Endless Debt
Chapter 1549 - 81: Land of Unceasing
After returning from the Land of Secrets, this was Bologue’s first time seeing Nesanel. That said, he had already understood Nesanel’s condition through documentation.
Under the treatment at the Border Sanatorium, Nesanel escaped life-threatening danger, but the deadly soul scars still penetrated his Alchemy Matrix, causing irreversible damage, much like Lebius before him.
Therefore, although Nesanel still possesses the power of a Seeker of Glory, whether he can return to his peak state is entirely unknown. The doctors are uncertain if further healing on the soul scars can occur in subsequent treatments.
Nesanel easily accepted the situation; he has fought for many long years. It’s time for others to take over his position. Although the news hasn’t been announced, Nesanel’s priority in the Decision Room’s battle sequence has been downgraded, replaced by Holt.
However, because Nesanel fortunately survived, his brain wasn’t removed and handed to the Scholars. For this reason, he still holds the deputy director position, albeit turning from fieldwork to desk duties, dealing with the myriad of documents.
Looking at this, Nesanel could totally team up with Lebius and Geoffrey to form a retirement group.
Bologue asked anxiously, "What do you know?"
First, don’t think about retirement matters. If the issues of Sai Zong aren’t handled well, possibly the entire Oath City - Opus could retire... Bologue had seen what the true scorched earth looked like, and in the Undead’s long remaining life, Bologue prayed never to see such a scene again.
"Part of it," Nesanel calmly said, "Sai Zong communicated with the Decision Room before; otherwise, we wouldn’t be comfortable leaving this group of Undead by our side."
Bologue’s impression of Nesanel slightly improved. Besides possessing extraordinary combat ability, Nesanel genuinely knew various secrets and took on the responsibilities of deputy director, balancing these forces.
At this moment, he even had the interest to joke, "If you Undead owe rent to the Undying Club, then the Undying Club owes rent to the Order Bureau."
After the joke, Nesanel’s voice dropped, "What’s the specific situation?"
"I suspect the abnormal source is York," Bologue analyzed, "He disappeared alongside the Original Sin Armament during the Raymond Gaudent incident."
"The holder of the Original Sin Armament? I knew of this news and specially dispatched the fifth team to search, but to no avail thus far."
Regarding the characteristics of Original Sin Armaments, Nesanel and even the entire Sublimation Furnace Core don’t know much, so he allowed York to possess this forbidden weapon alone, cooperating with the Scholars’ research.
But problems just had to occur concerning York.
Upon knowing the incident happened, Nesanel immediately sent out the tracking adept fifth team, Hunter’s Bow, but they couldn’t find any trace of York, as though he vanished into thin air.
"Every Original Sin Armament is a fragment of the Sin of Wrath. They can awaken the power of that fragment through endless slaughter and blood sacrifices, even influencing the Sin of Wrath directly."
Bologue briefly recounted the intelligence he knew, comparing notes with Nesanel, "I suspect York is confined in some arena, undergoing endless slaughter, and his struggles, resistance, will transform into a ceaseless flow of blood, offered to that Devil meant to remain in slumber."
"Why do they want to awaken the Sin of Wrath?"
Nesanel questioned; he only had a rough understanding of the Sin of Wrath, namely Eyes of Eternal Fury: Samuel. This part of intelligence was initially voluntarily disclosed by Sai Zong to the Decision Room to settle in Oath City - Opus.
"Awakening a war-crazed entity, what benefit does it hold for them? Moreover, they could’ve done that earlier."
Nesanel was referring to the origin of Thorny Pain Lock, it originally belonged to the Regent King, but the Regent King seemed uninterested in being affected by the wrath. It may be that his pride made him refuse this frenzy power. The Regent King gave it to York, transforming York into a member of the Night Race, triggering a subsequent series of events.
"It’s simple; their decision-making direction has changed."
A frail voice interjected, Bologue turned his head, seeing the tightly closed door being pushed open a little, revealing a weary eye behind the gap.
"You, Nesanel, and..."
Sai Zong’s gaze lingered among the crowd, finally landing on Serey, "And Serey, come in, I have something to tell you."
Bologue and Nesanel exchanged glances and stepped decisively through the door, while not far behind, Serey seemed a bit puzzled. Even if he was slow, he realized Sai Zong’s peculiarity.
This guy who was often kicked around, very likely was the master of the Undying Club. Much earlier, Serey had implied during a conversation with Bologue that the club’s master could possibly be a Devil.
Reflecting on it all, Serey felt a massive impending trouble looming ahead. For a moment, he even toyed with the idea of leaving the Undying Club, but then thought, should he leave, there wouldn’t be another refuge in the boundless world.
With a long sigh, Serey fastened his pajama buttons, his resigned gaze revealing determination as he followed the duo into this end gate.
The gate closed, tightly.
Behind the door, the room was no longer the prison’s previous appearance. As Sai Zong’s consciousness awoke, it transformed into a dim yet warm chamber, several sofas placed by a cozy fireplace.
Sai Zong sat in the main seat, wrapped in a layer of a warm blanket, the firelight reflecting in his eyes, bestowing an indescribable serene sensation.
The other three gradually sat down, Bologue sinking into the sofa’s softness, reminiscent of his previous experience in Daisy Castle.
The current atmosphere was perfect for storytelling, whether amusing fairy tales or saddening past experiences; it seemed they could all be released here.
Among the three, Serey was the least informed one. He tentatively asked, "So how should I address you, continue to call you Sai Zong, or... the boss?"
"I’m not the boss, just his servant," Sai Zong replied, "Call me Sai Zong."
Serey pursued further, "So... what’s really happening here?"
This time, Sai Zong remained silent for a moment; he seemed to be hesitating whether or not to convey everything, also appearing to be organizing his thoughts—this was indeed a long story.
"Originally, this place wasn’t called the Undying Club."
Sai Zong’s voice carried a slight distortion, like the old radio, recounting a tale from a distant station.
"There were no sweet liquors, no comfortable guest rooms, no joyful times...
Its original name was the Land of Unceasing, a place filled with blood and death’s Land of Reincarnation, where duelists fought from sunrise to sunset, solely to determine the sole champion."
Sai Zong narrated stories from the past to the three, stories Bologue had already heard. His expression unchanged, Nesanel knew most fragmented information; this story merely supplemented the information. Serey listened blankly, for the first time in years realizing what kind of eerie place he lived in, and whom he was really associating with day and night.
"So... as Bologue speculated, they blood-sacrifice to the Original Sin Armament, expanding my power to awaken the true owner of this power."
Sai Zong struggled to suppress his emotions, he hasn’t been so easy to anger for quite a while now, "As for their purposes, it’s simple. The All Secrets Order no longer poses any threat; a new power is needed to stir the situation."
His murky gaze fell on Bologue, Sai Zong said softly, "For the Devils, losing is irrelevant; it’s only... only about not letting you win."
Once the Eyes of Eternal Fury fully awakens, it is certain to arouse a new round of scorched earth rage. Amid such despair and chaos, all conspiracies and schemes will be shattered, leading towards unforeseen developments.
Devils aren’t concerned about these; they cherish chaos over order. Instead, the Order Bureau will miss this rare opportunity, and the world’s destiny will once more become obscure and unpredictable.
"As long as we retrieve that Original Sin Armament, can we stop this?" Nesanel asked.
Sai Zong hesitated a moment, shaking his head, "No, it’s merely a delay. It’s not that war symbolizes wrath, but wrath is the war itself. As confrontations between you and the Devils intensify, more regions will be engulfed in war flame, eventually awakening him from worldly embers..."
"Then it will be indefinitely postponed, after resolving all this, we’ll think of ways to handle him."
Bologue questioned, "Can you sense York’s location? As I’ve promised you before, I’ll recover the Original Sin Armament for you."
Everything started progressing toward a positive direction, Bologue wouldn’t allow anyone to disrupt his pace.
"Location... If they could hide so long under the gaze of the Order Bureau, then there’s only one remaining place."
Suddenly, Serey spoke, who had remained silent, his gaze swept over the others, in a complex tone he stated.
"Eternal Night’s Prison."
