Chapter 221: Chapter 218: Invulnerable to Poison

The beautiful, colorful scene from just a moment ago suddenly didn’t seem so beautiful anymore.

Now that she was clear-headed, Chen Xing was certain they had been unknowingly bewitched by something.

After emerging from her space, she discovered that even Meng Hu, who usually only wagged its tail for her, was now trotting behind this group of people, tail wagging.

This was completely unacceptable!

’You’re my exclusive companion, how could you do this?’

’What an ungrateful beast!’

To keep up the act, Chen Xing wore a faint smile.

’Putting on an act? Who can’t do that?’

After some more talk about thanking God for allowing them to survive in peace, their hosts led the three of them to their bedrooms.

They were generous enough to give them each a room, but the rooms were all quite far apart.

Chen Xing was assigned the innermost room on the second floor. As for Wen Yan and Xiao Long, she wasn’t sure of the exact locations, only that they were both on the third floor.

Thankfully, at her strong insistence, Meng Hu was allowed to stay with her.

The room’s furnishings had a classical European feel, with a high, soft bed and a white gauze canopy above it. The only drawback was the lack of windows.

’The bed is comfortable, though!’

Chen Xing lay on the bed and immediately entered her space to drink some spring water.

And in that short time, the Jiezhi Space leveled up.

This time, in addition to the space getting slightly larger, two more of those mysterious little square slots appeared, bringing the total to four.

She tried to place something in one, but it wouldn’t go in.

The slots didn’t seem to be solid, yet they were clearly there, and she could touch them.

This time, the Jiezhi Space’s effective range was even wider, extending more than ten meters out.

’If it keeps upgrading like this, won’t I be able to enter from one spot and exit somewhere else my enemies can’t possibly reach?’

Since she was right under their noses, Chen Xing didn’t dare to test it out.

She took out her phone again, but it had no signal at all.

’That’s very strange!’

It had a signal just a little while ago on the main road outside the house.

"Dear family, it is time for our evening meal. Let us go thank God for bestowing upon us... BLAH BLAH BLAH..." The gibberish started up again outside.

Chen Xing fought the urge to kick someone and said wearily, "I’m not hungry, I’m not eating!"

Just two minutes later, she heard an increase in footsteps outside.

’Did they send a whole squad to persuade me?’

The door opened, and Chen Xing deliberately remained lying on the bed, looking lethargic.

"Are you not feeling well? We have a doctor here..."

’You guys have God, so why the hell would you need a doctor?’

Chen Xing wanted to snap back, but she held her tongue.

’Let’s just see what they’re up to.’

This life was different from her last. She was living with more confidence this time, and she was curious to see what kind of scheme these people could possibly cook up.

’In any case, I’m confident I can protect myself.’

"I’m not unwell, just tired and don’t feel like eating. Thank you for your kindness!" Chen Xing did her best to sound agreeable.

"Since you have no appetite, we’ll leave some food for you. However, this big friend of yours must be hungry, right?"

Meng Hu immediately leaped up and cozied up to the speaker.

Chen Xing didn’t object and let Meng Hu go with them.

Two hours passed, and Meng Hu still hadn’t returned.

Chen Xing lay patiently on the bed, conserving her strength.

’Of course, there was no way she was going to let herself go hungry.’

She still had freshly made vegetable buns and shumai in her space, all stored while they were still hot.

Taking them out to eat now, they were just as good as when they were first made.

She also took out a sesame-oil-dressed cold vegetable dish sprinkled with sesame seeds, along with some smooth, refreshing fern root noodles, and enjoyed a wonderful meal.

By ten o’clock, Meng Hu still hadn’t returned.

The entire building was eerily quiet.

When he had brought her to the room earlier, Nick had warned her—just like in a horror movie—that no one was allowed to wander around at night.

Especially not outside. Even if the sky were falling, you couldn’t go out.

Chen Xing wasn’t afraid of any ghosts or ghouls.

She was particularly interested in the white figure she had glimpsed during the day.

If it was the product of an evolved mutated monster, then its Crystal Core would be quite valuable.

With Meng Hu gone for so long, Chen Xing decided to go out and take a look.

But... when she gave the door a gentle pull, it didn’t open.

It was clearly locked from the outside.

’Are they kidding me?’

’This flimsy door? A thing so drafty a gust of wind could blow right through it? They think this can hold me?’

Chen Xing applied a little bit of force, and the entire door came off, frame and all.

’So shoddy!’

After stepping out, Chen Xing put the door back in place.

There was no lock on the door, but rather a latch wrapped in soft, sound-dampening foam, so it made no noise.

Chen Xing went upstairs first.

The third floor was so quiet you couldn’t even hear a single breath.

It was obviously empty!

Chen Xing turned to head back downstairs.

Just then, Meng Hu’s roar suddenly echoed through the building, so powerful it seemed to make the house tremble.

Chen Xing sprinted downstairs.

In the spacious lobby, she saw a crowd of people wearing black cloaks.

As if in prayer, they were all kneeling toward the center of the room.

It was the spot where she had seen the strange pattern drawn on the floor.

In the very center, Xiao Long was lying on his back, a smile as radiant as a blooming flower on his face.

Beside him, a boy of seventeen or eighteen was holding a knife, raising it over Xiao Long’s wrist.

It looked exactly like a human sacrifice scene from some twisted cult.

And Meng Hu was on the outer edge of the crowd, separated by several rings of people, roaring furiously as it tried to charge forward and attack.

’That’s my good boy!’

It turned out that when the beast saw its master acting friendly toward these people, it had decided to play along.

It had even outdone her by infiltrating the enemy’s inner circle, but now it was watching its two sworn comrades, Wen Yan and Xiao Long.

"How does this tiger have a mind of its own?" the seventeen-year-old boy, Allen, asked, his face tinged with anger.

He shot a blaming look at his father, Nick.

Nick was stunned as well.

The beast had clearly been tamed, obediently submitting to their control. Why had it suddenly gone rogue?

"Quick, sprinkle some more Heavenly Fragrance Powder on it!" Nick immediately ordered the people near Meng Hu to throw more of the hallucinogenic powder on it.

’This stuff has never failed before. Why isn’t it working now?’

"That stuff is useless on my little darling!" Chen Xing’s cold voice cut through the air as she walked into the crowd.

Meng Hu’s maw split into a grin.

’Master actually called me her little darling?’

’She’s usually so stern. She really does love me, doesn’t she?’

"You... How could you not have been entranced?" Nick asked in disbelief.

"I’m immune to all poisons."

Just then, the still-bewitched Wen Yan approached Chen Xing.

Before he could do anything, Chen Xing struck first, twisting his arm behind his back to restrain him. She then pulled out the spring water she had prepared and forced him to drink it.

She had acted first because she didn’t want a dazed Wen Yan to attack her and then die of regret after coming to his senses.

"Sister Xing..." Wen Yan had already snapped out of it when Meng Hu roared.

But now, with a belly full of water being forced down his throat, he was completely unable to resist.

When Chen Xing finally let him go, he said plaintively, "I was totally fine..."

’Oh, well.’

’Now’s not the time to get hung up on that!’

Seeing that his targets were no longer under control, Allen reached out to grab Xiao Long as a hostage.
