Chapter 41: Chapter 41: Mental Soothing

Qiao Suluo’s expression changed. Her predecessor was indeed quite ruthless, completely disregarding the life and death of her Beast Husbands.

As if remembering something, she asked the system, "System, how much silver did she sell Chu Moyuan for back then?"

"Sixty taels of silver," the system replied.

Hearing this amount, Qiao Suluo’s head throbbed. "Each one is more expensive than the last. To think Chu Moyuan was the most expensive."

"Well, Chu Moyuan had the best physique. He looked like he could take a beating," the system said.

"At first, your predecessor actually wanted to sell all of them to the Beast Fighting Arena, but Tushan Feishang and Yue Hanzheng couldn’t fight, so the auction house rejected them.

"She also planned to sell Que Hongjin and Bai Qianluo. However, her soul dissipated before she could carry it out, and then you crossed over, Host."

Hearing this, Qiao Suluo’s expression grew even more solemn. She searched through the original owner’s memories and indeed found some of those thoughts. Her predecessor had never treated Que Hongjin and the others as her Beast Husbands. She only took her anger out on them, venting the resentment of being driven out of the Capital City and wishing for their deaths.

Qiao Suluo looked at Que Hongjin, unable to suppress a twinge of heartache for him.

Que Hongjin watched the shift in her gaze. Catching the heartache in her eyes, his heart stirred, as if a corner of it had melted. "What is it?" he asked gently.

Qiao Suluo collected her emotions and said, "It’s nothing.

"How are you and Bai Qianluo recovering?"

She felt deeply guilty that they had been injured protecting her.

"We are fine." As he spoke, Que Hongjin reached out and gently smoothed her messy hair. His voice carried a trace of warmth.

"It’s all my fault," Qiao Suluo said with self-blame.

Que Hongjin comforted her softly, "None of this is your fault, wife. Please do not blame yourself.

"In truth, you also saved me and Bai Qianluo."

Qiao Suluo froze for a moment, completely confused.

Que Hongjin looked at her with a profound gaze. "If not for you, wife, we might have ended up like Chu Moyuan, and he would not have survived either."

Qiao Suluo blinked. "I don’t want anything bad to happen to you."

After saying this, she lowered her head, avoiding his gentle, beguiling gaze. She had a feeling that he knew something, or was perhaps testing her. But because of the system, she was on a mission and could not admit to anything.

Watching her hide away like an ostrich again, Que Hongjin sighed softly in his heart. He decided not to press the matter; it was enough that he understood. Her soothing of Chu Moyuan earlier had made him even more certain of his guess.

"Are you hungry, wife?"

Before Que Hongjin asked, she hadn’t noticed it at all. Now that he mentioned it, she realized her stomach was indeed rumbling. She nodded. "Yes."

"There is warm food in the pot. I will go get you a bowl." Worried that Qiao Suluo would be hungry when she woke up, they had prepared the meal early in the morning and kept it warm.

Qiao Suluo nodded and got out of bed to wash up. Seeing the plush toys and sewing kit nearby, she wondered, "Could Que Hongjin be making plush toys while keeping watch over me?"

"Host, while you were unconscious, neither Que Hongjin nor Bai Qianluo slept," the system spoke up. "They took turns watching over you."

Qiao Suluo’s expression shifted. "How long was I asleep then?"

"About a day and a night. You returned yesterday morning, and it’s already mid-afternoon of the second day."

Qiao Suluo’s face changed. "How could I have slept for so long?

"Even though I’m afraid of snakes, I wouldn’t be scared to this extent."

Even if she had fainted, she wouldn’t have been unconscious for that long.

The system explained, "It’s because you stimulated incredibly strong spiritual power at the time, Host. It can soothe the manic aura of a male beast and even heal a portion of their injuries."

Qiao Suluo knew that female beasts in this world generally possessed spiritual power, but the strength varied, as did the soothing effect on male beasts. "Then can I cure the injuries of Que Hongjin and the others?"

She wanted to heal their wounds. She wanted Que Hongjin’s broken, painful wings to regrow, and she wanted Bai Qianluo’s eyes to fully recover. Everyone had to be well.

"You cannot do it right now," the system said. "You can only use your spiritual power to soothe them, alleviate their pain, and make their bodies more comfortable so they won’t easily become manic or run wild. However, you cannot completely cure them yet.

"You have a special constitution, Host. As long as you form a Contract with one of your Beast Husbands, you can obtain the legacy abilities of the Divine Doctor. At that time, you will be able to completely heal their scars.

"Even Yue Hanzheng’s broken legs could be completely cured."

Hearing these words, Qiao Suluo was actually very tempted. Not because of the Contract, of course, but because of the legacy abilities of the Divine Doctor.

She knew that because his wings were broken, Que Hongjin’s body was constantly enduring pain. He was just very good at enduring it, never showing a hint of it on his face. They treated her well, and she wanted to treat them well in return—at the very least, by healing their injuries.

But considering how her predecessor had treated Que Hongjin and the others, even though she had changed, they would definitely not be willing to form a Contract with her.

"It’s good enough to have spiritual power. At least I can soothe them."

As for the Divine Doctor legacy, she dared not think about it for now.

Qiao Suluo walked out of the room, only to find that Bai Qianluo had already filled the basin with warm water for her. He had prepared all her toiletries, making it convenient for her to wash up.

"Bai Qianluo, thank you. Thank you all for being willing to protect me."

In truth, if they hadn’t protected her and just left her be, she would have died, and they would have gained their freedom. If a wife died, her Beast Husbands would be free. But they hadn’t done that. Instead, they risked their lives to protect her, which moved her deeply.

Bai Qianluo paused his movements, likely not expecting her to suddenly say thank you. He probably understood what she meant. "You are worth it, wife," he said in a clear, cold voice.

She was worth them risking everything to protect her.

Qiao Suluo sighed in her heart, feeling that they were truly wonderful and deserved to be treated well by her.

She quickly washed up. Bai Qianluo stood guard beside her, worried about her condition. Perhaps because he had been injured yesterday and hadn’t rested at all, his body was very unwell, and he couldn’t help but cough softly.

"COUGH... COUGH..."

Even though he tried hard to suppress the urge, he couldn’t hold it back, and a trace of blood trickled from the corner of his mouth. Bai Qianluo gently wiped it away.

Hearing him cough, Qiao Suluo turned to look at him and noticed that his face was indeed much paler than usual.

"Bai Qianluo, how are you? Are you feeling unwell?"

"I am fine," Bai Qianluo replied coldly.

Looking at his frail state, Qiao Suluo couldn’t shake the feeling that a strong gust of wind could blow him away. She wanted to reach out and touch him, but realizing he might mind, she pulled her hand back. "I have spiritual power," she offered softly. "Let me soothe you for a bit."

Qiao Suluo was already prepared for rejection. She thought, "Even if Bai Qianluo refuses, I must ask and try my best to help alleviate their pain."

To her surprise, Bai Qianluo agreed. "Alright. I will have to trouble you then, wife."

Qiao Suluo opened her mouth, suddenly feeling as if she had forgotten how to speak. This was quite different from what she had imagined.

But as long as he agreed, it was fine. She could help alleviate the pain in his body. She then took a few steps closer to him.

Suddenly, she caught the crisp, snow-like cold fragrance lingering on him. It smelled like plum blossoms quenched in melted snow, refreshing to the heart and mind, making one want to take a few deep breaths.

She then reached out her hand to gently touch him.
