He had witnessed the terrifying destructive power of that Titan, a force so ferocious that even the God of All Machines and the Flesh and Blood Dominator were completely powerless against it. If he were to act, then all this calamity could surely be resolved. But...

If that were the case, if this war were to erupt here in Nightfall City, then the entire city would inevitably be reduced to rubble!

A war between Roots was, for insignificant ants like them, for the whole of Nightfall City, a cataclysm beyond redemption no matter who emerged victorious!

"No! Absolutely not..."

Cold sweat broke out all over his body. In that moment, frantic beyond words, he rushed to the railing, ready to leap.

He didn't know if he could stop it. He didn't know if some mysterious force was manipulating and driving all of this from behind the scenes. But as a Night Doctor, he absolutely could not stand by and watch it all unfold!

Yet it was precisely in that instant, just as he was about to leap from the High Tower...

He suddenly saw it.

There, in the direction of the Plaza below the High Tower, behind the countless pale and trembling Night Doctors, a figure he knew all too well was racing toward this direction at full speed.

"Fall back! Fall back!"

"Something's about to burst out! It's the aura of Dark Magic! It's one of the Roots that Sir Aiwen and the others are fighting!"

"Don't get close! Run!!"

The crowd in the Plaza, eyes bulging with rage, roared desperately in an attempt to disperse the people.

But it was in that very moment that a tentacle swept across the sightlines of every Night Doctor present. Under their shaken gazes, it shot forth from the distance in an instant, latching onto the gate that led underground.

As the tentacle abruptly tensed, a figure streaked over their heads at an unimaginable speed.

No hesitation whatsoever.

Not a shred of fear either.

The howling wind whipped through his bangs. He planted a foot on one Night Doctor's shoulder, his gaze calmer and more resolute than ever before, like one of those badass figures in martial arts novels who could scale walls and leap across rooftops, charging straight for that gate leading underground.

"Lynn?!"

White Night, standing atop the High Tower, immediately recognized the figure and rushed frantically to the railing.

"What are you doing here?! The Root that Sir Aiwen and the others are fighting is heading this way! Why did you come back?! Get back! Retreat!!"

And that bellowed cry caused every Night Doctor present to startle, all eyes landing on the young man.

Many recognized him.

Many knew of the crucial role he had played in that war in the Cursed City.

That Trainee Night Doctor who had joined Nightfall City not long ago but had already received a personal commendation from the Matriarch herself.

In that moment.

Everyone's gaze was drawn to him.

Lynn heard White Night's frantic shout from atop the High Tower, but he didn't slow his pace in the slightest. He adjusted his Monocle, a crisp smile spreading across his face, and amid the storm and the rolling black mist, he raised his hand high toward the tower and the entire sky, giving a thumbs up.

Like a statement.

Or like telling him: just because something seems impossible doesn't mean you shouldn't try.

Because wasn't that the very creed of the Night Doctors that he had once taught him?

Lynn might be a scumbag.

But he had always kept those words firmly in his heart.

Without saying another word, under the shaken gazes of every Night Doctor in the Plaza, he charged headlong into the surging, almost tangible black mist without a moment's hesitation, like a man walking to his death.

"Lynn!!!"

In that instant.

White Night's voice cracked from the force of his shout.

He vaulted over the railing, trying to stop him, but it was already too late.

He had already, under everyone's watch, plunged through that gate of calamity leading underground.

"Because isn't the protagonist always the last to appear?"

Landing hard, facing the pitch-black aura of that Root, Lynn adjusted his Monocle, pressed down on his hat, and a faint smile curled across his face.

Then, with a sliding tackle, he raced deeper into the depths against the violent black storm.

"Don't you dare show off at a time like this!!"

Zuo Zuo's hand was trembling like a sieve as she screamed.

"Haven't you noticed?! That quill you found didn't restrain the Matriarch at all! She's about to charge up! Going down there right now is suicide! Weren't you always terrified of death?! Why are you trying to be a hero now?!"

"Your eye is shattered! You can't use the Immortality curse on yourself anymore!!"

Lynn raced downward, the corners of his mouth quirking up as he said lightly:

"What a thing to say. Of course it's because I, Lynn, also possess the fine quality of being willing to sacrifice myself. As a qualified Night Doctor, isn't that only natural?"

"Bah!"

Zuo Zuo, wailing with distress, struggled desperately to stop him, to drag him back.

Zuo Zuo struggled desperately to stop him, to drag him back.

But this time, Lynn didn't heed her advice, even though he knew that it was because Zuo Zuo was worried about his safety—and, of course, her own.

He smiled, sprinting downward in great strides, pressing his hat down and flashing his white teeth:

"Enough, Zuo Zuo. I know what I'm doing."

"Don't worry, I'll definitely protect myself. But I also promised Sir Aiwen that I would keep the Matriarch's secret for him. And if Big Brother really ends up fighting her here, how could I possibly protect this city?"

The corners of his mouth lifted.

Zuo Zuo was left speechless, staring blankly.

But in that moment, looking at his profile, she felt that he looked extraordinarily handsome.

This guy...

He was actually being serious again, and that was rare!

Lynn sprinted downward, pressing a finger to his temple, speaking lightly and briskly:

"Quill, can you hear my voice?"

In the room at the center of the anomaly, the writing quill paused.

Clearly, her attention was also fixed intently on him.

Lynn spoke softly into the void: "Alright, I'll take that as a yes. Then please listen to what I have to say next."

"I know you're fulfilling our deal, and I know you want to use my Big Brother Titan's power to help me suppress that Fallen Angel. But right now, I'm asking you to please stop the script you're writing. I'm begging you."

"You might not care, but if you really let them erupt into a war here, then how is that any different from that Fallen Angel activating that Magic Circle?"

Lynn's words echoed through the quill's perception.

His voice was very calm, carrying even a hint of lightness.

But anyone could hear the protectiveness for this city in his words.

He said slowly:

"So please."

"Stop the awakening of my Big Brother Titan right now. And since the Magic Circle is already destroyed, there's no need to escalate things further. Nightfall City cannot lose its faith in the Matriarch. This matter will eventually come to light, I know, but I don't want it to be now."

He closed his eyes, his finger lifting from his temple.

And when he opened them again, he suddenly swung his arm out, blinding white streams of light dancing between his eyes and fingers, illuminating him like a beacon of daylight within the vast darkness.

He raised his head, amid the wild dance of silver light.

"So please give me a chance. A chance to get close to her."

"I will bring the Matriarch back personally, right here."
