Demon of the Baron's Family.

Silvester nodded.
"This isn’t a simple matter... If they’ve found a way of bypassing our defenses without being found out, then things could really get dangerous."
Roseline leaned back slightly. While she no doubt trusted Silvester, to her, the thought was absurd.
Roseline stared at him.
"I’ll clarify again. Are you sure you all encountered demons?"
"Yes." Silvester’s expression remained serious.
"I personally killed the Baron after he attacked me."
Roseline’s eyes narrowed.
"The Baron?"
Silvester nodded.
"He had already become a demon."
He let out a pitying breath before adding,
"I killed him myself, along with several others."
Roseline became silent again.
The room felt considerably colder than it had moments ago.
She slowly turned her gaze toward the window.
The McClain family had been a noble family within the kingdom.
While not infamous, as nobles directly underneath her, she knew them to some extent. And while she was aware that they had a shady side, she didn’t think it was shady to this extent.
A noble family had been harboring demons.
That meant the situation could be much larger than they currently understood.
If one noble family had managed to hide something like this, then there was no guarantee that they were the only ones.
Roseline’s expression became cold.
"Guinevere." The door opened almost immediately.
"Yes, my lady?"
Guinevere stepped into the room.
She looked between Roseline and Silvester before quietly waiting for her instructions.
"Gather several people." Roseline’s voice remained calm.
"I want them sent to the McClain Barony immediately."
Guinevere’s expression changed slightly.
"The McClain Barony?"
"Yes."
Roseline looked directly at her.
"I don’t want the news of what happened spreading throughout the kingdom yet."
Guinevere understood immediately.
"If word spreads that a noble family was harboring demons, there will surely be panic spreading amongst the masses."
"Exactly." Roseline stood from her chair.
"We don’t know how many people are involved, and we don’t know how long this operation has been going on."
She walked toward the window.
"If the McClains were able to infiltrate the kingdom without anyone noticing, then we need to assume that there could be others."
Guinevere nodded.
"I understand."
"When choosing people to bring along, make sure they’re people who are able to investigate without drawing attention."
Roseline turned toward her.
"Do not allow any of the local nobles to interfere until we understand what happened."
Guinevere bowed.
"Understood."
She turned around and left the room.
The door closed behind her.
Silvester watched Roseline for a moment.
Then he let out a quiet sigh.
"You’re handling this better than I expected."
Roseline looked at him.
"Would panicking do anything?"
Silvester shrugged slightly.
"I keep forgetting just who you are. Normal people would probably be a little shaken after learning that demons had infiltrated the kingdom." He let out a quiet laugh.
Roseline’s expression remained calm.
"Then most people are not useful in this situation."
Silvester chuckled faintly.
"There she is."
Roseline ignored him.
"We need to get to the bottom of this."
Her voice became more serious.
"If they were able to hide themselves within the kingdom for this long, then we need to be extremely careful from now on."
Silvester nodded.
"That’s what I was thinking." He paused.
Then his expression changed slightly.
"But there’s something else." He said.
Roseline looked at him.
"What?" She asked.
Silvester stared at her for a moment.
"Are you even worried about your missing husband?"
Roseline’s expression immediately became colder.
"What does that have to do with this?"
Silvester sighed.
"For all we know, he’s probably out there, alone, perhaps injured, and let’s not forget his current physical condition."
Roseline crossed her arms. "He’ll return."
Silvester raised an eyebrow.
"You seem so sure." He said.
"That’s because I have a firm reason to be." She said.
"Once he’s done wasting his time, he’ll realize that seeking help himself is futile."
Roseline spoke as though the matter were already decided.
"He’ll eventually return once he understands that wandering around alone will accomplish nothing."
Silvester shook his head lightly.
"You really think he’s going to come back?"
"Yes." Roseline answered without hesitation.
Silvester stared at her.
"What if he dies out there?"
Roseline’s eyes narrowed.
Silvester continued before she could respond.
"With the condition he’s in, I don’t think it would be impossible."
Roseline gave him a sharp look.
"If you think something like that could kill him, then you obviously have no idea who you’re talking about."
Silvester raised an eyebrow.
"You seem rather confident."
Roseline turned her gaze toward the window again.
She remained silent for a moment.
’That’s because he’s already given me more than enough reason to be.’ She didn’t say the words aloud.
"Since he was able to confront me time and time again, I doubt he would die so easily out there on his own."
To her, Osborne was troublesome.
He was reckless.
He could be infuriating.
But he was also cunning.
Far more cunning than most people gave him credit for.
If he truly believed returning to the Roosevelt estate would put his life in danger, then he would find another way to survive.
Roseline knew that much.
"Well then, I’ll be seeing myself out." Since he was done relaying info, he thought it was best he left.
Roseline ignored him.
She returned her attention to the documents on her desk.
But she couldn’t concentrate.
Her eyes remained fixed on the same page without actually reading the words.
Her mind kept returning to the same thought.
’Now look what you’ve done...’ Roseline massaged her forehead.
She couldn’t get the thought of a demonified Osborne roaming around the kingdom alone out of her head.
’I should probably have someone go bring him back. If word gets out of what he’s become, the household is sure to suffer sufficient backlash.’ She let out a breath.

Nicholas drove the wagon toward the outskirts of the town, leaving behind the busy streets and crowded market areas as the number of buildings gradually became fewer and fewer.
