The air inside the subterranean basalt vault beneath the Nero Trench was so thick with ozone and molten lead that each breath tasted of copper.

Eighty feet below the ocean floor, the Abyssal Soul Forge hummed with a low, continuous vibration that made the salt crystals clinging to the granite walls shiver into fine dust.

At the center of the cavern, a circular pool of liquid obsidian thirty yards wide bubbled with pale violet fire.

Suspended above the pool by thick chains forged from necrotic star-iron hung the twisted, hollow chassis of twelve American Colossus Mark-IV heavy mechs, their sloped depleted uranium armor plates pitted with railgun craters and scorched by thermal overload.

Renan stood upon the stone catwalk extending over the pool, his dark woolen coat hanging clean over his shoulders.

His twin-chambered Sovereign core beat inside his chest with a slow, heavy cadence, sending pulses of twenty-two thousand units of core density through the obsidian floor tiles.

Beside him, Shadow Colossus Vance stood like a forty-four-foot mountain of dark iridium, his broad helm tilted downward as his internal sensors scanned the structural integrity of the suspended mechs.

"The hydraulic actuators on units four through nine are ruptured beyond conventional repair, Sovereign," Vance’s acoustic speaker clicked, his mechanical voice echoing against the basalt roof. "However, their structural spine frames and heavy leg assemblies contain ninety-four tons of high-grade dwarven star-iron and forged tungsten alloy. If we strip the dead electronics and weld the armor plates directly into the necrotic conduits, their kinetic load capacity will increase by forty percent."

Renan did not draw his void dagger.

He extended his right hand, his fingers spreading over the boiling surface of the shadow pool.

[Skill Activated: Abyssal Soul Forge] [Synthesis Target: Heavy Iron Giants] [Primary Materials: 12 Colossus Mark-IV Chassis + 94 Tons Star-Iron Alloy + 3,000 Unassigned Shadow Souls] [Energy Investment: 2,500 Sovereign Density Units]

"Melt the iron," Renan commanded softly.

The necrotic chains holding the suspended mechs snapped in unison with sharp, metallic clacks.

The twelve sixty-ton war machines plunged into the boiling obsidian pool.

There was no splash of liquid.

The moment the heavy uranium armor touched the black fire, the metal did not warp or melt into chaotic slag; it unraveled into thousands of glowing silver-black threads, separating the pure dwarven star-iron from the burned copper wiring and fried silicon microchips.

The discarded electronics were turned to ash and blown away by the thermal updraft, while the heavy structural iron was drawn downward into the rotating gears of the subterranean forge thirty feet beneath the fluid surface.

RUMBLE!

The basalt floor beneath Renan’s boots trembled as the subterranean hammers struck the liquid iron.

The sound was a rhythmic, thunderous sequence of three heavy strikes followed by the hiss of superheated steam as the necrotic mana was beaten straight into the molecular lattice of the metal.

Ten seconds later, the dark pool ceased bubbling.

SWOOSH!

Fifteen massive shapes broke the surface of the black liquid simultaneously, stepping onto the stone catwalks on either side of the central pool.

Standing thirty feet tall, the newly synthesized constructs did not resemble the sloped, industrial walking tanks designed by the Pentagon.

Their frames were forged from seamless, polished obsidian armor, their chests broad and sloped like ancient executioner breastplates, reinforced with interlocking plates of dark depleted uranium. Their reverse-jointed legs had been replaced with thick, double-articulated steel pillars capable of crushing solid granite beneath their heels.

In their right hands, each giant carried a twelve-foot forged iron tower shield encrusted with necrotic runes, while their left arms terminated in heavy pneumatic hammer fists powered by internal pressure accumulators.

Beneath their narrow visor slits, twin embers of pale argent twilight ignited in perfect unison.

[Synthesis Complete] [New Unit Created: Iron Colossus Giant (Tier-A Heavy Line-Breaker)] [Unit Count: 15 Units Added to Sovereign Legion] [Core Trait: Kinetic Shock Absorption] [Core Trait: Tectonic Wall Alignment]

The fifteen giants lowered their tower shields simultaneously, slamming the three-inch iron bases against the basalt floor with a deafening thunderclap that caused dust to rain from the vault ceiling.

They sank onto their forward right knees, bowing their armored heads before Renan in absolute, silent obedience.

Shadow Knight Arthur stepped out from the shadows of the vault entrance, his silver-black claymore resting across his shoulder as his visor swept over the line of thirty-foot iron warriors.

"A formidable vanguard, Sovereign," Arthur noted, his voice carrying a crisp, martial tone. "With these fifteen giants holding the forward gate at Sector Zero, no infantry brigade or conventional mech division on earth can force a breach through the outer wall."

Renan walked down the stone catwalk, stopping before the lead Iron Colossus Giant.

He reached out, resting his bare palm against the cold, smooth face of the construct’s tower shield.

Through his skin, he could feel the immense, unyielding kinetic density residing within the machine, a perfect marriage of American industrial metallurgy and abyssal necrotic authority.

"They are not for the wall, Arthur," Renan said softly, his violet eyes narrowing with cold, calculating precision.

Arthur raised an eye-ridge beneath his visor. "Sovereign?"

Renan pulled his hand back, looking toward the northern tunnel leading up to the surface docks where Boss Victor was coordinating the black-market shipments.

"Geneva believes that because our ships sit in the Nero Trench, our boots cannot touch their cities," Renan explained, his voice dropping into a quiet, deadly whisper. "They think they can deploy regional hunter guilds to seize our ore shipments in the Alpine tunnels while hiding behind their international borders."

He turned back to face the fifteen towering iron constructs standing in the dim, purple light of the forge.

"Vance," Renan commanded.

"Standing by, Sovereign," the massive shadow general replied, his iridium ram clicking into its neutral housing.

"Take five of the Iron Colossus Giants and board the lower ballast holds of the cargo ship Panagiotis," Renan ordered, his tone carrying the unshakeable weight of a monarch issuing a secret campaign directive. "Conceal their signatures within the necrotic shielding of the hull."

Vance’s argent visor flared with sharp understanding. "We are escorting the grain ship back through the Mediterranean, Sovereign?"

"We are tracking the line," Renan answered, his lips pulling into a faint, predatory curve. "When the Swiss banking consortium sends their hired hunters to seize Captain Nikolaos’s cargo in the Alpine pass, I want five iron giants waiting inside the crates to collect the debt."
