"Other than this photo, what else is there?"

"That’s all for the time being."

"Useless. Continue to investigate."

James said angrily.

"Yes." Hammer hurriedly left, trembling with fear.

After Hammer left, James flung the photos onto the table.

So this was the reason why she couldn’t eat or sleep well recently? Was this why she was always so troubled with lots going on in her mind?

No wonder she had refused to tell him. She was actually looking for a man.

James felt a tight knot in his throat. He tore off the tie around his neck and threw it on the table.

Just then, the door of the office opened. When he saw Yvonne coming in from the corner of his eye, he quickly put away the photos. Then he turned around and when he saw her gloomy face, his fury was instantly lit up.

"Where did you go?"

When he suddenly spoke, she jumped before saying, "Oh, I went out to buy stuff."

As she spoke, she lifted the shopping bag in her hand.

However, he noticed that there was nothing of importance in the shopping bag.

In other words, it was a cover up.

When he thought of the photos he had hidden, he felt the anger that he had suppressed resurfaced instantaneously. However, he could not bring himself to question her and could only sit down angrily again.

"What’s wrong?"

Only then did she notice that he seemed to be in a bad mood and asked.

He did not look up. He just stared at the document in his hand sternly. "Nothing."

His tone was a little cold.

She did sense that it was a little odd, but she thought that it might be because he had been stressed with work, so she didn’t pay much attention to it.

It was not until he had rejected countless proposals and documents later did she realize something was wrong.

She looked at the unhappy James sitting at his desk for a minute, then walked over and asked, "It’s almost time for lunch. What do you want to eat for lunch?"

He did not look up and said flatly, "I don’t feel like eating."

"That won’t do. You need to eat something. It won’t be good if you get gastric problems."

As soon as she finished speaking, he raised his head and asked.

"Do you care?"

She did not expect this question from him so she was stunned for a moment before asking, "What, I... what’s wrong with you?"

Staring at her confused face, he felt frustrated and irritated.

"Nothing."

As he spoke, he got up from his chair, grabbed his coat, and walked towards the door.

She stood there, watching him leave with a blank expression on her face.

She did not understand what was wrong with him, so she turned her head and saw the mess on the table.

She rolled her eyes, signed and walked over to tidy up the table. However, as she was tidying up the mess, she accidentally discovered the photo under a few files.

Only then did she realize what’s wrong.

She couldn’t hide it from him anymore.

She put the photo back, picked up her phone, and called him.

"Where are you? I need to talk to you."

Not long after, in a quiet corner of the coffee shop at the ground floor of the

company ...

Yvonne sat there and hesitated for a long while before looking at James, who was sitting across her.

"You... ... already know?"

...

She asked hesitantly.

James raised his eyelids a little nonchalantly as he drank his coffee. "What do I know?"

His gaze swept over her faintly.

Yvonne felt a little awkward. He had obviously heard what she said, but he was still pretending that he did not understand. It seemed that she could only be upfront about it. So, she simply poured it out directly.

"Yes, I’ve been looking for someone recently."

Hearing her words, he thought, "Sure enough, when she said on the phone that she had something to tell me, I guessed it."

"Oh?" He put down his coffee cup and looked as if he was listening attentively.

She remained silent for a while before speaking.

"However, the person I’m looking for is someone that I don’t even know."

This was beyond his expectations. He looked over in confusion.

She continued.

"I only have his photos. I don’t know his name or what he does for a living."

He was even more confused.

"I know you must be very curious why I am looking for this person, but I can’t tell you now. If you believe me, don’t ask. When I find him and clear my doubts, I will tell you everything, okay?"

She asked for acceptance.

He did not speak. He thought for a while and said.

"If you want to find someone, why didn’t you ask me?"

"I..."

When she met his gaze, she bit her lips and did not know what to say.

Seeing that she did not respond, his eyes continued to linger on her face. "Or do you think I don’t have the ability to find this person?"

"Of course not. That’s not what I meant. I..."

She wanted to say something but stopped.

He stared at her flushed face and frowned. He decided not to make things difficult for her anymore.

"Okay, if you don’t want to say it, I won’t force you. But, I am going to find this person for you henceforth. As for you... I hope you can promise me one thing."

"What is it?"

She asked.

He paused then said.

"From now on, eat and sleep properly. Don’t worry about this anymore."

Hearing his words, her heart lightened up and she felt the heavy weight lifted off her shoulders. She nodded gratefully and said, "Okay."

"Let’s go." He finished the last sip of his coffee, stood up and said.

She was puzzled. "Where are we going?"

"It’s dinner time."

He glanced at his watch and walked towards the door.

She paused for a moment before following him.

"But you just said that you have no appetite."

"Now I have."

He gave her a wink before he continued walking towards the door.

She caught up with him with a chuckle.

After that, they had a great lunch. When they returned to the office, James immediately instructed his assistant, Hammer, to find the man.

He also told him that he needed to find this person in the shortest time possible.

After that, James went back to work seriously again.

Yvonne, on the other hand, wanted to be carefree. Since she had James helping her, she no longer had to make up excuses to sneak out and look for the man. She no longer had to go to those entertainment venues which were filled with people from all walks, sometimes too messy for her to deal with.

She went back to her odd jobs at the office.

A few days later, there was finally news.

One early morning, Hammer came to report to James. "Mr. Taylor, I have news about the person you are looking for."
