Cooking Gourmet Meals in the Apocalypse
Chapter 222 - 219: Sacrifice
Chapter 222: Chapter 219: Sacrifice
Allen was certainly fast, but his outstretched hand failed to catch Xiao Long.
Instead, he could only watch as Chen Xing held Xiao Long down and forced him to drink raw water.
The dazed Xiao Long instantly came to his senses.
He seemed to recall being used as a sacrifice by these people, and his expression darkened.
He had truly felt that this place was like a home.
Then, before he knew it, he had fallen under their control.
He glanced apologetically at Chen Xing and Wen Yan.
’Of the three of them, he was the only one whose mind had been swayed. He really needed to work on his willpower.’
"Brother Xiao Long, they just exploited our longing for our families to control us. It’s impossible to defend against something like that!" Wen Yan knew all too well that Brother Xiao Long had always yearned for the warmth of a family.
Xiao Long nodded helplessly.
At that moment, the hundreds of people kneeling on the floor all stood up in a furious surge.
They completely surrounded the three of them and Meng Hu.
They didn’t attack, but they babbled incessantly, their words a jumble of noise.
’So annoying!’
Chen Xing, who was sensitive to sound, felt like her head was about to explode.
With a single leap, she sailed over the crowd, landed by the door, and placed her hand on the handle.
The crowd went silent, their chattering cut short.
"You can’t open that door!" Nick cried, trying to stop Chen Xing. "Do you have any idea what will happen if you do?"
Seeing Chen Xing, the crowd began to drone on again.
Chen Xing pulled... but the door didn’t budge an inch.
The cult-like followers’ incessant chanting grew even louder.
They sounded as if they wanted to subject the person trying to open the door to death by a thousand cuts.
Chen Xing took a closer look at the top of the door and saw that it had been riveted shut.
’Just how scared are they of this door being opened?’
"The door is riveted shut! There’s no way you can open it!" Nick sneered, his expression screaming, ’You’re a dead woman.’
Chen Xing glanced at the glass window.
She only just noticed that each individual pane of glass in the window was tiny.
"Trying to escape? You don’t stand a chance!" Nick’s face twisted into a vicious sneer. "We would never give our sacrifices an opportunity to run. Tonight, this ’friend’ of yours will be the sacred offering. Tomorrow night, it’s his turn. And after that..."
Nick didn’t get to finish. He was cut short by a sudden, cold gust of wind that carried flurries of snow.
The riveted door had been yanked clean open by the girl.
As the cold wind swept in, the eyes of the crowd filled with terror.
Nick seemed to be the first to sense the danger. He grabbed his son and bolted for the stairs.
Chen Xing immediately took two steps back.
’Places like this, that bring so much harm, should be torn out by the roots!’
’Letting them exist will only lead to more deaths.’
Just then, several streaks of white light flashed by, followed by a series of blood-curdling screams.
In the blink of an eye, dozens of people collapsed, their necks and heads mauled.
A closer look revealed them to be entirely white monsters. They resembled bald eagles, but their movements were far faster.
Unlike bald eagles, they didn’t fly by flapping their wings, but by launching themselves forward with incredible momentum.
As a result, each movement was a blur—so fast that no one could clearly see how they did it.
Chen Xing backed away, shielding Wen Yan and Xiao Long until their backs were against a wall.
Just as one of the white monsters charged them, Chen Xing sent it flying with a single kick.
The white monsters were incredibly fast. In an instant, the number of dead and injured was already immense.
A few of the Superpower Users from the church used their superpowers a couple of times before realizing they were no match for the monsters and quickly scattered.
Meng Hu was eager for a fight, awaiting its master’s command.
"Go on!" Chen Xing patted Meng Hu.
Meng Hu shot forward in an instant, lunging at a white monster and sinking its teeth into the creature’s head.
The monster immediately dropped, and Meng Hu spat its Crystal Core onto the floor.
It was like a large wolfhound hunting pheasants, taking them down one by one with a single bite.
Chen Xing was astonished.
’This Crystal Core... it’s clearly an Advanced Crystal Core!’
’I can’t believe these white monsters have already evolved to the highest level.’
Once they steadied themselves, Wen Yan and Xiao Long immediately began fighting the monsters.
Seeing that the two could protect themselves, Chen Xing leaped up the stairs to the next floor.
When she reached the second floor, she heard frantic knocking and shouting from above. "Sect Hierarch, open the door! You have to save us, Sect Hierarch..."
"Please, open the door! If you don’t, those monsters downstairs will eat us alive!"
"Sect Hierarch..."
When Chen Xing reached the third floor, she saw several people in black cloaks pounding desperately on a reinforced security door at the far end of the hall.
But the person inside showed no sign of pity.
Chen Xing reached the door in a few long strides.
Seeing Chen Xing approach, the people at the door scrambled to press themselves against the wall in fear.
With a single kick, the security door crashed inward, taking the entire frame with it and tearing a chunk of plaster from the wall.
The two people inside had no time to process what was happening. A white shadow flickered twice, and the next moment, a monster that had followed Chen Xing in clamped its jaws around one of their necks.
Chen Xing, who had sidestepped upon entry to give the monster an opening, moved in and finished it with two quick slashes of her knife.
After killing the few survivors in the hall, the other monsters outside swarmed into the room.
’Five of them!’
’Not a single one of these monsters is getting away today!’
The monsters swiftly launched a coordinated attack on Chen Xing.
But Chen Xing’s movements were even faster. She dodged and killed simultaneously.
By the time she had killed the five monsters and returned downstairs, she was met with a scene of utter carnage.
Her big Meng Hu was covered in blood, still buzzing with excitement, but there were no monsters left.
A few survivors remained, cowering in a corner and staring in terror at the three humans and one tiger.
They could never have imagined that the swarm of monsters that had kept them in a state of constant fear, too terrified to even open the door, had been so easily annihilated.
’For months, they had killed and sacrificed so many people to these monsters just to ensure their own survival.’
’At least one person every night. On bad nights, they had to kill several people and toss them outside.’
"Where is the Heavenly Fragrance Powder?" Chen Xing’s voice was calm, yet it carried an underlying, chilling ruthlessness.
One of the people cowering in the corner pointed to a wall cabinet near the entrance. "It’s all in there!"
The stuff was highly effective. Whenever outsiders arrived, they would sprinkle some around. Anyone who inhaled it would quickly find their mind clouded and easily controlled.
The advantage of Heavenly Fragrance Powder was that it was colorless and odorless, so most people were caught completely unawares.
Furthermore, just a small amount was incredibly potent.
Inside the cabinet was a small, twenty-centimeter-tall square box, and it was still full of powder.
"Only the Sect Hierarch knows how to make the Heavenly Fragrance Powder. He usually makes a new batch once a month. This batch was just made two days ago!" Fearing interrogation, the survivors volunteered the information.
Chen Xing stored the Heavenly Fragrance Powder in her backpack. "If you dare lie to me, you’ll regret it in the morning."
It was late, and with the situation outside unknown, she decided not to risk venturing out. It was better to stay the night here.
The three of them went upstairs, found a nearby room, and went to sleep.
By the time the three of them awoke, it was already seven in the morning.
After eating breakfast in their room, the three of them finally went downstairs.
When they reached the ground floor, all three of them froze.
The lower floor was spotless. Forget bodies—not even a single trace of blood remained.
If it weren’t for the broken main door still hanging open, they might have believed that the events of the previous night had never happened at all.
