Endless Debt

Chapter 1550 - 82: Preparation for War

  • Next Chapter

Eternal Night Prison, or maybe... Land of Eternal Night.

Speaking of this distant homeland, Seredon’s mood was complex with time. He was one of the few present, and in the entire earthly world, who understood the Land of Eternal Night best. It was he who personally buried his father, the Night King, and the remnants of the Night Race into that dark place.

"Olivia made a mistake, which created the Regent King. Afterward, the Regent King, over long years, found the road to the Land of Eternal Night and met with the Night King, gaining the opportunity for second blood donation."

Bologue spoke while looking at Serey, "This means that now the bloodline purity of the Regent King should be at the same tier as yours. More importantly, his Alchemy Matrix is far younger than yours."

Serey scoffed lightly. Even though he had fallen into such a state, deep down, he still possessed the unique pride of a Night Race Lord, even if his domain was long gone.

"More crucially, the Regent King received direct support from the Night King. He must have considered the Land of Eternal Night as his stronghold. The Rebellious Royal Court was established there, so... York is very likely there."

"Does this mean a new round of war is about to start?" Serey lay bonelessly on the sofa, with a face of indifference, "Yet another Dawn War, completely destroying the Night Race?"

"We need you, Serey," Bologue said proactively, "You personally imprisoned them; you know the location of the Land of Eternal Night and the method to enter, don’t you?"

Serey refused without hesitation, "I am retired, Bologue, do you understand what retirement means?"

He raised his hands, showing Bologue their front and back, "Look at them. After so many years of leisure, the calluses on my hands have worn away."

Serey sighed, "I can no longer wield a sword. Even if I had the strength, I lack the resolute heart of those days."

Bologue fell silent. He realized that this request would indeed put Serey in a difficult position.

Thinking of his ridiculous and laughable appearance, Bologue found it truly hard to connect the current him with the legendary figure throughout the Dawn War.

"Night King."

Nesanel suddenly spoke, gazing directly at Serey, "When was the last time you saw your father?"

"Roughly a hundred years ago? During the reckoning after the Dawn War, I personally imprisoned him in the Land of Eternal Night," Serey replied immediately, "Since then, I haven’t seen him."

Nesanel said, "So, you’re not sure what your father is like now?"

"What else could he be like? Anyway, he’s an Undead. Wasting away time anywhere is the same." Serey wanted to end the topic quickly; he didn’t want to discuss the past, not a single bit.

Nesanel calmly stated, "Oh... I saw your father in the Land of Secrets, Serey."

Serey froze for a moment and then sat up excitedly, "Impossible! He was bound in the Land of Eternal Night; I personally checked those chains!"

"Don’t be nervous; I didn’t see him in the Material Realm," Nesanel said, "In the Ethereal Realm, during a battle in the Land of Secrets, I was swept into the Ethereal Realm, and it was there that I met the Night King who traveled between the two realms."

Serey’s expression became stunned; from those scarlet eyes, Bologue sensed a hint of fear; Serey was afraid. Afraid of what? Revenge from his father, or something he deliberately hid?

Indeed, whenever Bologue thought he understood Serey enough, he would belatedly realize that he didn’t understand Serey’s past at all—what exactly happened to change Serey’s attitude, leading to drawing swords against his own blood relatives.

"I don’t know if this is good news or bad news for you, but from the confrontation with the Night King, I can be certain..."

Nesanel stared directly into Serey’s eyes, his gaze piercing and unyielding.

"Your father, the Night King, has now transformed into the calamity of this world."

Serey blinked, suspecting he misheard, but then realized—he was an Undead, a Seeker of Glory. In a state of alertness, he could clearly hear the breathing in the adjacent room through the walls, so how could he possibly mishear something like this?

"Obviously, while you were wasting time in the Undying Club, a wave of change is sweeping through the Land of Eternal Night. The new Night Race is stepping onto the stage, poised and ready for a new war."

Nesanel then looked at the weakened Sai Zong, questioning, "Does the Undying Club still intend to remain secluded now?"

Sai Zong was silent.

"You know, Sai Zong, hiding solves nothing. If the Order Bureau cannot win, then the flames of war will sooner or later reach you. But if you choose to help us, everything can be salvaged."

Sai Zong lowered his gaze, and after a long time, a hoarse voice sounded, "To launch a war that breaks tranquility in order to obtain peace?"

In the dead silence, faint sobbing sounds emerged; Bologue looked in disbelief at this scene, Sai Zong bowed his head, and blood tears flowed from his eyes, drip, drip.

"So ironic, everyone, carrying the furious Original Sin, yet yearning for peace."

Sai Zong sighed deeply, "But like all those driven by desire, the more you yearn for peace, the more unattainable it is, leaving you to wander aimlessly in the world, savoring agony."

Nesanel asked, "And your decision is..."

"I need some time to think, Nesanel. Making any decision now requires enormous courage, isn’t that so?"

Sai Zong raised his head, his tears already evaporated by the high temperature of his body, leaving only a shallow mark.

Should the Undying Club choose to participate in the war, it would inevitably awaken the Eyes of Eternal Fury. But if Sai Zong chose to observe all this, he couldn’t ensure whether the Order Bureau could win it all. Even if they won, war would still come; it’s only the distinction between long and short pain.

"Alright."

Nesanel stood up, leaving the room first, and Bologue hesitated for a moment but stood up as well, following him.

Serey sat idly in place, like Sai Zong, lost in deep contemplation.

Outside the corridor, Wei’Er and others waited nervously. Bologue forced a smile and waved to them.

"Don’t worry, everyone, it’s all resolved."

In reality, nothing was resolved at all.

"Would you like something to drink?"

Bode stood behind the bar. Seeing they weren’t planning to leave, he picked up the glasses and started serving.

"Same as usual."

Bologue sat at the bar, and after a while, Olivia also came over, sliding into the seat next to Bologue before Palmer could.

Olivia asked, "What happened inside?"

"Some very complex matters."

"And Serey?"

Bologue joked, "Him? He should be contemplating life’s major issues."

Gently swaying his glass, Bologue suddenly thought of something and asked, "Olivia, you also experienced the Dawn War firsthand, didn’t you?"

"Sort of, why do you ask?"

"Can you tell me about it?" Bologue asked with a pleading tone, "What exactly happened back then?"

Olivia clasped her hands around her glass, her brows furrowing. It’s undeniable that she was Serey’s daughter—they reacted the same when bothered.

"That was a long time ago..."

Olivia began slowly, unlike Serey, who found it easier to kill him than to pry words from his mouth.

"So long that even my memories of that time are a bit hazy."

Olivia reminisced, "According to later historical records, it should have been the beginning of the Dawn War..."
