Contract Marriage: Married to My Ex-Husband's Alpha Stepfather [BL]
Chapter 119: I Took An Arrow To The Heart
[KATYA]
Katya drank himself stupid for the whole morning with his friends. It was like he had opened another Chapter of his loneliness, one that didn’t care what he did or what he didn’t.
He had already lost everything, and with society turning its back on him, for the umpteenth time, Katya didn’t even have any hope that it would be better.
He had long expected his life to be shit after everything that had happened. Yaroslav introduced Milan, but now it was like this was the part of his life that he would ever be able to outgrow.
He wondered if the city ever considered that he was a real person with feelings and shit, because even though the clock struck two in the afternoon, his phone was still buzzing with messages he didn’t even want to look at.
It was like he was the newest subject in the endless humiliation ritual by a family he would never be able to live freely as a part of. This was dangerous, but what the heck, right?
"Turn it off," Svet whined so where’d during the pub drinking, when Katya’s phone couldn’t stop spamming. The messages kept coming through regardless of what Katya did, and frankly, he had long given up.
Granted, it was on do-not-disturb mode, but still, it didn’t make it any better because it was exhausting to watch the notifications streaming like that.
Anyone would think Katya had committed the worst of crimes, but his only crime was not having the one thing that Milan had.
A family.
One that he created.
One that he continued.
He didn’t have that.
He would not have that for a long while.
And it was haunting to even think about it.
Thankfully, as he drank with his friends, there wasn’t room to think of what the previous day had been or even what today was going to be like for him.
And that was how Katya ended up spending a good portion of his entire work day at the pub, dancing and singing karaoke, playing stupid games with his friend.
Perhaps because they all knew that once it was all over, there was only so much that Katya could pretend that the day had happened.
That the week hadn’t even stuck hard, and worse, that Milan wasn’t the mother of the Moskowsky heiress now.
It was something that made his heart shatter, but again, Katya was determined to make it through his day.
He didn’t care if this was fucked or if he would be reprimanded for missing an entire workday.
After all, everyone was happy that the Moskowskys got an heiress, right?
"Do not do anything stupid," Svet and Andre told him when they brought him back to 13 Emerald, while drunk off their asses. The driver who had brought them didn’t say a word, not that he ever did.
But then, for a community that was currently opinionated, it was almost a first for them too.
Everything was crazy.
And right in the middle of it all was Katya Romanov, broken and ruined one too many times in the kind of way that he would never even save himself for with ease.
This was terrible, fuck.
"I’ll be fine...you can go now," Katya insisted once they dropped him off.
He had long instructed his driver to take them home and make sure they were inside the house before he left.
Because knowing Svet and Andre, they would probably go back to the pub and drink the rest of the day away. Which was good, but was it more fun when they were all together, no?
Oh, Katya.
"Everyone has an opinion on a baby and how to make itttt!!" Katya whispered as he sang drunkenly, finding his way into his realistic prison.
It was really something else altogether. However, since he didn’t have that many options at the moment, he just had to endure all that this came with; there were no shortcuts this time.
And fuck if Katya didn’t wish that there were loopholes so that in his reality.
Because maybe, just maybe, he wouldn’t have had to worry about what society would think of him, and he would move on.
If only it were that easy for him.
Oh, if only.
The backpack in Katya’s hand slipped to the floor the moment Katya entered the house.
The omega was not ready to think of anything, so he willed himself to sleep. To forget about the whole day and the way the week had begun.
Yet even drunk off his ass, Katya couldn’t help the nagging feeling about the black envelope that had carried throughout the day. He couldn’t help but wonder what the fuck was so important that it had to be sent like that.
For a moment, he wanted to postpone it.
To avoid facing whatever was in there, because at least then he would buy himself enough time to deal with the chaos later. He could even assume that he had been trying to live a happy life, despite the fact that he could never postpone it all forever.
Katya did plan to put it off forever now, did he?
Then again, the omega had already wasted a whole Moskowsky working day.
If he were to wake up and head to work tomorrow with the splitting hangover that was headed his way, he needed to at least understand what was going on. At least an inkling, because there were very high chances that things would go too easily for him.
To with all the negative press anyway.
"Nina!" Katya called for his head maidservant when he finally sat down.
"Yes, Chairman Katya," Nina said, the title too raw on her lips.
And Katya frowned at her.
He had told her to drop the formalities for months now, but she still stuck to it.
Perhaps that was what their working contracts demanded, too, and Katya didn’t want anyone to lose their job, much less because of him.
After all, they were all here as pawns for the Moskowsky household, were they not?
"Can I please get something to sober up?" Katya requested, head in his hands as he tried to gauge what he needed to do. His mind was whirring, and his life was getting worse by the day.
It was like he was entering hell in phases, which was funny because he could swear he had walked right into hell, or rather hell had walked toward him, that one time he had miscarried.
And he had remained cursed since that day.
"Of course, Chairman Katya. I will be right back," Nina said before she left and came back with some ugly-looking soup.
Katya stared at the damn thing, almost like it wasn’t what he had signed up for. Honestly, he was considering going back in time and pretending he didn’t ask for this shit.
However, at the same time, he was nagged by the fact that there was a black envelope in his back the whole day.
He needed to know.
So begrudgingly, he drank the soup, wincing at how bitter and shitty it tasted. But then he didn’t have any other options, right? After the soup and a few painkillers, Katya lay his head to rest for a while.
Because she still had things to do.
Thankfully, he woke up an hour later feeling a bit better, even though hazy. But at least with everything on his mind, he had chosen to keep going.
After all, what was the worst that could happen to him at this point anyway?
"... Erika Gamova... Knox..."
