Eternal Life by Nurturing Monsters and Plants
Chapter 128 - 124: Human Soul
Chapter 128: Chapter 124: Human Soul
"Extract the soul into the pupil, use the thousand silks as a furnace, use Spiritual Qi as fuel, and forge the soul into medicine."
Li Changsheng murmured, "Forging the soul into medicine..."
He suddenly recalled what Tan Hu had said: how could a mortal ever compare to a beast brimming with spirituality.
But no matter how potent a Spirit Beast’s spirituality, there was one thing in which they could never surpass mortals: humans are born with naturally strong souls...
"Cyan Yang... heh."
Li Changsheng gave a soft chuckle, then picked up the jade box and jade jar and moved to the next spot.
He repeated the same motions, planting one Thousand Silk Pupil after another, watching them sway in the breeze.
Regardless of his inner resistance, he had to plant the Thousand Silk Pupils.
As a Spirit Plant Master, he wouldn’t suffer any dire consequences if he refused to plant them, but he would likely be stuck tending Spirit Fields for the rest of his life.
’How could an outlier ever be trusted by others?’
Perhaps Lan Cai Shen had considered this, giving him two normal Spirit Plants and one Demonic Spirit Plant.
Time ticked by.
By the time night fell, the entire Spirit Field was filled with Thousand Silk Pupils.
Without a second glance, Li Changsheng left a hundred spirit insects to watch over the Spirit Field. He then hopped onto Xiaohua’s back, lay down, pillowed his head on his hands, and gazed up at the twinkling stars.
He suddenly felt a pang of homesickness.
’I wonder if Mom and Dad are still healthy... and if my little brother and sister are behaving...’
After he had gone.
A gentle breeze swept through. The thumb-sized, ghastly white eyeballs swayed relentlessly. The blue veins at the edges of their pupils bulged and throbbed as if straining to open, but the sealed lids remained perfectly still, showing no sign of parting.
「Back at the small courtyard.」
Li Changsheng went straight into the kitchen.
Smoke began to rise from the chimney, and the crisp sound of chopping vegetables drifted into the courtyard.
The sound of the Bone-Chopping Knife striking the cutting board was much heavier than usual.
Two hours later.
OINK OINK...
Xiaohua and her family had their heads down in the feeding trough, gobbling up their food.
The Tusked Piglet ran around the courtyard nonstop, occasionally rooting at the ground or nudging the stinky sock tree, squealing wildly all the while.
Li Changsheng sat on a bench by the door, shoveling the Spirit Rice and other food from his bowl into his mouth.
Xiaobai lay off to the side, holding a spirit snake and munching on it as happily as if it were a spicy jerky stick.
That night, Li Changsheng neither cultivated nor went back inside his house.
He took out a lounge chair and placed it in the doorway of the wooden cabin, slowly falling asleep to the lively sounds around him.
「The next day.」
Warm sunlight spilled down, bathing the mountain forest in a brilliant golden hue.
Atop the mountain on Ten Thousand Snake Lake Island, there was a small courtyard at its center.
In the doorway of a three-story wooden building, a young man lay on a lounge chair. He had a turquoise Three-leaf Mark between his eyebrows and faint lines on his cheeks. Curled up on his chest was a white fox as large as a mongrel dog.
A moment later.
The young man’s eyelids twitched, and he opened his eyes.
Li Changsheng smiled as he looked at Xiaobai, who was curled up on his chest and sleeping soundly, using its fluffy tail as a pillow. He carefully lifted the fox, placed it on the chair, and then slowly stretched.
A cool breeze carrying the dampness of the mountain forest swept by, leaving him feeling refreshed and invigorated.
After a few simple stretches, he strode into the kitchen.
As smoke began to rise, the crisp sound of chopping vegetables once again filled the air.
Lying on the lounge chair, Xiaobai opened its narrow eyes and glanced toward the kitchen. It gave a lazy stretch, rolled over to expose its belly, and went back to snoring soundly.
Xiaohua and her family also got up, ambled around the courtyard once, and then plopped down again by the door.
Little Xiaohua, however, ran over and lay down just outside the kitchen.
The squealing piglet would dart back and forth, occasionally running to its mother Xiaohua’s side to snort a few times before taking off again—a true little rascal.
From the pen, the continuous bleating of snow goats could be heard.
It felt like a small farmstead, bustling with the sights and sounds of life.
Two hours later.
Li Changsheng rode Xiaohua out of the courtyard, heading toward the High-grade Spirit Field.
As Xiaohua’s heavy footsteps drew near, the surface of the dark, deep pool rippled slightly before the pool slowly vanished from sight.
Arriving at the edge of the Spirit Field, Li Changsheng dismounted. He took out a jade box inscribed with several runes and a jade jar that radiated waves of cold air.
He circulated his Spiritual Power to open the box, and a bone-chilling cold blasted him in the face. Inside the frost-covered box were several azure spirit seeds.
Li Changsheng’s expression flickered as he felt a piercing cold in his palm, and he quickly wrapped his hand in Spiritual Power.
’Worthy of a Tier Two Top-grade Spirit Species,’ Li Changsheng thought, shaking his head as he stepped into the Spirit Field.
After digging a hole, he opened the jade jar, and a white, frosty vapor billowed out.
Following the instructions on the jade slip, Li Changsheng painstakingly pried a frost-covered spirit seed from the box and placed it in the hole.
Then, he tilted the jar, and an ice-blue liquid radiating a biting chill poured out onto the frosty seed.
HSSS...
Under the liquid, the frost melted like snow, slowly seeping into the spirit seed.
Once the frost on the seed had completely vanished and its surface began to shimmer with an ice-blue spiritual light, Li Changsheng set the box and jar aside.
He pressed his palm to the Spirit Field, a jade-green light shimmering in its center.
For a fleeting moment, Li Changsheng’s mind went blank, and an image of icy blue filled his consciousness.
Before he could examine it closely, a crisp sound echoed in his mind.
CRACK...
The icy blue in his mind’s eye began to spread wildly in all directions.
Li Changsheng knew this was bad. ’If I let this icy blue spread completely, the Cold Flame Flower seed will die before it even has a chance to sprout.’
With a mere thought, a great surge of life force erupted from his palm, rapidly closing in to surround the spreading blue.
After a full Cup of Tea’s Time, the life force had compressed the icy blue on the internal network map into a single mass.
This continued for another dozen breaths.
The icy blue slowly condensed into a point of light, and delicate, fragile, ice-blue tendrils began to extend from it, seeking to form a network.
Li Changsheng dared not be careless. He directed the life force to envelop each and every root tendril, only cutting off the supply once they had established a connection with the Spiritual Vortex.
