Endless Debt
Chapter 1546 - 78: Awakening_3
Serey stood up silently, and Olivia mocked, "What, running away again?"
Serey didn’t know what to say. Suddenly, a violent killing intent emanated from the stairwell, almost materializing into a turbulent, brutal atmosphere that forcefully interrupted this miserable meeting.
Olivia stood up warily, shadows squirming, Dagger held tightly in her hand, while Wei’Er jumped onto Bode’s shoulder, a skeleton and a cat both equally ready for action.
Serey was momentarily stunned. He realized what was happening, cursed softly, and rushed towards the stairwell.
"Wei’Er! Bode!"
Serey shouted anxiously. There were only a few members available to act; he could only hope they would suffice.
Olivia couldn’t comprehend what was happening at all, standing dazedly in place when Serey’s voice rang out again.
"Stay here, don’t move!" Serey advised, "I’ll just assume what you did before was your rebellious phase!"
With that, Serey hurriedly dashed into the stairwell. The familiar hallway lay just ahead, only at the end of this hallway, that eternally unreachable door was violently trembling, as if something inside was repeatedly trying to break through.
Serey breathed deeply and repeatedly to calm himself. The anomaly before him was not the first time it had happened. Roughly a month ago, this strange killing intent had frequently been emanating from behind the door, each surge more intense than the last.
In Serey’s estimation, after a few more releases of this killing intent, the door would no longer be able to restrain whatever was inside... Serey wasn’t clear on what lay beyond the door, nor what would happen once that thing broke free.
Damn, Serey had been with the Undying Club for quite a while, yet he comprehended none of the club’s countless oddities. Just like the previous turmoil unleashed by the awakened Undead, this historic refuge was far more complicated than Serey had imagined, perhaps a hundred times so.
Or perhaps not so complex. Long before, Serey had developed a series of suspicions, just lacking direct evidence to prove it all.
"Sai Zong? Sai Zong"
Serey searched all around. As the oldest among them, Serey was certain Sai Zong knew something. He should also understand the club’s anomalies.
Wei’Er and Bode shook their heads; they hadn’t seen Sai Zong for a while. Just then, a raspy, scraping sound echoed.
At the corridor’s end, the rickety door slowly swung open.
Everyone’s hearts leapt with anxiety, as the Undying Club, once deemed absolutely safe, now teetered in crisis.
Serey swallowed hard as a swaying figure emerged from within. He looked exhausted, covered in wounds, and Serey found him vaguely familiar, realizing the figure was converging with Sai Zong.
Once he had completely emerged, he shut the door behind him firmly, leaned his whole backside against it, and slowly slid down to sit.
The surging killing intent vanished without a trace.
Absolute silence prevailed for a moment. Serey was the first to take a step forward, advancing towards the figure that seemed to be Sai Zong. This time, the hallway no longer stretched endlessly.
This time, after only a few steps, Serey reached the man’s side, confirming his identity.
"What happened?"
Serey asked while attempting to help Sai Zong up.
Sai Zong’s body was burning hot, like a piece of red-hot iron, his voice weak and including an inexplicable sorrow.
"He... he’s about to awaken."
