[KATYA]

Katya turned the TV back on, because honestly, it would be easier with some background noise, even if that noise was the painful reminder of the one thing that had never been able to give the Moskowskys.

But again, if he wanted to, would he go back to lie with Yaroslav for it?

What the fuck was that even supposed to make him then?

Katya ignored everything that was twirling in his mind, including the pain that he was going through at the moment. Or even the reminder of everything that was being forced in his direction.

And when he pulled the envelope, he sat, breathed in, and stared at it a little longer.

"My fate could be in here," Katya mumbled as he stared at the black envelope in his hands. It was a tad heavier than he had imagined; perhaps he was still not thinking clearly.

But what the hell, right?

So, he opened it.

The black envelope with his fate.

And when he got out the papers...

Katya sobered up.

Immediately.

"What?" the omega asked as he stared at the peppers before him.

This had to be unreal.

There was just no way he was staring at a possible reality for him.

This couldn’t be what he was hoping for.

As Katya stared at those papers, divorce papers would have been way better than what he was seeing right now. This was worse than any of the hells he had endured with the most ways over the past few months.

This was bad.

Fuck.

"No..." Katya trailed off, his eyes watering involuntarily at the sight. He wanted to say it was because his head was achy, but his splitting headache was the least of his problems right now.

These papers were.

The fact that they were all already signed and waiting just for his signature was really something else.

They were a stash of four separate stapled documents.

They looked like simple documents, but the more Katya stared, the more he was reminded that he would never be free. That he would never hold any weight anywhere.

Staring at them, Katya was tempted to ask the moon goddess what he had done that was so bad for him to deserve this.

It was cruel.

So very cruel, but what the hell right?

The first stash was about Knox technologies. The great tech company that was under the Moskowsky group. That part shouldn’t have been surprising, after all, it was true, wasn’t it?

But these papers said something else.

Knox was still part of the Moskowsky group, but it was a private entity. One that would be managed by the Gamov household. In fact, Knox was solely owned by someone else in the Makowsky family.

Not Yaroslav.

Not Sergei anymore.

Knox Tech was now owned by Erika Gamova.

The infant who wasn’t even a day old.

The management papers said that it would be managed by the kid’s parents until she grew older enough to take care of the business on her own.

Her parents.

Yaroslav Gamov.

Milan Popova.

Milan.

His husband’s mistress.

That Milan.

Gods, Katya felt like he had just been smacked in the face by the worst of the worst.

It was a cruel thing, really, and it had Katya wondering if he had had his baby...

If his baby would have gotten what the Moskowskys were giving. Granted, Katya had never been one for wealth, but this was just the reminder that Sergei loved the new Moskowsky heiress.

Of course he did.

That was his grandchild.

That was his only child’s child.

What was there not to love?

"Erika Gamova," Katya sighed at the name.

The innocent child who had gotten everything.

Katya wasn’t even mad about it.

He was just surprised at how things had turned out.

This hurt the kind of way he had not even anticipated, and he had to deal with the possibility that everything he had leaned into over the few months was worth nothing after all.

It was just not what he had anticipated, but what was the worst that could happen, right?

Signing the ownership papers for Knox, Katya sighed softly.

He would never win.

Yet this was a battle he wasn’t even sure he wanted to win.

What use was fighting against a child? What kind of a person would that make him? Besides, children weren’t supposed to pay the price for their parents’ misdeeds, no? Still didn’t hurt any less.

But Katya signed anyway.

It was his duty.

As the chairperson of the Moskowsky group.

And once he signed, the share transfers were approved.

Knox now belonged to Erika Gamova.

Managed by Yaroslav and Milan.

On their baby’s behalf.

Oh, how everyone was getting their happy ending, save for Katya, who was here just approving things that made everyone happy.

It was his duty after all, right?

He had signed the contracts earlier, no?

And it didn’t matter whether Sergei had Irina, or if Yaroslav had Milan to make him the happiest man in the city right now.

What mattered was the fact that Katya had been unable to give them what they wanted, so they accepted the one person who could give it to them.

The second set of papers was arguably worse than what Katya had seen in the first one.

And Katya had to get up and pace a few times before he could come and face it.

This was the one thing that had certainly caught him off guard.

And again, Katya wished these were divorce papers. Because divorce couldn’t have hurt like this. Whether it was from Yaroslav or his barbaric father. It wouldn’t have struck him this hard, but damn.

"Wow," Katya sniffled, as he walked around the room, like that was going to make this easier for him.

But it would never really be, would it now?

This was his reality.

His curse.

His punished for choosing to fall in love.

His karma for being the one who was useless to the Moskowskys.

Oh, but it hurt.

The second papers were about their matrimonial home.

His home with Yaroslav. Or at least what it had once been.

The home Katya had been forced to sign off on months ago as the Moskowsky group chairperson.

The home he had seen years put on the market.

The home that he was so sure had new occupants all this time, which was why eh and never gone back there, even to remember what love had once been for him.

That home.

Was never sold.

All that had just been Moskowsky’s gimmicks, and Katya felt his heart shatter even more as he read the papers about the home.

It was being remodeled, not for new occupants...

But for Yaroslav...

... and Milan.

As in the same Milan, he had found fucking his husband on their couch. That Milan. The same Milan who was now the mother of the Moskowsky heiress.

What the fuck was life, though?

Katya was losing his mind.

His heart was breaking with every minute that passed, and if he had been hungover earlier, all that went out the window.

Because this wasn’t even cruel. This was worse.

Because they had made him believe otherwise...

For months...

Months.
