Endless Debt

Chapter 1544 - 78: Awakening

The brawl between Serey and Olivia lasted several minutes. The two appeared to have lost their minds, but in reality, they were quite measured in their actions. There were no overturned tables or bottles, just a purely physical exchange of blows, or rather, Serey was the one being beaten.

After smashing Serey’s beautiful face to a bruise, Olivia then jabbed a few bloody holes into Serey’s body. When the agonizing screams became somewhat disturbing, their fight finally came to a halt.

Bode scrutinized the two of them a few times, then poured two glasses of wine and placed them in front of them, unsure if they had finished fighting or were just taking a break.

Olivia drank the wine in one gulp, her chest heaving violently with uncontrollable emotions. Fortunately, the black veil obscured her expression, preventing her from looking too out of control.

Serey was entirely different. His pajamas were open, his face full of embarrassment, occasionally grimacing from the pain of his injuries.

After the absurd scuffle, both of them fell into a strange silence, the oppressive atmosphere so heavy that it was hard for the onlookers, Wei’Er and Bode, to endure until Serey struggled to break the silence.

Serey looked down at the rapidly healing wound on his abdomen and exclaimed, "That was ruthless."

Olivia snorted coldly. Suddenly, with a clang, she viciously stabbed the dagger into the bar. Intricate patterns crawled along the blade, while blood silently flowed through shallow grooves, painting a bloody hue.

Bode watched this scene with heartache, seeing his well-maintained bar cracked by the dagger, feeling as if a similar stab was made to his heart.

As a true bartender, Serey wasn’t overly concerned with the damage to the bar, but when he saw the dagger clearly, his expression also slipped out of control.

"Bloodthirsty Dagger?" Serey touched his wounds nervously and said, "Are you serious?"

Bloodthirsty Dagger.

Serey was very familiar with this weapon. In the Dawn War, he secretly crafted this deadly blade and used it to slice open the throats of many blood relatives... When everything came to an end, Serey handed it to Olivia and hadn’t seen it since.

Now seeing the weapon again, Serey was swept by an indescribable feeling. Not to mention Olivia’s deep hatred for him, he stood frozen, as memories surged in, and the mountains of corpses and seas of blood seemed to loom near.

"An old friend indeed..."

Serey murmured in a barely audible voice, and for a moment, he felt his fingers twitch, as if yearning to grasp the deadly dagger once more, and then... and then do what?

No one noticed Serey’s sensitive yet subtle reaction. Bode and Wei’Er were busy calming the two’s emotions to prevent a fight from breaking out in the Undying Club.

They once thought this place was a happy abode, but since witnessing the eerie changes of the Undying Club, they understood that this peaceful sanctuary wasn’t as simple as they imagined.

Olivia didn’t care about Serey’s thoughts, asserting viciously, "If I were serious, you’d already be half a dried corpse."

The sound seemed to wake Serey from his unsettling immersion, a trace of panic flickering in his eyes. He stammered in response.

"Oh... I’m genuinely grateful for your mercy then..."

Serey remembered Olivia once sent Bologue to deliver a message: She would pin him to the ground and let the sunlight scorch him to death, a harsh punishment for a Pure-blood Night Race not so easily burned to death.

"Serey..."

A hoarse call inexplicably sounded in his ear, mysteriously reminiscent of that day.

Blood relatives feebly struggled under the blazing sun, their skin scorched, flesh igniting, blood boiling in the heat, vaporizing into vile blood gas.

Muscles carbonized, bones shattered to fragments, he lost mobility, writhing painfully in the firelight like a worm, even their flesh clinging to each other, resembling a mass of viscous bloody sludge, shriveled faces twisted in agony, extreme wails echoing from withered throats.

Serey remembered that day, standing in the shadows, watching coldly, thinking it was the end of everything, never imagining it was actually the beginning of another torment.

"Oh? Did this remind you of something?"

Olivia noticed the change in Serey’s expression, waving the dagger in front of Serey.

"I really dislike you, but I must admit, I quite like this gift. It accompanied me through long times, dealing with one troublesome enemy after another."

Olivia’s tone shifted, her gentle words turning sharp, "I once thought this was the only affection you had for me, but later I realized you gave it to me just to escape those memories, right?"

Olivia seemingly guessed correctly.

Nervously rubbing the wine glass, Serey’s gaze unfocused. He rarely appeared this way, uneasy, like a child separated from their parents.

Serey, son of the Night King, a great Night Race Lord, subverter of the Eternal Night Empire; there seems to be nothing in this world to bind him, nor anything to frighten him. Yet now, in front of his daughter, Serey strangely seemed like a timid child, unsure how to respond.
