Chapter 770: I've Come to Return the Book

  • Next Chapter

In an instant.

Lynn sprinted out through the gate, and the moment he emerged into the plaza outside, he saw the massive black magic circle churning high above in the sky. The overwhelming pressure plunged the entire city into a suffocating, bone-chilling stillness.

All across the plaza and the streets, Night Doctors stood frozen in confusion, their faces filled with bewilderment.

And at this very moment, a flood of Night Doctors was converging on the central plaza. Clearly, they too had sensed that something was wrong, and they were rushing toward the area where the Matriarch resided.

"Halt!"

"I am conveying the Matriarch's highest order! A powerful Root has invaded the Matriarch's residence! No one is permitted to set foot into the underground hall! Anyone who disobeys will face military tribunal!"

He couldn't tell them the truth.

Because he knew full well that if things truly came to the worst possible outcome, it would shatter the faith of everyone in Nightfall City!

White Night and the elite Night Doctors under his command had already rushed over in an emergency. Seeing Lynn blocking the entrance with gritted teeth, White Night immediately flew forward, frowning:

"What the hell is going on?! Lynn! What's happening in there!"

Lynn gritted his teeth, his eyes flickering, and said, "Brother White Night, it's best you don't ask. Right now, you're the only one I can rely on. Seal off the entire plaza immediately, and evacuate as many Night Doctors out of the city as you can. Get out as many as possible. If there's still a chance afterward, I'll explain everything to you!"

Without another word.

Lynn whirled around, crimson tentacles exploding from his body in an instant, latching onto the surrounding buildings. Like a slingshot, he launched himself at maximum speed toward the Abnormal Creature Center where he had been before.

Behind him, White Night stood shaken, staring at Lynn's retreating figure. He then turned to look at the passageway leading to the underground hall.

Even he felt wave after wave of palpitations.

What the hell is going on?!

He had already noticed the grim expression on Sir Aiwen's face when they had returned.

Clearly, something abnormal must have happened to the Matriarch.

But this wasn't the time to think about it. He immediately led his men to seal off the passageway leading underground, gritting his teeth and clenching his fists, forbidding anyone present from taking a single step inside.

Because he knew that no matter what was happening, if even the combined strength of Sir Aiwen and the other Roots couldn't handle it, then they would be of no use either.

...

Along the way.

Countless tentacles burst forth from Lynn's body, latching onto the walls around him as he raced forward at breakneck speed.

The streets were filled with panicked crowds because of the magic circle that had appeared in the sky. The suffocating atmosphere grew heavier with each passing moment, like a scene of doomsday descending.

Lynn gritted his teeth, pushing his speed to the absolute limit.

And at this moment.

He was keenly aware of his own weakness.

If he were at the Death-Omen Tier right now, or even the Transcendent level, he wouldn't be so agonized.

"Stupid Brain! What are you planning to do? Don't you have the Curse Purge ability? If you charged in with Sir Aiwen and the others and used it on that Fallen Angel, the Matriarch should be able to suppress her, right?"

Zuo Zuo raised her hand urgently and asked.

Lynn clutched his Monocle and gritted his teeth, "No, my Curse Purge ability has already been exposed in front of her. There's no way to catch her off guard anymore."

"And didn't you hear what she said? She doesn't care about winning or losing at all. She's just toying with us. Like she said, this is just a welcome gift. And if I'm not mistaken, what she wants most is to see me attempt the Curse Purge on her, only to trigger the entire magic circle, throw the whole city into chaos, and watch us lose everything right before our eyes at the last moment!"

"I know exactly how these Chaotic Evil creatures operate, better than anyone!"

Lynn roared, his speed reaching its peak.

They revel in this madness.

What they want most is to see others writhing in agony and despair within the palm of their hands.

Because when the Clown Curse had eroded him, he too had felt that intense, intoxicating rush of falling into evil. It was like a drug, addictive and irresistible, making you want to fully indulge in that wicked pleasure.

And whether it was the Flesh and Blood Dominator, the Desire Mother Tree, or sometimes even himself, they all loved to show off like that!

Damn it!

"Th-then... what do we do now..."

Zuo Zuo was visibly trembling. Clearly, this was a situation she had never experienced before.

Lynn gritted his teeth and quickly pulled out one crumpled book after another from his System Space, saying:

"We're going to return the books!"

"Do you remember what Sir Aiwen said? Our Nightfall City doesn't just have Monarchs and Roots! There's also an unknown entity who fell from the Shattered World, just like Miaomiao! If there's anyone who can stop this chaos right now, it's Him!"

The moment those words left his mouth, Zuo Zuo was stunned.

Then she immediately remembered the room in the containment center that her stupid brain had stumbled into by accident when dealing with Miaomiao before.

[002, the Quill Pen]!

Crack -

A bolt of lightning split the sky.

Lynn suddenly came to a halt in front of a massive, dilapidated building. He looked up, his gaze landing on the several large characters hanging from the towering structure.

Abnormal Creature Containment Center.

It was also the place where he had worked for a while, the place that housed a collection of indescribable, bizarre creatures that Sir Aiwen had boredly collected and contained.

"Let's go!"

He kicked the door open.

At the counter, a female Night Doctor wearing a White Coat and glasses froze in surprise. Snack in hand, she instinctively looked up and saw Lynn storming in. She quickly shoved the snack under the desk and said:

"Oh, you're Dr. Lynn? I've seen your name on the roster. Didn't you go to the Cursed City?"

Lynn screeched to a halt in front of her.

He looked at the name tag on her chest.

Aier.

It was the very doctor he had never met before, the one who worked the opposite shift with him, a diligent and dedicated physician.

But Lynn had no time to greet her. He immediately sprinted toward the containment room inside, but after barely taking two steps, he gritted his teeth and rushed back.

Then, under Doctor Aier's bewildered gaze, he quickly pulled a flower bud from the Desire Mother Tree out of his System Space, grabbed a tiny Leviathan tentacle, and snapped it into a bow on the bud. He handed it to her, adjusted his Monocle, and said slowly:

"A little gift for you, Doctor Aier. I hope we get along well in the future. You're just as beautiful as this flower in my hand!"

Slap -

Zuo Zuo, furious beyond measure, slammed onto Lynn's face like a Facehugger, clawing at him and yelling:

"Hopeless! Absolutely hopeless! You stupid brain! You were running off and you came back just to flirt with her! Nightfall City is about to be destroyed! Destroyed!"

Old habits die hard!

This guy's old habits never die!

And then, after Doctor Aier blankly accepted the flower and instinctively murmured a "thank you," Lynn gritted his teeth and charged into the inner corridor at an unimaginable speed.

He slid to a stop in front of the most unremarkable door at the very end.

Written on it was:

[002]

"I've come, to return the book!"
