"Am I right, Serey?"

Olivia waved the dagger before Serey, "Does it remind you of something? Those blood relatives you killed? Their terrified faces before they died?

Honestly, Serey, will you dream of them in the days to come? Or, will you dream that you were one of those engulfed in flames?"

The atmosphere became increasingly oppressive, Olivia brazenly vented her resentment, pressuring Serey, whose breathing grew heavier. Just as he was about to collapse under the strain, his gaze suddenly steadied.

"No, I have never dreamed of such things."

Serey shook his head, his tone resolute, "Nor do I ever regret doing those things."

He lifted his head, a faint light flowing in his crimson eyes, "Moreover, I don’t consider myself a betrayer; on the contrary, I believe I am a hero, a hero cutting off Eternal Night."

"The Eternal Night Empire should not exist, nor should this forbidden bloodline continue."

Serey’s tone was unwavering, as if he wanted to engrave these words in his mind as an oath. For a moment, he seemed to truly become the Eternal Night Lord again, avoiding nothing of Olivia’s gaze.

"A hero?"

Olivia chuckled lightly, dismissively, "Then you are truly an unfit hero."

She drew closer to Serey, placing her hand on his chest, her nails sharp as blades, intending to pierce his flesh.

"Since you cut off Eternal Night, why did you let me survive," Olivia did not understand, "and why do you still cling to life?"

Serey remained silent.

"Is it fear?"

Olivia poured out her years of accumulated resentment, "If you’re afraid of your own death, why did you let me live then?"

Olivia was confused; first, she lost her mother, then her familiar blood relatives and homeland. Even after understanding Serey’s actions, she still couldn’t comprehend why Serey spared her. If he spared her, why then...

Why didn’t he love her?

"No need to answer, Serey, I know why."

Olivia’s tone softened; she felt it unnecessary to argue with someone like Serey, who resembled a living corpse, unresponsive no matter how much she assaulted him, only exhausting herself in anger and fatigue.

"You don’t commit suicide simply because you’re a coward, just thinking about that unknowable fate of death terrifies you... Otherwise, you wouldn’t have stood by as my mother departed."

Over the years, Olivia had always controlled herself, trying not to think about those past events, but today, in this face-to-face confrontation with Serey, she could no longer bear it.

"Right, you clearly promised her."

Olivia whispered by Serey’s ear, softly recounting that nightmare-like past.

"She believed you so deeply, yet you deceived her, lingering on until now. You won’t dream of your blood relatives, so will you dream of her?"

Olivia’s voice was like a heavy hammer, cracking Serey’s strong heart, bringing it to the verge of collapse.

At this moment, Serey recalled the past once more, recalling the woman who ran through her life.

"Do you really enjoy this meaningless immortality?"

"Do you still wish to continue this despairing life?"

In the incessant questioning, Serey seemed to return to that day, standing there, looking out at the rising sun.

"How long has it been since I’ve seen a sunrise..."

She turned back, suddenly saying, "It’s a nice moment, Serey, don’t you think?"

Serey remembered nodding stiffly, replying, "Yes."

And then... and then...

"Enough!"

Serey pounded the bar with force, causing the nearby shelves to shake as well. Bode looked at the bar with some distress, remembering it had been him who had hammered it together, decades ago.

"You let me live, not because you love me, but because of her—I am her child, the last trace of her in this world, nothing more."

Olivia spoke calmly, yet inside she felt deeply saddened; through lonely and dark days, she always fantasized she was loved, but later she realized she was merely a tool for Serey’s memory.

"What’s your purpose in finding me," Serey had enough of this damned conversation, "if you want to kill me, just do it."

Olivia gripped the dagger, and for a moment, she truly had the urge to kill, but soon she loosened her hold and put away the deadly blade.

"No, I won’t kill you; on the contrary, now I hope you continue living," Olivia shook her head, "You’re a cowardly scoundrel, you broke your promise to her, yet you love her so much, yearning to keep your promise... You dare not commit suicide, yet wish someone would kill you to help you achieve it."

Olivia laughed, "Serey, you truly are a contradictory bastard."

Serey was rendered speechless by Olivia, as if enduring a prolonged execution, his mind becoming muddled, yearning to lose himself in alcohol.

Wei’Er and Bode watched all this unfold; they did not know much about Serey’s past, but at this moment from Olivia’s words, they could catch glimpses, even seeing in Olivia the shadow of her mother.
