Jane Lancaster didn’t pay the little incident any mind.

She wasn’t surprised by the actions of Adrian Lancaster’s fans. After all, their idol, whom they cherished so dearly, had been harmed so badly. Who wouldn’t feel heartache?

The fans were irrational, but the person fanning the flames from behind the scenes was far from endearing.

Jane Lancaster gave a signal, and the two bodyguards who had been following her covertly quickly came to her side.

"Let’s talk in the car," Jane Lancaster said.

The car sent by Jasper Sterling was parked in a spot by the roadside. Will got in to drive, while Jane Lancaster and Wayne sat in the back.

Before that, Jane Lancaster had made a call to turn down the car sent by Timothy Lancaster, saying she was going out with friends.

She didn’t even blink when she lied, her tone casual and ordinary. She even took the opportunity to ask Timothy Lancaster for some money, saying she wanted to go on a shopping spree.

Timothy Lancaster didn’t hesitate. He immediately transferred a million yuan to her after hanging up.

Jane Lancaster looked at the money, smiled, and turned off her phone screen.

"Alright, let’s get down to business."

She took out a pen and paper from her bag and wrote down several names.

Vincent Holt, Jim Jenson, Sean Grant. The tip of her pen paused for a moment, then she added Chloe Dave.

"These few for now."

Wayne’s expression tightened. These people all had a grudge against Jane Lancaster and had been making a lot of trouble behind her back. They were probably planning something big soon.

But hadn’t Jane Lancaster told them not to worry about what they were doing?

"Miss Lancaster, you’re..." He couldn’t figure out her intentions.

Jane Lancaster said, "Find out the places they frequent, identify the best spots for an ambush—avoiding any surveillance cameras—and then get me several burlap sacks. Don’t worry about the rest."

Wayne and Will: "!!!"

"What are you planning to do, Miss Lancaster?" Will asked anxiously, his hands gripping the steering wheel. "If there’s anything, you can just leave it to us."

Jane Lancaster shook her head. "No, that won’t work. If I don’t beat them up myself, I won’t feel right."

"Once you have the routes figured out, give them to me by noon tomorrow. After that, you can take a three-day vacation."

Jane Lancaster glanced outside. They were about to arrive at the mall. "Pull over. I’m going to buy something."

Since she’d said she was going on a shopping spree, she had to spend the entire million Timothy Lancaster had transferred her.

Watching her retreating back, Wayne thought for a moment. This wasn’t a small matter; he had to report it to Jasper Sterling.

Jasper Sterling listened calmly, then chuckled. ’That’s just like her.’

"It’s fine. Just do as she says."

Wayne: "But will Miss Lancaster be in danger by herself?"

He could tell that Jane Lancaster had trained seriously in martial arts since she was young, but being in a vegetative state for three years had weakened her constitution considerably.

No matter how well she planned the ambush, she might not be a match for those people—especially Sean Grant, who not only had bodyguards but was also a longtime martial artist himself.

To risk it all just to beat someone up and vent her anger—if anything went wrong, the loss would far outweigh the gain.

Jasper Sterling gazed at the scenery outside his office’s floor-to-ceiling windows, the corners of his lips curling up slightly. "Don’t worry. She won’t be alone."

——

Inside the mall, Jane Lancaster went to a high-end counter and bought a South Sea pearl necklace.

The saleswoman enthusiastically introduced it, "This necklace is made with perfectly round pearls, and their luster is absolutely beautiful. You can see the sheen here..."

"This one, then. I’ll take it."

"Right away!"

After paying, there wasn’t much left of the million Timothy Lancaster had transferred her.

The South Sea pearls were round and large, exuding a cool, silvery-blue light—exceedingly opulent. Because they were so ostentatious, few young women bought them.

Jane Lancaster wore the necklace as she walked out of the store and immediately sensed someone was secretly taking pictures of her.

She wasn’t bothered, though. She found a cafe with good privacy to rest.

The privacy here was good; finally, there were no more strange gazes following her.

[Are you really going to beat those people up yourself?] the System asked curiously.

Jane Lancaster replied, "Yeah."

[But aside from venting your anger, doing this won’t change anything.]

Jane Lancaster shook her head. "No, venting my anger is enough."

She took off the necklace and put it away safely. "I’ve always been a petty and vengeful person. They’ve been slandering and framing me behind my back, so why can’t I get my revenge?"

Before the console, The Black-Haired Oracle remained silent for a long time.

He didn’t quite understand why she felt she absolutely had to do this.

Not only was it risky, but the public opinion back in Aethelgard could easily turn against her.

Many people supported her now. If she maintained this, once her starlight surpassed a certain threshold, she could be exempt from judgment, giving him more room to maneuver.

He waved his hand and glanced at the direction the comments were heading.

"Holy shit, what kind of high-society lady is this? She’s just a damn delinquent!" This was the first comment he saw, and his expression darkened slightly.

As expected, the residents of Aethelgard, who had always revered peace and considered kindness a virtue, couldn’t accept something like this.

He lowered his gaze and continued reading the comments.

[She asked for prop knives, she’s not thinking of killing someone, is she?]

[She’s got a lot of nerve. It’s definitely possible!]

[There have been task-takers who exploited bugs before, stabbing the protagonist to death right before leaving a small world. They thought they could get away with it, but they were stupid as hell and just ended up on the chopping block.]

[She was a delinquent to begin with! She was a bully even when she was little. That time with Sean Grant when they were kids, he was injured so badly he almost died. How dare she try to get revenge?]

[I support Sean Grant turning the tables and killing her!]

[Stop with the double standards. It’s okay for the protagonist to hurt her, it’s okay for the villains to get revenge on her, but she’s not allowed to fight back, is that it?]

[I support Jane Lancaster beating them up. They’re just such assholes!]

[I admit I’m not a saint, but I don’t think she’s wrong!]

[This is Thomas Lane. I don’t believe Jane Lancaster would kill anyone. Judging from the times she saved people before, she’s clearly someone who has a deep respect for life.]

[Exactly! During that hostage crisis, she was willing to trade her life for another’s just to save those three people. She’s never been a malicious person who disregards human life.]

Reading the last few lines, the great weight that had been pressing on The Black-Haired Oracle’s heart finally lifted.

He had been emotionally detached since his creation, believing only in rules, which made him a natural arbiter.

This was why, among the 14 priests of The Sanctum, his power was the greatest and he presided over the most small worlds.

His gaze fell upon the four words "deep respect for life," a thoughtful expression on his face.

For one who holds the scales of justice, failing to have a deep respect for life would spell utter disaster for the small worlds.

Number 14’s recent style of conduct was very similar to that of Number 2, who had already fallen.

That one had once laughingly claimed that the small worlds were merely playgrounds for the gods. Lacking any sense of reverence, he acted wantonly, causing many small worlds to perish. He himself suffered a huge backlash and was destroyed along with them.

The Black-Haired Oracle pulled back his thoughts. He had, of course, witnessed the evil in human nature. There were many who, believing they could escape the small worlds and the constraints of law and morality, went on killing sprees.

But Jane Lancaster was clearly not one of them.

Therefore, no matter what she wanted to do, he was willing to help her achieve it.

[Do you need my help?] he asked. ’I can’t be less useful than that Jasper Sterling, can I?’

After a pause, he added, [You gave your two bodyguards a vacation because you don’t want to get them involved, right?]
