Everyone Can Hear My Thoughts, and Now They're Panicking
Chapter 278: Do You Really Think She’s Not That Kind of Person?
"They’re just employees. I could just walk away, but I can’t let them go to jail because of me, right?"
Jane Lancaster’s tone shifted. "Sys, you’re getting more and more considerate. In that case, how about you help me block the surveillance cameras?"
"Okay," the mechanical voice stated.
The corners of Jane Lancaster’s lips lifted slightly. "Thanks."
The next day at noon, Jane Lancaster got the route map.
That afternoon, she took a taxi to scout out a few locations and familiarize herself with the terrain.
All that was left was to wait for nightfall to make her move.
Vincent Holt had been in a good mood lately. He’d worked his way up to an admin position in the "Anti-Jane Lancaster" group chat and found many kindred spirits.
Most importantly, he had also pulled someone into the group: a man named Zach Miller.
He’d found it strange when Caleb Lowell first placed Zach in one of the branch companies. Why would Caleb go out of his way to arrange a job for a complete stranger, someone who was neither a friend nor family?
Now he understood. The guy wasn’t a stranger at all—he was just some poor schmuck.
Just because he’d secretly filmed a video of Jane Lancaster beating someone up, Julian Lancaster had fixed him up with a mountain of gambling debt, ruining his promising future. And he didn’t even dare to complain.
Because Julian had evidence of his blackmail and could send him to prison in a heartbeat.
Since he was the enemy of his enemy, he was now his friend.
Vincent Holt generously declared that he had Zach’s back now. He told him not to be afraid of the Lancaster Family and promised that if he stuck with him, he’d live a life of luxury and have a brilliant career.
But this was definitely not what he had in mind.
"What? You quit?" In his office, Vincent Holt slammed his hand on the desk.
"How could you quit right now? I pulled so many strings to make you a manager!"
Zach Miller replied, "But the Lowell Group is about to go under. The rumor at the office is that they’ll stop being able to pay salaries soon. I can’t just starve, can I?"
Vincent Holt yelled, "Who told you the Lowell Group is going under?!"
’Why is he suddenly so angry? It’s not like I’m the only one saying it.’
After a moment, he added, "Young Master Holt, didn’t you say we were going to be partners and build an empire together? Since I’ve already quit, how about I come work for you?"
’What an idiot. The Holt Family is barely staying afloat thanks to orders from the Lowell Group.’
He had planted Zach Miller in that position precisely to create advantages for the Holt Family!
And what does this guy do? He bails at the most critical moment, making all the money and favors Vincent had invested go completely down the drain!
He wanted to curse him out but thought better of it and held his tongue.
’No, this guy is still useful. I still want to use him as a trump card to humiliate Jane Lancaster.’
"What’s wrong? Can’t I?" Zach Miller’s expression darkened. ’Is he just playing me for a fool?’
Vincent Holt forced a smile. "Of course you can! I’d be happy to have you! But I need to arrange a position on my end. Give me a week, then come in for the handover."
Zach Miller said, "Okay, but... it’s my girlfriend’s birthday today. Could you possibly advance me a month’s salary?"
Vincent Holt transferred ten thousand yuan to him and patted his shoulder with a casual flourish. "Have a great night with your girlfriend."
He saw Zach Miller to the elevator. Once the doors closed, he took the private elevator in his office downstairs.
He was heading to the clubhouse where he and his buddies always hung out to figure out how to help Caleb Lowell get through this crisis.
Meanwhile, after Zach Miller got downstairs, he didn’t leave right away. Instead, he circled around to the other side of the building and hid around a corner to watch.
This area was an industrial park, a property the Holt Family had acquired back when they first made their fortune.
To keep it separate from the employee elevators, a private elevator for the Holt Family had been built at the back of the building, which led to a small surface parking lot.
And sure enough, a few moments later, he saw Vincent Holt emerge from the private executive elevator.
Zach Miller’s eyes instantly turned red with rage. ’These damn capitalists are all the same, just playing me for a fool!’
Whether it was Julian Lancaster, Caleb Lowell, or Vincent Holt, they had all just been stringing him along to get their hands on that video!
Not a single one of them was any good!
Vincent Holt had just gotten downstairs when he received a phone call.
"What? You got beat up?" he asked, astonished. "Who would be so bold? Who would dare to lay a hand on you?"
Chloe Dave was the most level-headed and best-tempered person in their whole group. Why would anyone be looking for trouble with him?
"Don’t tell me Jane Lancaster hired someone to do it," he quickly concluded.
’Whether it was her or not, I’m pinning it on Jane Lancaster first.’
Chloe Dave replied, "That’s impossible, right?"
"How is it impossible? She’s the only one you’ve pissed off. Who else could it be?!" Vincent Holt reasoned nonsensically.
"I’m telling you, you’re just too nice. The nicer you are, the more she’ll see you as an easy target! Otherwise, why do you think she doesn’t dare to mess with me?"
Vincent Holt said smugly, "I’m fighting her to the bitter end, collecting and spreading dirt on her everywhere. After all this time, has she even dared to make a peep?"
Suddenly, the sound of a soda can clattering across the ground echoed in the dark.
Vincent Holt’s eyes instinctively followed the can. The next second, everything went black.
A burlap sack dropped over his head, blinding him and trapping his arms, leaving him completely defenseless.
By the time he finally ripped the sack off, he was completely alone.
Vincent Holt was absolutely furious. "Dammit, who was that?! Who the hell just hit me?! You bastard, show yourself!"
His whole body ached, especially his face, which felt like it had been punched several times. It throbbed with a fiery pain; he didn’t need a mirror to know it was already swelling up.
His phone had fallen to the ground, but surprisingly, the call was still connected.
"Are you okay?" Chloe Dave asked hesitantly.
Vincent Holt screamed, "Bastard! Bastard! You son of a bitch! Just wait until I find you, I’ll kill you! Right, the cameras! I’m checking the security footage!"
"It’s no use," Chloe Dave sighed. "Whoever did it specifically chose a blind spot in the camera coverage. You won’t find anything."
He hissed softly as he spoke. The corner of his mouth was split, and it really stung.
Vincent Holt refused to accept it. He’d never been so humiliated—getting beaten up for no reason without even catching a glimpse of his attacker.
But even after checking all the footage, he still came up with nothing.
"It has to be Jane Lancaster!" Vincent Holt said with absolute certainty. "I just sicced Adrian Lancaster’s fans on her. This has to be her revenge! No way. I’m not taking a beating for nothing. I have to tell my cousin!"
Caleb Lowell was shocked when he got the call from Vincent Holt.
Someone had actually attacked Chloe Dave and Vincent Holt. This was going too far!
’In broad daylight... wait, that’s not right... Still, is there no law and order anymore?!’
"You say Jay did it. Do you have any proof?" he asked in a low voice.
Vincent Holt retorted, "It was definitely her! I’m going to the Lancaster family’s home tomorrow to demand an explanation!"
Caleb Lowell’s voice was grim. "Don’t make baseless accusations. Jay isn’t that kind of person."
Vincent Holt argued, "Zion, be honest. Do you really think she isn’t capable of this? I’ve seen that video. Look at how practiced she is when she fights!"
Caleb Lowell’s expression turned serious. "What video? Where did you get it?"
Realizing his slip of the tongue, Vincent Holt hastily hung up.
Caleb Lowell grew anxious. He grabbed his car keys and rushed downstairs, intending to find Vincent Holt.
He couldn’t let that video get out. He had to stop it.
In his haste, he didn’t notice the car coming from the side until someone shoved him out of the way.
The screech of emergency brakes tore through the air.
