Chapter 40: Chapter 40: It’s Actually Her!

Qiao Suluo spoke these words to Chu Moyuan with a trembling voice.

The system spoke up to remind her, "Host, he has a hearing impairment. He can’t hear what you’re saying. You need to soothe him more."

Qiao Suluo closed her mouth, speechless. No wonder they were all shoved onto her as Beast Husbands. Sure enough, not a single one was normal.

Chu Moyuan was only subdued for a split second. A moment later, his violent energy surged several times over, knocking Que Hongjin and Bai Qianluo back. At the same time, he instinctively lunged to bite Qiao Suluo.

"Ah, this female beast is going to be bitten to death!" a bystander cried out not far away, shutting their eyes in fear.

But just in the nick of time, he seemed to feel the warm touch of a caress and sense a uniquely warm aura. His movements ground to a hesitant halt. He gently nudged Qiao Suluo’s body with his snake head, as if investigating something.

Feeling the movements of his snake body, Qiao Suluo didn’t dare to move a muscle. With her hands resting on his scales, she chanted silently in her heart, "You must wake up. You must not kill me."

Perhaps the sheer force of her will was strong enough. Qiao Suluo didn’t even notice a faint light emanating from her hands, pouring into Chu Moyuan’s snake body.

Chu Moyuan increasingly felt that comfortable, warm aura, making him instinctively want to get closer to her. Thus, the irrational Chu Moyuan merely followed his instincts, wrapping his snake body around Qiao Suluo.

Que Hongjin and Bai Qianluo wiped the blood from the corners of their mouths and tried to step forward.

As if sensing something, Bai Qianluo grabbed Que Hongjin to stop him. "Don’t provoke him.

"His killing intent is gone, and his violent energy is weakening."

Although Bai Qianluo had a visual impairment, he was much more sensitive to changes in the surrounding aura. Que Hongjin had simply been blinded by anxiety earlier. Now, feeling the shift in Chu Moyuan’s aura, a look of sheer disbelief crossed his face. "It actually worked."

He had thought Chu Moyuan was doomed to die after going berserk, because in this state, even soothing would normally be useless. He would either completely degenerate into a Fierce Beast or be killed. But his berserk energy was gradually weakening, which meant he had been saved.

Que Hongjin stared deeply at Qiao Suluo with his picturesque eyes. His wife had created a miracle.

But Qiao Suluo had no idea. When she felt the snake body coiling around her, she was on the verge of tears. She hugged his snake body for dear life. "Don’t, don’t kill me! I will definitely redeem you, and I won’t abuse you anymore! I’ll even cook delicious food for you..."

Her instinctive fear of snakes made her forget that Chu Moyuan had a hearing impairment and couldn’t hear her, leading her to babble incoherently.

Little did she know that at this moment, as Chu Moyuan coiled around her body and felt her fragrant, soft, and warm aura, his out-of-control, bloodthirsty eyes gradually became clear. His spirit body vaguely seemed to hear her voice.

After regaining a sliver of lucidity, he looked down at the figure wrapped in his coils, a hint of surprise flashing across his face.

"Is this my vicious wife?" he wondered. "She’s actually lost a bit of weight and her skin is paler. She’s scared. She’s actually afraid of me? She’s never been like this before. Moreover, her aura has changed, completely different from the past."

In the moment he went berserk, Chu Moyuan thought he was going to die. He never expected to regain his sanity from a berserk state, which made even him feel it was inconceivable.

"Qiao Suluo?"

Hearing this voice, Qiao Suluo excitedly looked up at Chu Moyuan. When she met his snake head and reptilian eyes, she screamed in terror. "AH!"

She fainted on the spot.

Chu Moyuan instantly shifted back into his human form and caught her securely, pulling her into his arms. He looked down at the person in his embrace, dark, tumultuous waves surging in the depths of his eyes.

A short while later.

When the County Magistrate arrived with the Government Officials, he saw this very scene. "This... it’s just fine like this?"

He had come today to meet the distinguished guest before him. If this VIP hadn’t happened to visit their county town, someone of his status wouldn’t even have the right to grovel at the man’s feet. The County Magistrate glanced at the distinguished guest beside him, bowing and not daring to look at his expression.

Cang Jiuxuan wore a cloak that obscured his features, but he had also witnessed the scene just now.

"It’s actually her!" he thought. "She can actually restore the sanity of a Beastman on the verge of going completely berserk."

"Do not let anyone else know about what happened today," Cang Jiuxuan ordered. Otherwise, it would bring her danger.

The County Magistrate respectfully replied, "Yes, this humble one will make the proper arrangements."

The next afternoon.

By the time Qiao Suluo woke up again, it was already mid-afternoon. She was back home.

When she opened her eyes, Que Hongjin was keeping watch by her bedside. Seeing her awake, the gloom beneath Que Hongjin’s eyelashes instantly dissipated, and his brows relaxed into a gentle curve. "Wife, you’re awake. Do you feel unwell anywhere?"

When Que Hongjin spoke, his voice sounded as though it were steeped in the spring waters of Jiangnan. It brushed softly across her heart, instilling a profound sense of peace.

Qiao Suluo shook her head instinctively. "Nothing hurts."

Saying this, she tried to sit up. Que Hongjin leaned forward to gently help her up, wrapping an arm softly around her shoulders to give her something to lean on. However, just as she sat up, Qiao Suluo suddenly snapped back to her senses, recalling what had happened right before she passed out.

"Snake..." She murmured the word, her body giving an involuntary, slight tremble.

Since Que Hongjin still had his arm around her, he naturally felt this subtle shift.

"So she really is afraid of snakes now," he thought. Yet, even though she was terrified, she had still endured her fear to soothe Chu Moyuan and save his life.

Que Hongjin spoke softly, "We are home. Don’t be afraid, it’s all over."

His voice was deep and tender, colored with a clear, soothing tone. It was like a mountain hot spring flowing over bluestone, radiating a shimmering warmth that could easily dispel the unease in one’s heart.

Qiao Suluo’s thoughts were still stuck in that terrifying moment. She reached out and involuntarily grabbed Que Hongjin’s sleeve, asking tensely, "Chu Moyuan... how is he?"

She had tried so hard to get close to him and soothe him, nearly getting bitten to death in the process. She prayed her efforts hadn’t been in vain.

Que Hongjin’s fingers paused for a second before he gently patted her back, as if coaxing a little girl. Patiently and tenderly, he said, "He’s fine now.

"He has completely regained his sanity, and the violent energy radiating from him has completely dissipated.

"It’s just..."

Qiao Suluo had just been about to heave a sigh of relief, but hearing those two words made her heart leap into her throat. "Just what?"

"Are you really that worried about him, Wife?" Que Hongjin asked softly. Even though she was so terrified of snakes, she had asked about Chu Moyuan’s condition the very moment she woke up. It brought an indescribable, complex feeling to his heart.

Qiao Suluo’s expression shifted a few times before she explained, "It was my fault for selling him to the auction house.

"If something happens to him, my conscience will be troubled.

"So, I don’t want anything bad to happen to him.

"By the way, did he come home?"

She wondered if Chu Moyuan had returned home with them, since he was unharmed.

Que Hongjin shook his head. "No, he didn’t. The Qin Family arrived at the scene with his indenture contract and took him back to the auction house."

The auction house was a property of the Qin Family. On the surface, it was merely an auction venue, but in reality, it also housed a Beast Fighting Arena inside.

Qiao Suluo had never expected him to be taken back again. Her face darkened. She didn’t even dare to imagine whether Chu Moyuan would go berserk again if he remained in the Beast Fighting Arena. Would his life be in danger once more?
