Endless Evolution: Last Star

Chapter 1556: Two of Three

Chapter 1556: Two of Three

The Winding Fragments.

This was the way the Phantoms could find out where their conditions for the Third Grand Star were.

Adam and Alexia were no exception to this rule and successfully took advantage of it. They went on a mission together because one of the Winding Fragments told them that the conditions for the Third Grand Star were in that location.

But...

The Winding Fragments never said what conditions they would be able to fulfill at the Frost Oasis.

All the Winding Fragments showed them where the treasure chest was located, but provided no information about what the treasure actually was.

Sure, when they saw the layers of ice and snow-capped mountain peaks, they assumed that the Ancient Frost was located right here.

Knowing that they were going to the Primal Lands and that a formidable enemy awaited them at the end of the Frost Oasis, Adam convinced himself that this was where he would obtain the Blood of God.

The only thing he could think of was that it was the blood of some ancient and powerful monster. This description was perfect for the monsters of the Primal Lands and Vaarh as well. He had definitely lived in this world for a long time, had a powerful bloodline, and was strong.

However, from the very beginning, Adam was looking for something that was never here.

Thump. Thump. Thump.

His heart beat rapidly as his pupils narrowed.

Now, Adam understood why, unlike Alexia, who could see where her energy was leading her, there was nothing for him to grasp.

His energy told him that he would find one of the conditions right here, at the Frost Oasis.

Nothing more.

’If my condition was the Blood of God and it was Vaarh’s blood, then the energy should have pointed directly to him, right?’ Adam muttered to himself as he slowly turned his gaze to Vaarh.

Vaarh didn’t know all the details, but Adam’s confused look was enough for him to understand the essence of the situation.

It was a heavy blow for Adam; he felt as if he had betrayed himself.

But the worst was yet to come.

Which of the two remaining conditions was he supposed to receive here if it wasn’t the Blood of God?

The Highest Bliss or Bottomless Void?

Which of the two opposites awaited him here?

Neither he nor Silvana nor anyone else had the answer to that question.

The only thing Adam understood now was that Vaarh was not his target, but this battlefield.

Step.

Vaarh stepped forward, pointing his spear at Adam, but not to attack. His goal was different.

"What happened?"

Alexia frowned. "You think we’re going to answer your questions, you bastard?!"

However, Adam raised his hand, stopping her.

"Alexia, as strange as it may sound, but I’ll answer his question."

"W-WHAT?!" She protested.

Adam took a deep breath.

"He did it first, so we’ll just return the favor."

With a short nod, Adam brushed the blood from his mouth and looked at Vaarh.

"Your blood was supposed to make me stronger. I believed that. We came here to become stronger. Alexia found her condition, and I thought that you, or rather your blood, was my condition."

Vaarh’s expression remained calm.

"Apparently, you were sure of that. There were many reasons to think so, weren’t there?"

Adam nodded.

"Yeah, everything except for one detail was perfect."

"And now?"

In response, Adam shrugged and smiled bitterly.

"Now, I don’t fucking know what to do."

Vaarh didn’t mock him or joke around. He just nodded, accepting the situation as it was.

"I see. I can’t say I’ve ever been in the same situation, but failures should never stop you. As long as you haven’t lost to yourself, you still have a chance of success."

"Huh," Adam chuckled darkly. "Don’t you think it’s inappropriate to give such advice after you said you would kill us and that nothing can change that?"

However, Vaarh’s expression showed that he disagreed with Adam.

"Sure, this advice doesn’t matter to you. Your death is already a foregone conclusion. But by giving you advice at the right moment now, I won’t forget to do so later, in another situation, when it will matter."

"Tsk!" Alexia snorted. "I’m sick of this pragmatism and kindness. Don’t you have a drop of bloodlust in you?!"

Vaarh turned to her abruptly. For a moment, coldness covered his face, something deep in his eyes frightened Alexia, but soon everything returned to normal.

"I have the will to fight and win, just like you. Without it, I would have died long ago, many years ago."

His voice grew deeper.

"I will keep my word and give you a worthy battle. Not only out of respect for the sacrifice you will make for my power, but also for myself. I must remember what it feels like to win again if I want to return to the top."

In the next moment, gray streams of wind swirled around Vaarh as a powerful gust lifted him high into the air.

Without wings or energy, following the wind, Vaarh rose hundreds of meters upward.

Alexia covered her eyes with her hands from the gusts of wind.

When she opened her eyes, she saw Vaarh soaring high above the snow-capped mountains, and the sky above him began to darken, filling with gloomy clouds.

All this was happening at his will and because of his energy.

He was the lord of these lands, both in terms of power and title, and he was going to prove it.

"What is he going to do...?" Alexia’s voice trembled as she looked around.

The monsters that had been striving to get into the abyss were now trying to get as far away from the battlefield as possible. They did not want to get in Vaarh’s way, which meant they did not want to get close to Adam and Alexia, who were his opponents.

They had all seen what had happened to the ice worm.

Crack. Crack. Crack.

White electrical discharges ran through the dark clouds as the first spark touched his spear, filling it with the power of the storm.

As before, Vaarh’s strike would be precise, and Adam and Alexia had almost no time to do anything about it.
