Chapter 87: There Is One Thing.

"Also, you did bring along a few extra bags of grain as well." He reminded him.

Only then did Osborne finally reach out and take the pouch.

He weighed it slightly in his hand.

There were quite a few coins inside.

It wasn’t enough to make him rich, but it was certainly better than having nothing.

Osborne nodded.

Nicholas smiled.

"I’m glad you accepted it." The old man turned his attention back toward the road.

"Although, I really should be thanking you again."

Osborne looked toward him.

Nicholas continued speaking.

"You’ve helped me several times already, even though we’ve only known each other for a short while." He gave a small laugh.

"I honestly don’t know why you keep helping a weak old man like myself."

Osborne remained silent.

Nicholas didn’t seem bothered by it anymore.

By now, he had already realized that the armored knight wasn’t much of a talker.

"I don’t mind if you don’t answer."

Nicholas smiled.

"I’m already more than grateful for everything you’ve done."

The wagon continued along the road.

Nicholas looked toward the road ahead.

"If there’s anything you need, Sir Knight, you only have to ask."

Osborne remained silent for a while.

He looked down at the pouch of coins in his hand.

Then he thought about the town they had just passed through.

There were merchants.

Guilds.

Workers.

Children.

Travelers.

There were also inns and probably other places where someone could stay.

Most importantly, there were people.

A place where he could gather information without drawing too much attention.

But there was something else he needed.

Something he had been putting off ever since leaving the Roosevelt Household.

Osborne slowly raised his head.

Nicholas glanced back at him.

The armored knight remained silent for several seconds before finally speaking.

"There is one thing."

---

Back at the Roosevelt March, within the Roosevelt estate, Roseline sat quietly inside her study while going through several documents that had been placed on her desk earlier that morning.

The room was peaceful, with only the occasional sound of paper moving beneath her fingers and the faint noise of servants walking through the halls outside reaching her ears.

She had been expecting a troublesome day.

After everything that had happened recently, she wouldn’t have been surprised if her husband returned halfway because he couldn’t go any further.

Just thinking about it made her sigh quietly.

For someone she deemed weak, she always felt a bit exhausted when dealing with him.

Osborne had always been troublesome in his own way.

He wasn’t the type of person who constantly caused trouble for the sake of causing trouble, but whenever he decided that something was necessary, he rarely cared whether anyone else agreed with him.

A knock suddenly came from the door.

Roseline lifted her eyes from the document in front of her.

"Come in." The door opened.

Roseline didn’t bother looking up immediately.

"You better not be here to complain again, because I have no intention of changing—" Her voice stopped mid-sentence.

She finally raised her head, because the person standing in the doorway wasn’t Osborne.

It was Silvester.

Roseline’s expression became slightly confused.

"Silvester?"

Silvester entered the room and closed the door behind himself.

Roseline placed the document down.

"Did you come here because of him again?"

Silvester didn’t answer immediately.

Roseline noticed the look on his face.

Something was wrong.

Silvester was normally the type of person who could maintain a relaxed expression even when things became troublesome, and he had a habit of making jokes whenever Roseline became too serious.

That wasn’t the man standing in front of her now.

His expression was unusually dark.

His eyes lacked their usual calmness, and there was a heaviness in his posture that Roseline rarely saw.

Her expression slowly faltered.

"What happened?"

Silvester remained silent.

Roseline’s eyes narrowed slightly.

"Was Osborne too much of a handful?"

She tried to make the question sound casual, but Silvester’s expression didn’t change.

Roseline’s concern grew.

"Silvester."

He finally sighed.

"You’ll need to brace yourself for this one."

Roseline straightened in her chair.

"What is it?"

Silvester walked farther into the room.

For a few seconds, he seemed to be deciding where to begin.

Then he finally spoke.

"Osborne is missing."

Roseline stared at him.

The words seemed almost meaningless at first.

"Missing?"

Silvester nodded.

"I’m afraid he might’ve left..."

Roseline’s brows furrowed.

"Left to go where exactly?"

Silvester didn’t answer immediately. "Forgive me, but I’m not entirely sure myself. Things ended up becoming a bit chaotic during our trip that I—"

"Silvester..." Roseline’s eyes narrowed.

"Explain."

Silvester proceeded to tell her everything.

He explained what he had discovered about Osborne’s changing body and strange abilities, as well as the reasons he had become suspicious of Osborne’s condition.

He also told her about the battle beneath the McClain estate and how Osborne had displayed abilities that were completely abnormal for a human.

Silvester then went further to explain what he believed happened to Osborne.

How he must have chosen to flee rather than return to the Roosevelt estate.

Roseline remained silent throughout the entire explanation.

But Silvester wasn’t finished.

He continued on, and told her about the tunnels beneath the McClain territory.

Explaining how the Baron had been abducting citizens to fuel his demonic ambitions.

Many of the victims were currently believed to be dead, and only a small number had survived.

All thanks to Osborne.

The way he talked made it seem more like he was highlighting the good things he did, as if trying to tell her something.

Eventually, his story came to an end.

"If I hadn’t acted when I did, we might have lost several of our people."

"Fortunately, the young man sent someone to warn me regarding the situation." It seemed even Silvester himself hadn’t been aware of the Baron’s true nature.

Roseline’s fingers slowly tightened against the edge of the desk.

Silvester continued.

"Although I was able to capture some of them alive."

"I’ll be leaving the interrogation to you."

Roseline remained silent. For a long moment, she didn’t move.

But eventually, she finally spoke.

"You’re telling me that Demons were able to breach the kingdom’s defenses undetected?" She asked, her expression serious.
