Entwined by Dawn: The CEO's Relentless Obsession
Chapter 1394 - 1395: Ambush 9
Watching Mu Tiantian slowly come to her senses, Shen Tiancheng took out his pistol while screwing on the silencer.
"You’re not stupid, at least."
Tian Tian: "..."
Tian Tian’s expression gradually turned serious.
Shen Tiancheng glanced at Tian Tian, gun in one hand, and reached out to take Her hand with the other.
"It must have gone back to report, then get ready to besiege us. Wolves are pack animals. That wolf kept holding back without attacking, clearly it was observing."
Shen Tiancheng didn’t tell Tian Tian that the wolf had practically watched over them most of the night; it showed up almost two hours after Tian Tian went missing.
Based on Shen Tiancheng’s experience, the wolf pack’s den had to be far from where they were, and this one wolf was out hunting alone. But seeing the two of them together, plus a campfire burning, it didn’t dare attack rashly.
In the end, after hesitating over and over, it decided to go back and bring reinforcements, planning to turn them straight into a meal later.
Listening to Shen Tiancheng, Tian Tian’s expression grew even more alert.
Seeing that, Shen Tiancheng couldn’t help letting out a soft chuckle.
"Don’t worry, they’re definitely not close. Even if they run fast, we’ll pick up our pace. They’ll chase all the way along our scent trail, and we’ll still have time to set traps."
Tian Tian: "..."
Things turned out just like Shen Tiancheng said. After that wolf left, it stayed very quiet around them.
Tian Tian and Shen Tiancheng left the cave and kept hurrying forward.
But after less than half an hour of walking, Shen Tiancheng suddenly stopped.
"Perfect, there’s a ready-made pit right here."
Tian Tian suddenly halted, looked carefully ahead, and only then noticed that within the dense clump of grass there was a huge pit whose bottom she couldn’t see.
She could even faintly make out slender sharpened bamboo stakes.
"Wait for me."
Shen Tiancheng let go of Tian Tian’s hand and started setting things up quickly.
He pulled out his military dagger; his movements were incredibly fast and skilled, like he’d done this countless times before.
In less than ten minutes, a perfect trap was in place. If she hadn’t seen it with her own eyes, Tian Tian would never have noticed that less than half a meter from her feet there was a trap that could easily kill her.
After wiping away all traces, Shen Tiancheng walked back to Tian Tian’s side, took Her hand again, and leaned them both against the trunk of a nearby big tree.
Tian Tian’s eyes flickered; she seemed to catch Shen Tiancheng’s intent.
They were anxious to keep moving, but if they didn’t deal with that wolf pack behind them, they’d be in constant danger.
After less than twenty minutes of waiting, Tian Tian noticed that the forest, where there had been faint noises before, suddenly turned unnaturally quiet.
Like the tense stillness before a storm, the silence was terrifying.
Earlier she could occasionally hear snow eagles beating their wings or cutting through the woods overhead; now, the only thing she could hear was her own heartbeat, each thud faster than the last.
Her hand, held in Shen Tiancheng’s, tightened involuntarily.
On Shen Tiancheng’s delicate, androgynously handsome face, there was still a faint, lazy smile, and he even kept talking to Her unhurriedly. But those long, narrow phoenix eyes were filled with frost, as if he were quietly waiting for something.
Though Tian Tian was anxious and afraid, she still followed his lead and kept the conversation going.
"What did you say?"
Shen Tiancheng gave a soft laugh and turned his head slightly; his slanted brows and eyes, half-hidden in the dim light, looked sinfully seductive.
"I said... if we make it out alive, I’m definitely going to hold you."
