Chapter 163: The Midnight Infiltration in Tokyo Bay

  • Next Chapter

The dark water three hundred feet below the shipping surface of Tokyo Bay was absolute black, heavy, and motionless, smelling of cold silt, industrial waste, and old salt.

There was no light from the moon, nor any ambient glow from the distant skyline of Chiba.

The entire benthic floor was wrapped in a dense, suffocating silence that stretched across the miles of flat, muddy seabed where the commercial cargo ships dropped their anchors.

Three figures walked along the bottom of the trench as if they were strolling down a paved boulevard in broad daylight.

Renan led the formation, his dark woolen coat replaced by a sleek, form-fitting shroud of condensed abyssal shadow that hugged his broad shoulders and sealed his throat.

His boots stepped lightly over the soft mud, leaving no tracks as the twenty-two thousand three hundred units of core density radiating from his chest effortlessly displaced the crushing ten-atmosphere pressure of the deep water.

Behind him, Shadow Knight Arthur marched with deliberate, heavy strides, his silver-black pauldrons glowing with faint, suppressed argent light, his claymore held horizontally in his right gauntlet.

Sylas glided two feet above the seabed like a dark manta ray, his optical visor sweeping the murky water ahead for acoustic tripwires and military sonar buoys.

"Outer perimeter sensor array at two hundred yards, Sovereign," Sylas whispered, his voice transmitting directly through the encrypted sub-aquatic comms link. "The Japanese Consortium has anchored thirty acoustic buoys along the perimeter of the Chiba dumping zone. Their ping frequency pulses every four seconds."

Renan did not alter his pace. His violet eyes pierced through the dark water, locking onto a series of small, cylindrical steel buoys anchored to concrete blocks fifty yards ahead.

"They are listening for the blade of a propeller or the carbon-fiber hull of a submersible," Renan spoke softly, his voice carrying clearly through the water without disturbing a single particle of silt. "They are not listening for the dead."

As the nearest acoustic buoy emitted its high-frequency green ping, sweeping a narrow cone of sonar energy across the muddy trench, Renan raised his bare right hand.

[Skill Activated: Abyssal Nullification Field] [Target: Active Acoustic Sonar Pulses] [Action: Absorbing Frequency Waves into Sovereign Core]

The green sonar beam struck Renan’s outstretched palm and vanished.

It did not bounce back to the Chiba naval station to trigger an anomaly warning; the acoustic wave was swallowed whole, converted into raw thermal energy that warmed the cold water around Renan’s fingers by a fraction of a degree.

To the naval operators sitting in the warm, brightly lit monitoring bunker three miles inland, the sensor monitors remained completely flat, registering nothing on the tactical grid except the gentle, natural sway of seaweed in the current.

The three figures stepped past the last acoustic buoy, entering the restricted exclusion zone surrounding the submerged titanium silo.

Rising from the flat seabed like a giant monolithic cylinder of reinforced industrial concrete and black steel, the Tokyo Bay Deep-Water Reserve loomed out of the gloom.

It stood three hundred feet tall, its outer walls covered in thick layers of barnacles, iron rust, and protective runic plating designed to shield the internal biological chambers from electromagnetic interference and deep-sea pressure fractures.

Circling the base of the giant silo like a lethal iron collar sat an automated minefield consisting of fifty high-explosive depth charges tethered to magnetic pressure triggers.

Arthur stopped ten paces from the nearest mine, its yellow-painted steel casing glowing faintly under the illumination of a small indicator light.

"A crude perimeter," Arthur grunted, his voice vibrating through the water. "One false step on the mud will detonate forty thousand pounds of high explosives."

"We are not going to step around them," Renan said, his violet pupils flaring with cold, methodical light.

Renan extended both hands toward the ring of fifty mines.

[Skill Activated: Gravimetric Disassembly] [Authority: Tier-4 Continental Hegemon] [Target: 50 Deep-Sea Depth Charges + Magnetic Detonation Triggers] [Action: De-energizing Fuses and Extracting Explosive Compound]

A silent, shimmering wave of silver-violet mana rippled outward from Renan’s palms, washing over the ring of mines in a fraction of a second.

The magnetic triggers did not click. The explosive detonators did not spark.

The high-grade RDX explosive compounds packed inside the fifty steel casings turned into fine, black dust, dissolving into the surrounding sea salt through microscopic gaps in the metal seals.

The fifty empty steel shells dropped limply onto the seabed, their cables snapping with soft, muffled groans as they settled into the soft mud.

Sylas glided forward, reaching the massive primary hatch of the submerged silo located forty feet above the base.

The hatch was forged from eight-inch titanium-tungsten alloy, sealed by a massive electro-hydraulic locking mechanism linked directly to the Tokyo Consortium’s master security network. Across the center of the hatch, a complex digital keypad and an optical retinal scanner glowed with a steady, clinical blue light.

"The entry hatch is locked by a dual-authentication protocol," Sylas reported, his gauntleted fingers hovering an inch from the glass panel. "Requires a physical security card issued to a Consortium board member and a live retinal scan from an authorized facility director."

Renan walked up the smooth concrete ramp of the silo, stopping directly before the blue optical scanner.

He did not possess a security card. He had never met a director of the Japanese Hunter Consortium.

He placed his bare right hand directly over the glass lens of the optical scanner.

[Monarch Authority: Biological & Digital Override] [Target: Tokyo Bay Vault Master Security Terminal] [Action: Forcing Administrative Handshake via Sovereign Core Resonance]

The blue optical light flickered once, turning a deep, solid violet as twenty-two thousand three hundred units of core density flooded the terminal’s circuit boards.

The digital keypad did not display an error message.

Instead of demanding a password, the internal logic gates of the system were overwritten at the quantum level, recognizing Renan’s biological aura not as an unauthorized intrusion, but as the supreme founder and absolute owner of the facility.

CLANG!

The heavy hydraulic locking bolts inside the eight-inch titanium hatch retracted simultaneously with four deep, resonant metallic thuds that vibrated through the water like the tolling of a heavy bell.

With a long, high-pressure hiss of compressed nitrogen gas escaping into the sea, the massive hatch swung slowly inward, revealing a wide, brightly lit vertical access shaft lined with clean stainless steel rungs and emergency submersible lights.

From the deep interior of the submerged silo, a heavy, overwhelming wave of organic mana rushed out into the open water.

It did not smell like the clean, ozone-laced mineral ores of the Zurich vault.

It smelled of ancient, concentrated sea salt, deep-sea blood, and the dense, heavy aura of apex predators that had ruled the oceanic trenches before the first human walked the earth.

Arthur took a deep breath, his silver-black armor humming with bright argent light as his boots touched the threshold of the open access shaft.

"The air inside is dry and pressurized, Sovereign," Arthur noted, drawing his claymore from its scabbard. "And the harvest is waiting below."

Renan stepped across the threshold, his dark shroud of abyssal shadow parting as he entered the vertical access shaft, his leather boots making firm, silent contact with the stainless steel rungs.

"The bankers in Europe hoarded paper and stone," Renan said softly, his voice echoing down the wide metal shaft as he began his descent into the depths of the facility. "The consortium in Japan hoarded bones and teeth. Let us see what they built with our ocean."

Sylas and Arthur followed immediately behind him, their dark silhouettes vanishing down the vertical tube as the eight-inch titanium hatch swung slowly shut behind them, sealing the submerged vault from the black waters of Tokyo Bay.
