Chapter 219: Chapter 216: Zombie Horde

She remembered this country had a high population density, so it should have either a lot of living people or a lot of zombies.

The first possibility was unlikely.

Despite the city’s seemingly intact appearance, many of the buildings were empty, dilapidated shells that hadn’t been lived in for a long time.

Chen Xing headed down the hillside, guided by her memory.

She wanted to find those few houses that had people in them and take a look.

As she neared the center of the city, she suddenly heard a burst of furious roars.

They definitely weren’t human, and it didn’t sound like there were just a few of them.

A zombie horde!

Chen Xing figured a zombie horde was trapped somewhere.

A very agitated one, at that.

She listened closely and realized the sound was coming from the entrance to an underground staircase beneath the fountain ahead.

By the time she was standing below the fountain, music began to play, and zombies surged out from the underground entrance.

Chen Xing was speechless. ’They’re deliberately luring me here to feed the zombies!’

She calmly made her way toward the house where she had seen people earlier.

She opened the door. The inside was empty.

Chen Xing immediately thought of a basement and kicked open the tightly shut door leading downstairs.

A sharp scream echoed from below, followed by the sound of footsteps.

Chen Xing knew this was an entrance to some kind of secret base.

Without a second thought, she led the zombie horde inside.

She was just returning the favor.

The footsteps and breathing ahead grew closer. With a flicker, Chen Xing vanished from before the frenzied zombies and entered her Jiezhi Space.

The horde followed the sounds and charged in.

Before long, even more pathetic cries for help came from inside.

When Chen Xing emerged from the Jiezhi Space, the heat was as intense as a steamer.

’No wonder the zombies were so agitated.’

She came out of the basement carrying a canister of gasoline and headed up.

Meanwhile, on the road ahead, several vehicles were driving up the mountain.

’So, the people in this city survive by using zombies to kill others and then looting their supplies?’

No wonder they spread rumors about some rare species.

They probably only found the precious Little Grass by sheer accident this time.

Chen Xing wasn’t too worried about Wen Yan and Xiao Long, though.

Their superpowers were auxiliary types, but Wen Yan was a Double Superpower User. Plus, ever since they entered the mountains, Chen Xing had been giving them spring water to drink every day. They definitely wouldn’t lose a fight against ordinary Superpower Users.

Besides, Meng Hu was there too.

By the time she reached the summit with the gasoline canister, Meng Hu had already mauled most of the people, leaving only two who were still breathing.

One was a bit older, and the other was a man in his thirties.

They couldn’t understand why their large group had lost to just two people.

Was it just because of the tiger?

’But... we’re all Superpower Users. How could we lose to a tiger?’

’It’s not like we’ve never killed beasts before!’

In that short time, Xiao Long, using his halting common tongue, had already pried a lot of information out of them. "Sister Xing, they said there’s nothing special in the mountains. They made up the story and spread it around because everyone who went in never came back, and they wanted to lure outsiders in to check it out!"

"They also said all the zombies in their city are locked up. They only let them out when outsiders arrive, just to kill them and steal their things!"

’As expected of one of Song Yiguo’s men. His interrogation methods are vicious.’

Chen Xing glanced at the two men. "Is there a road from here to the neighboring country?"

This city was on the edge of the Arctic Circle, not far from the next country.

The man in his thirties was about to point behind the mountain, but Xiao Long gave him a harsh blow, and he immediately pointed out a road leading to the neighboring country. "Go straight down from here. After about twenty kilometers, there’s a main road that marks the border with our country."

Chen Xing paid the two men no mind. After filling up the car with gasoline, she left.

Back in the city’s underground, she had heard all sorts of sounds. They weren’t from humans or zombies; they sounded like they were coming from the earth itself.

She worried there might be a volcanic eruption.

’I’m not taking any chances!’

So, she found the road the man had pointed out and drove on.

After driving for more than twenty kilometers, there was indeed a relatively wide road with a clearly marked border.

She didn’t dare let her guard down or stop.

On the road, small tremors began to occur intermittently again.

Fortunately, the area around this road was no longer mountainous but a vast, flat plain that stretched as far as the eye could see.

Even if a volcano did erupt, the lava flow should slow down by the time it reached here.

Not long after they got onto the main road, they heard an explosive sound, and the surrounding temperature rose again.

’Floor it!’

’We have a full tank anyway!’

The car sped down the main road at full throttle.

Suddenly, a dense black mass appeared ahead, completely blocking the road.

A closer look forced them to slam on the brakes.

The plains ahead were covered in zombies.

Attracted by the sound of their car, the zombies were turning and sprinting in their direction.

She had rarely seen this many zombies, even in her past life.

"You drive!" Chen Xing shouted to Xiao Long beside her, immediately scrambling from the driver’s seat to the passenger’s seat.

Retreating was not an option; this was their only way forward.

She pulled a few grenades from her backpack, leaned out the window, and tossed one into the center of the zombie horde ahead.

An opening instantly appeared in the middle, but it was still far from the car and was quickly filled by zombies from behind.

’Firepower won’t be enough to deal with this many zombies.’

While leaning out the window, Chen Xing took the opportunity to release the little wolf cub, which had the Little Grass in its mouth.

This wasn’t a reckless move.

There hadn’t been a single mutated zombie in the mountains before, which suggested the Little Grass’s paralyzing effect also worked on creatures like zombies.

Wen Yan and Xiao Long were completely baffled. Where did this wolf cub suddenly come from?

They didn’t notice the Little Grass in its mouth, however.

As the little wolf cub passed by, the zombies ahead fell in droves.

"Drive through!" Chen Xing knew they only had a few minutes.

They had to get past the horde before the zombies got back up, or they’d be in serious trouble.

She didn’t want to reveal the existence of her space unless absolutely necessary.

The little wolf cub came through, clearing a path for them.

Xiao Long and Wen Yan were stunned. ’How is this wolf cub just like that poisonous plant?’

Luckily, they were in a military truck with high clearance and plenty of horsepower, and it plowed right over the bodies of the zombies.

"Sister Xing, look behind us!" Xiao Long, who was driving, yelled as he slammed on the accelerator.

Chen Xing looked back. Orange-red lava was surging toward them like a giant wave.

Although it was still far away, they had no guarantee that it would stop on its own.

The zombie horde ahead still seemed endless.

"Just keep driving!" Chen Xing’s words were firm, but only she knew how helpless she felt.
