Chapter 190: Murals
Chapter 190: Murals
After saying those cryptic words, this unknown person did not speak further. Instead, it turned around and gestured for Liora to follow it.
For a moment, Liora wondered if she should take this opportunity to leave. But in the end, her curiosity and the need to find answers as soon as possible emerged victorious.
Of course, she was not being mindless or reckless.
“I don’t believe that there can be a second being as strong as this person in the Ancient Beast Wilderness. In fact, it’s already amazing that this low-level world was able to give birth to such a creature.”, she thought.
“With my current strength, I’m indeed unable to do anything to it. But similarly, the transformation of the Myriad Devils Body renders it unable to do anything to me.”
“Unless I seek death or I’m besieged by a large number of Lesser Devils, my safety is basically guaranteed.”
Even if all the above were wrong and she found herself in danger, Liora had other ways to escape.
Hence, not worried about her survival, she chose to follow the illusory silhouette.
The two walked deeper into the Ancient Beast Wilderness. When she had first visited this place, Liora had been led to believe that the wilderness stretched infinitely.
But this was, of course, an illusion caused by her lack of strength at the time.
Now that she had recovered her strength and become a Lesser Devil again, let alone the Ancient Beast Wilderness, even the Knight World itself felt extremely small to her.
“This is not because of its small size, but because of its low level. This world was originally not meant to ’house’ Lesser Devils after all. I’m afraid that this world would instantly shatter if a True Devil unleashed their full strength.”
“This is the difference in conceptual level. How can an ’illusion’ contain a ’real’ thing?”, Liora thought silently as she made her way through the wilderness.
The two of them were not noticed by any of the surrounding beasts during their travels.
Although they passed right next to them and even touched some of them, a strange power shrouded them, rendering these beasts unable to sense them.
Their speed was very quick. Before long, Liora understood that they had reached their destination as the being’s movements came to a stop.
Looking around her, Liora discovered that they had truly reached the center of the Ancient Beast Wilderness. This place was not much different from what she had seen in the rest of the forest.
Everything was covered in darkness as if ink had been splashed everywhere, while shadows rippled eerily beneath the plants. The only difference that Liora discovered was that there were many powerful auras around, with some of them faintly surpassing the Great Knight rank.
Although these beasts had not truly become Kings of Knights, they were extremely close to advancing.
“This is the place.”, Liora heard the illusory silhouette say as it pointed to a nearby mountain that fit perfectly with the surrounding environment.
Unless someone pointed it out, no one would discover that there was anything special about it.
However, when the being waved its hand, the whole mountain trembled. Rocks fell down as a gap appeared on one of its sides, and an entrance was revealed to the outside world.
The illusory being didn’t say anything. It motioned Liora to follow it and leaped into the gap.
Having reached this place and sensing no danger from within the mountain, Liora did not hesitate.
With a leap of her own, she entered the opening and followed the creature’s footsteps.
Soon, she found herself in a long and wide corridor.
The corridor seemed to have been made for giants, as it was tens of meters wide, while its height was more than enough to contain the tallest beast in the entire wilderness.
However, Liora’s attention did not stay at its size. Instead, her eyes were glued to the corridor’s walls, where strange murals were engraved.
The word engraved seemed strange to use. The murals were etched into them and coexisted perfectly with the walls, as if they had always been a part of them.
Liora focused on the mural closest to the entrance. It depicted a large flat continent seen from the sky, covered in a lush and vibrant forest.
She did not recognize it at first, but considering her current location and the history she had previously read, she soon recognized what this forest was.
“The Ancient Beast Wilderness. Or to be more accurate, the Ancient Beast Wilderness of a few centuries ago…”, she realized.
Her thoughts were proven to be correct.
The blurry being, who had remained silent since their journey began, stood beside Liora and spoke up:
“Do you see? This is the Ancient Beast Wilderness of three hundred years ago. Back before that person’s emergence. Back before the war with the humans began…”, it said.
It did not need to point out who that person was. Liora immediately understood.
This person was talking about the Founding Emperor, the person solely responsible for the human race’s rise, according to the legends.
The following murals confirmed her guess. The first ones showed a tranquil forest filled with beasts living a carefree and relaxed life.
No bloodshed. No war. Only silence and beauty.
But the next murals changed.
A person suddenly descended from the sky and began slaughtering these innocent beasts. Blood turned into rivers, corpses piled onto mountains, and the Gate to Hell seemed to have opened.
The appearance of this person was vividly displayed.
With crimson skin, tentacles growing out of their back, and a deformed body, they looked eerie and terrifying, like a monster used to scare children.
Clearly, this was the Founding Emperor.
However, when Liora compared his appearance to the Founding Emperor she had seen during her assimilation of the Twilight Wolves’ memories, she discovered that they were completely different.
This one was much more terrifying, ugly, and above all, evil. But with her intelligence, she understood the reason.
“Humans like to distort their enemies’ appearance to better mystify their history and band together against a common enemy. It makes sense that beasts would do the same.”, Liora thought and nodded her head.
Then, she walked over to the next mural, ready to see what would happen.
