Chapter 1555: Blood from the Neck (Part 2)
If any monster from the Frost Ridge had been in Vaarh’s place, it would have been dead long ago from Alexia’s attacks.
When she used her second Evolution Vein ability, she briefly became a deadly fighter who not only controlled frost but made it a part of herself.
Alexia realized that Vaarh could block her attacks indefinitely, so she had no choice but to gather all the remaining power of this ability and make a dash forward.
Tremble. Tremble. Tremble.
The surface shook as a bright blue flash hurtled toward Vaarh at tremendous speed.
"Your last attack?"
His powerful voice boomed across the battlefield as he swung his spear in front of him.
"Show me what you’re capable of! This is the best you can do before you meet your death!"
He was still convinced that Adam and Alexia’s defeat was predetermined, that it was inevitable.
Few things could anger Alexia more than this.
"In that case, enough talk and take my strike!" She exclaimed as she crashed into Vaarh like a comet.
Tremble. Tremble. Tremble.
The iron spear trembled, even Vaarh’s grip couldn’t hold the spear steady in such a situation.
The frost energy wave spread out in all directions from Alexia as she was determined to inflict as much damage on Vaarh as possible.
Step.
Alexia stepped forward as all the energy momentum crashed into Vaarh.
’NO!’ He cried internally as the icy blast reflected in his wide eyes.
A thick layer of ice covered his chest and hands as the force knocked his spear out of his hands, basically leaving him unarmed for the moment.
"Agh... Agh... Agh..."
Alexia found herself on the other side, her breathing heavy.
She glanced over her shoulder, while the ice covering her hand and feet fell apart.
Twitch. Twitch. Twitch.
Vaarh’s fingers twitched, he was about to free himself from the icy captivity. He was able to protect himself from injury, but Alexia’s ice still had a direct effect on him, preventing him from moving freely.
This was the moment Alexia had spoken of at the very beginning, and Adam was not going to miss it.
The white needle was in his hands as, in the next moment, a path was laid between him and Vaarh.
It was the fastest attack Adam was capable of. Moreover, since his goal was not to kill Vaarh but just to wound him to get his blood, Adam created his path much faster than usual.
Thus, even if Vaarh had not been frozen and had known about Adam’s ability, he still would not have been able to react in time.
Until that day, Adam had never needed to use his path just to wound someone, but now was the best opportunity for it.
"Agh...?" Vaarh’s eyes widened in confusion.
All he saw was a white light rushing straight at him. Then, Adam appeared in front of him with the long blade of his needle.
Crack. Crack. Crack.
Even in such a situation, Vaarh managed to break the ice and tilt his torso to the side so that the blade would not cut off his head.
He did not know that Adam’s goal was something else.
THRUST!
A wave of pain washed over Vaarh as genuine shock reflected on his face.
He watched as Adam, like a wild beast, sank his fangs right into his neck. Blood full of ancient energy gushed out, drops covering Adam’s face as he clenched his jaws tighter.
Vaarh didn’t know what Adam was doing, but he couldn’t let the wound get any worse. He raised his hand, his iron claws ready to tear Adam to pieces.
But Adam was faster.
Crackle!
With a distinct crunch, Adam tore a chunk of flesh from Vaarh’s neck as the path continued, carrying him dozens of meters forward.
Vaarh cut only air.
Drip. Drip. Drip.
The crimson drops dripped from the corners of Adam’s mouth as he spat out the chunk of flesh, filling his mouth with a horrible taste.
Blood flooded the snow around him, and his wild actions caused the monsters standing in the distance to be alert and move even further away. They did not want to test what this Phantom was capable of.
Obviously, Vaarh himself was the most surprised.
He couldn’t understand why Adam had done this.
’Was it an attempt to kill me?’ Vaarh thought. ’No, it’s something else. He was aiming for my neck. That was their original plan, for some reason, he wanted my blood. For that, he was willing to behave like a wild beast...’
Vaarh blinked as he noticed something.
He saw the gleam in Adam’s eyes and the beginning of a smile. He knew that expression well, for he had been through it many times himself.
When the realization struck Vaarh, he jumped back as his fingers twitched. The iron spear stuck in the ground after the fall trembled and returned to his grasp, raising waves of snow in its path.
He swung his spear, being in full combat readiness.
’So my blood was his condition to evolve? Damned Phantoms! They’re willing to use anything and anyone to become stronger!’
Vaarh knew that Alexia had evolved before their fight began. He was willing to make that sacrifice so that the barrier would fall. But he had no plans to let Adam become stronger as well.
He saw him as a greater threat than Alexia, just by his pure instincts.
"Huh! Now you’re finished, you arrogant bastard!" Alexia exclaimed joyfully, pointing at Vaarh.
She knew that in a few more seconds, a powerful stream of energy would burst out of Adam, just as it had happened to her when she absorbed the Ancient Frost.
"Hmm?" Alexia tilted her head in confusion.
For some reason, even after half a minute, nothing happened.
Slowly, Adam turned to her as her eyes widened.
Instead of joy, his face showed only confusion and incomprehension. He had absorbed Vaarh’s blood, but the Path Construct did not react in any way. His aura did not even flicker.
Then all three of them realized one simple thing:
The Blood of God had never been Adam’s condition at the Frost Oasis.
