Chapter 164: I WILL STAY

"He is fine. He is a fugitive now," Zade said in an even tone, so it was hard to tell what was in his mind.

"Fugitive?" Seara was surprised. "You could break him out?"

"I realize they will not go through with the court order. They are going to kill him." Zade took a remote control and turned on the television to show Seara what had happened when she was unconscious.

This room was not very spacious, so it was safe to say that they were not in a big hospital. Were they in a clinic? Seara couldn’t tell for sure; she tried to listen to the people out there, but it was very quiet.

"How long have I been out?"

"Three days."

Zade looked calm now, but Seara didn’t know how enraged he was when he heard that she was harmed. He rushed back to the small hospital where they had taken her and didn’t take a step out of the room during that time.

Thankfully, they had secured Ace when they heard what happened in the hospital; therefore, the devils wouldn’t have leverage against them.

Yet, it didn’t make the situation any better. If anything, the devils became even more reckless.

"That is..." Seara was stunned when she saw the news about the shifters.

In the headline, it was said, "MONSTER IS LIVING AMONG US."

"Humans have learned about the shifters now," Zade said grimly. This was one thing that they didn’t expect. It was like an unwritten rule not to disclose their existence.

However, the devils didn’t play by the rule. They struck first so they could control the narrative, and the Lycans were too late to realize it.

With the distraction, the devil managed to escape, and then, with what happened in the hotel, they stepped up their game. They controlled the media, and once they succeeded in doing that, they controlled the people too.

They created fear among the people, causing them to distrust each other and question whether they were truly humans or monsters, as the news had been reporting. The fear spread so fast, and now people were suspicious of each other.

"This... is this allowed? How could this be possible?" Seara looked at Zade; she was still holding his hand.

"The devils can conceal themselves well enough among humans, but we can’t use the same method as they do." Zade then looked at Seara. "I will send you..."

"No," Seara cut him off quickly, because she knew exactly what he was going to say. "I am not going anywhere. You will not send me anywhere."

And before Zade could say anything, a doctor and a nurse entered the room. Seara assumed they were shifters, who ran this place, because of the way they moved around Zade. They knew he was the Lycan; thus, they gave him their utmost respect.

"How are you feeling?" The woman asked. She looked sweet and kind as she asked a few questions regarding the wound on her stomach and how she felt in general. She also injected something into her IV drips.

The doctor made a quick check and then reassured Zade that everything would be fine. Seara’s wound was not critical.

After that, the two of them left, and Seara continued what she was saying earlier, as if they had not been interrupted.

"I am not going anywhere, Zade. Do you think if you send me somewhere I will be safe? There is no one who can guarantee that. You can’t guarantee that." Seara felt frustration and anger rising within her, and she looked at Zade intensely. "You are not going to send me anywhere. I stay."

Seara had never been so assertive, but she knew what she wanted. She had experienced those days when she was away from him, and not knowing what he was doing was hell. He kept her out of the plan, thinking it was safer for her that way. But it wasn’t.

"It’s for your own safety." Zade looked unfazed, but he realized there was something changed with his mate.

"You asked me to stay in the hospital, telling me that I would be safe there with Leia and the others, but where do we end up now?" Seara might regret it later with the way she talked to Zade, but she wanted to tell him what she felt.

Seara looked at him. He said nothing, but it didn’t mean he agreed with her; she could see in his eyes that he was still contemplating sending her away.

"Moreover, I am the only person you know who can feel the presence of the devils. Can you imagine what would happen if the devils possessed one of your trusted people and you didn’t know that? What are you going to do then?"

"You have a point." Zade leaned over and kissed her forehead gently. "But I don’t want them to see you as a tool to go against the devils, Seara."

"I want to help. If there is something that I can help you with, I will do it." Seara looked at Zade with desperation. "You need my help, Zade. And you have to admit that."

Even as Seara made that statement, she realized how bold it sounded, and she noticed that Zade slightly raised his eyebrows in surprise.

"No, I mean..." Seara backtracked, because she had to admit that sounded too arrogant. "I mean... I know I can help you fight against the devils... You need my help." She lowered her voice, but this made Zade chuckle.

"Why are you being timid like that? I like your fierceness." Zade kissed her lips. "If you are being a little bit angry, maybe I will agree to let you stay."

Seara pursed her lips. "I stay," she said curtly without giving any room for negotiation.

A week from then, the case about the monster had become a national security threat. The military and the police department would create a new unit to handle the threat.
