Evolution: From Little Devil to Devil Empress

Chapter 191: Zerg

Chapter 191: Zerg

The following murals followed the adventures of the evil Founding Emperor. It vividly displayed how he slaughtered and devoured the beasts one after another, ruining the previous peace of the continent.

Once he had gotten strong enough to hold his ground, he banded together with creatures looking similar to him and established his own force.

“I know that the humans’ legends mainly talk about the Founding Emperor during the war between humans and us. But you should know that he was not the only one.”

“There were millions of beasts at the time. How could he have possibly slain them all alone?”, the illusory being’s voice came from the side and accurately reached Liora’s ears.

The next murals confirmed its words.

Soon after the Founding Emperor gathered enough humans, he performed a ceremony praying to the Gods using the blood of thousands of beasts.

The sky parted as if a giant axe had cut across it, looking as if the end of the world was coming.

From the opening, numerous orbs descended, flying towards the earth. There were one hundred and eight of such orbs, each falling onto the tallest and most terrifying of humans.

The figures of the humans expanded the moment they touched these orbs, obviously receiving the benefits of having integrated with the “Godheads”.

But Liora didn’t pay much attention to these humans. Though she knew that they should be the ancestors of the current nobles, such as Marquis Lavender, Duchess Lobelia, and even Eleanor, they were nothing but a bunch of ants to her.

What Liora actually focused on was the sky, or rather the gap in it. She could see that a creature was hidden inside.

Being the one who bestowed their divine blessing on humans, people of this world would have called it a God. But in the mural, the creature’s appearance was totally different.

It was a beautiful woman with black hair that flowed behind her back and a pair of icy cold eyes that gazed towards the continent. A long dress clung to her figure, highlighting her curves and perfectly sculpted body that looked created by the gods.

Such an appearance was truly breathtaking, charming yet elegant at the same time. However, this was merely an aspect of this woman.

A mountain of flesh could be seen lying down beneath her feet, squirming eerily as if it possessed a will of its own. The flesh would open from time to time, and an insect would step out of it before howling towards the sky.

The most terrifying thing was not this, however.

What was truly horrifying was that the woman was not merely stepping on this mountain. Instead, it seemed that the two of them were seamlessly integrated together. Or to be more accurate, the two were one and the same.

Liora’s eyes showed no fluctuation upon glimpsing this scene.

A monster was just a monster after all. She had seen many of them before, both during her stay on the Crucible and in this world.

What was there to be shocked or scared about?

But the next moment, Liora’s pupils shrank into needles. Her blood boiled, and from deep within her bloodline, a stream of memories burst out.

Many unfamiliar terms popped up in her mind.

Zerg, Otherworld Invaders, Devouring, Consuming, Birth, Multiplying…

At the same time, many images depicting ruined battlefields flashed in her field of vision. All of these battlefields were of Devils, with the other side being menacing insects that surrounded women looking similar to the one on the murals.

When she digested those memories, Liora had understood almost everything.

“Zerg…”, she muttered this term, which had been unfamiliar to her just a couple of seconds earlier.

After all, the memories within the bloodline of Devils were almost infinite, dating back billions of years.

It was impossible for a mere Lesser Devil like Liora to fully digest them. Even True Devils and Great Devils did not have such an ability.

What Liora had instinctively digested was only part of these memories, containing the most important and useful pieces of information.

It was only after she came into contact with relevant items and people, or chose to dig into the memories on her own accord, that she would get more information.

But once she did, she would almost become an expert on the subject.

This “ability” was another major advantage of Devils. Even if they possessed no other abilities, such an advantage was already big enough to help them stand at the apex of the Heavens.

“Zerg, a race of unknown origin whose sole purpose seems to be to invade other worlds. They are quite similar to Devils in that.”

“However, unlike Devils, who invade other worlds to plunder resources and enhance their strength, the Zerg are keen on invading worlds in order to devour them. Through digesting their energy, the Zerg Hives can give birth to Zerg Servants, easily expanding their personal army.”

According to the information she had just obtained, the Zerg race was divided into two different species: Zerg Hives and Zerg Servants.

Zerg Hives were similar to the Queen Bee in a beehive, and their main purpose was to devour resources and reproduce. On the other hand, Zerg Servants were the soldiers whose sole purpose in life was to collect materials and protect their Queen.

Zerg Hives had absolute control over their Zerg Servants. They could control them like marionettes, grant them intelligence if they wished, or simply wipe them out with a single thought.

Zerg Hives were considered the real members of the Zerg race, with Zerg Servants existing just to serve them.

Such a system had been tried in various races in many worlds. But most of such cases, if not all, had resulted in the race to ruin.

Eventually, the servant class would rise up and take revenge by killing their masters.

However, the Zerg was different. Not only had they not gone extinct, but this race had spread throughout the Heavens, feared by countless civilizations.
