Everyone Can Hear My Thoughts, and Now They're Panicking
Chapter 276: The Lowell Group is Finally Going Bankrupt
The immense joy of being saved amidst such extreme fear and terror struck him, causing his heart, which had nearly stopped, to beat once more.
Through all these years, only Luna Morgan had ever made him feel this way. Who else could it be but her?
But as for the face of his enemy, he remembered one very clearly. He had rehearsed it in his mind for years, never daring to forget. It was seared into his very soul.
Jane. Lancaster.
He mouthed the name, syllable by syllable, a tidal wave of hatred surging within him.
She had such an ethereally beautiful face, yet she had wantonly hurt and bullied him. Even as a child, she was a demon through and through.
When he saw her picture in the news three years ago, he recognized that face instantly. After all, she hadn’t changed much from when she was a child; it was as if she’d just been scaled up.
The moment he heard she had woken up, he began to set his plan for revenge in motion.
Meeting Luna Morgan again was an accident. But Jane’s repeated cruelty toward Luna trampled on the last of his patience.
This made it impossible for him to let her go. He would make her taste the bitterness of utter ruin, a life worse than death.
Now, it was time to close the net.
—
When Jane Lancaster returned home, she found Butler Forbes peering out from the main gate.
He clearly hadn’t told Timothy Lancaster about her sneaking out in the middle of the night. At the breakfast table, Timothy even consoled her, telling her not to dwell on what had happened yesterday.
With Adrian Lancaster still lying in the hospital, Timothy Lancaster obviously had a lot on his mind. He didn’t ask her to go to the company today.
Instead, he strongly urged her to go out and clear her head, lest some "senile old fool" from the family showed up at their door again.
"Dad, I still have to go to school," Jane Lancaster said.
Timothy Lancaster paused for a moment before it clicked. "Oh, right, right! Go to school, school is good! I’ll have the driver take you."
Jane Lancaster attended classes for two days.
She could feel it in the air—the calm before the storm.
Sure enough, just as she reached the school gate after class that day, she saw several girls standing a short distance away, shooting frequent glances at her.
Jane Lancaster didn’t break her stride. The girls grew anxious, hurried to catch up, and started tailing her.
Jane Lancaster stopped abruptly and turned around. "If you have something to say, say it quickly. I’m going home."
"You’re Adrian’s sister?" the lead girl finally spoke up.
Seeing Jane Lancaster remain silent, the girl suddenly became agitated. "How could you be so vicious? You wouldn’t even spare your own brother! He had just joyfully announced to the world that he had a sister, and that very night, you nearly got him killed!"
Jane Lancaster asked calmly, "How did I get him killed?"
Hearing this, the other girls fumed. ’Wow, she’s not even admitting it!’
The crowd instantly erupted in a fury of righteous indignation.
"Adrian never relied on his family after his debut, and he never used his rich-boy status for hype! Everything he has now, he earned through his own hard work. With such a good reputation, why would anyone want to poison him? You’re the one who brought this disaster on him!"
"I can’t believe you. Why did you have to push Quincy Usher? It’s not easy for a D-list celebrity! You ruined his career, no wonder someone resorted to poisoning."
"Adrian basically took the fall for you! A staff member on set revealed that the bottle of water was originally for you. You didn’t drink it and gave it to Adrian instead, and that’s how he got hurt!"
"Why weren’t you the one who was poisoned? Just go die!"
Someone suddenly threw a cup of milk tea at her.
Jane Lancaster had been anticipating such a move and quickly stepped back to dodge the attack.
"Watch out!" An arm shot out from the side, blocking the projectile. The cup of milk tea hit a body, its contents spewing out before hitting the ground with a SPLAT, splashing everywhere.
Caleb Lowell, who had blocked the milk tea, took the brunt of it. His arm and the side of his body were soaked, and the girls standing nearby didn’t escape unscathed either.
The scene dissolved into a cacophony of shrieks and complaints.
Having dodged quickly, Jane Lancaster was the least affected.
’Who gave you permission to pull a kamikaze attack like that? Take 800 damage just to deal a measly 8 to the enemy?’ She was stunned.
Caleb Lowell glanced at her and saw that, indeed, only a few stray drops had splattered onto her clothes.
He looked at his own soiled suit jacket, his expression darker than Yama’s. "Who threw that?"
The girl who had thrown the milk tea was frightened too. "I-I’m sorry."
This man clearly wasn’t someone to be trifled with; of course she was scared.
Caleb Lowell suppressed his anger. "I’ll let this slide today. But if you dare corner her at school again, don’t blame me for what happens next."
He turned and grabbed Jane Lancaster’s wrist. "Jay, let’s go."
The lead girl was still unwilling to back down. "She hurt our Adrian! Aren’t we even allowed to demand an explanation?"
Caleb Lowell paused. "The real poisoner has already been caught. She hasn’t broken any laws. You, on the other hand... The school’s security office is right up ahead. Would you like to pay it a visit?"
The girl was intimidated by his fierce glare and took a few steps back, saying no more.
Caleb Lowell dragged Jane Lancaster forward again. His car was parked by the side of the road.
Jane Lancaster kept trying to pull her hand away, but she failed several times.
’Seriously, what is he doing? The milk tea from his jacket is about to drip all over me.’
Hearing this thought, Caleb Lowell froze. The hot-blooded rush he’d felt moments ago suddenly turned cold.
When he saw her surrounded, he had been genuinely worried, afraid she was pitiful and helpless.
But in reality, she was cunning and a master of disguise. She had easily avoided the milk tea, and not only that, she was inwardly disgusted with him.
There was no so-called understanding or gratitude, only cold selfishness and impatience.
Just then, his phone rang. Caleb Lowell took the opportunity to release her wrist and answered the call.
A minute later, his expression changed.
Jane Lancaster read his expression. "What happened?"
Caleb Lowell closed his eyes, composing himself. "Jay, I have an emergency at the company. I’ll have the driver take you home first."
It wasn’t safe for her to be out right now. Rumors were spreading like wildfire through Adrian’s fan clubs, which was what led these extremist fans to her in the first place.
He shrugged off his suit jacket, tossed it to his assistant beside him, and pulled open the car door, about to ask Jane Lancaster to get in.
Then, he heard a few lines of her thoughts from behind him.
’Looks like his company is in a major crisis.’
’The Lowell Group is finally going bankrupt. The ticking time bomb has finally gone off. The losses this time are far more severe than that Veridian incident.’
’I’d better not go with him and get caught up in his bad luck.’
"No, thank you. My driver is coming to get me soon," Jane Lancaster said.
Caleb Lowell didn’t turn back. His hand on the car door slowly tightened. ’So, she knew all along that his company was going to face a crisis this time?’
A sharp pain pierced his heart, wrapped in cold fury.
This crisis threatened the very survival of The Lowell Group. It was on a completely different scale from the Veridian incident.
If The Lowell Family went bankrupt, he would be plunged into a bottomless abyss, shattered to pieces.
’Even so, is she just going to stand by and watch, completely indifferent?’
’Is this really the Jane Lancaster he knew? When did she become so cold-blooded and selfish? Or... has she been like this from the very beginning?’
"Fine. Goodbye, then," he said after a moment, his voice steady. He opened the car door and got in.
Jane Lancaster glanced at the character’s favorability rating. Tsk. It was still stubbornly hanging on at 1%.
But not for long.
