Fated love: the unwanted bride

Chapter 2710: Grief of a Lost Cause

  • Next Chapter

No matter how uncomfortable these words made him, he had to admit, Sylvan Cheney had more methods, more foresight, and more boldness than he did.

He had lost miserably, and without any warning.

Sylvan Cheney delivered a crushing blow, leaving him no chance to breathe, effectively sentencing him to a life of obscurity.

Kieran Janus suddenly found himself unable to refute a single word. Up to this point, Sylvan Cheney hadn’t been joking, nor was he dreaming. As soon as tomorrow dawns, all sorts of documents will start arriving at his door!

Night, it is always night.

Sylvan Cheney spent a year setting up his plan; he didn’t show a trace of impatience or slip-ups before the time was ripe—something Kieran could never have managed.

His breathing quickened.

Beyond the bloodshot eyes of Kieran Janus, there was only the grief of a lost cause.

This time, he wasn’t even remotely prepared.

While he was still enjoying his vacation, emergency notices were flying in from UT to Phaket Island.

At first, he didn’t pay them much mind until today when he received a stack of documents.

With two days left on his itinerary, he urgently flew back to Old York, only to find it was already too late.

His every move had been under Sylvan Cheney’s control.

He thought he had lost his memory, had a daughter, and was about to marry—therefore, he would cause no more trouble. As a result, he barely monitored Sylvan Cheney at all.

In reality, even monitoring wouldn’t have revealed anything. Sylvan Cheney was diligently working at the corporation every day—overtime, socializing, negotiating, attending meetings, even personally driving to construction sites to "supervise," without a single flaw.

Both were cunning, yet he still couldn’t outmaneuver Sylvan Cheney.

Even now, with his gun aimed at Sylvan Cheney’s head, he remained the one at a disadvantage.

But Sylvan Cheney’s complexion remained calm, his chiseled features marked by deep lines, his eyes shimmering with an unsettling darkness, unperturbed.

Outside, it continued to pour rain, the whole world plunged into chaos, hardly a glimpse of daylight.

Kieran Janus’s hands shook; at this moment, he was utterly consumed by hatred, his emotions teetering on the brink of collapse.

At this time, Sylvan Cheney’s phone rang.

On the coffee table, the phone vibrated.

The name "Erin Janus" flashed repeatedly.

Sylvan Cheney glanced at the phone, then turned to look at Kieran Janus, a trace of a smile playing on his lips, unperturbed.

Kieran Janus hadn’t lowered his gun, so Sylvan Cheney didn’t answer.

A few seconds later, it disconnected.

But within a minute, Erin Janus called again.

Kieran Janus put the gun down.

Only then did Sylvan Cheney’s smile fade as he leaned forward, his long fingers picking up the phone from the coffee table and answering it.

"Evan, why didn’t you pick up? What are you doing? Staying late at work again? Didn’t you say you were coming to see me tonight? When are you coming? If you don’t get here soon, I’m going to bed." Erin Janus’s voice was as coquettish as ever, her tone teasing Sylvan Cheney.

Sylvan Cheney remained unresponsive, but Kieran Janus beside him was gnashing his teeth in anguish, consumed by hatred.

"Evan, why aren’t you speaking? Where are you? Did you just get out of the bath?"

"I’ll head to the hospital later," Sylvan Cheney replied, indifferent.

"Alright then, I’ll sleep later. The scenery here is really nice, and the nurses are attentive, but it’s been raining a lot lately, and I haven’t been out since I got here. Why not stay over tonight? You always say you’re not used to sleeping here, but it’s actually okay."
