"Auction? Which auction are you guys talking about?" Xuan asked, coming down from his elaborate throne and joining us on the floor.

"The one being held by the Spirit Blossom Pavilion."

"You mean Spirit Blossom Court?"

"It’s called Spirit Blossom Court? Who the hell did such a travesty? It’s always a pavilion. PA. VI. LION. Why would anyone holding auctions call themselves a court?" It was maddening.

"It was always a court. Didn’t you hear it from the discussions of those two?" Shaia asked.

"I only heard auction and nothing else."

"Haa... of course you did."

"Umm.. I don’t know where you heard anyone calling it a Spirit Blossom Pavilion, but I can assure you it’s the Spirit Blossom Court." Xuan’s voice drew my attention back towards the ongoing conversation.

"Haa... fine, whatever." Letting out a long breath, I let my frustration go as I answered the man, "Yeah, that one."

"Hmm.. I didn’t think you guys would be going too."

"Wait, you’re going as well?" Salazar asked.

"Yin’er said she wanted a new spirit mount, and I thought I’d get that divine beast egg the court has been promoting all this while."

"Ahh... you’re going for that beast egg too?"

"That’s why anybody of any importance will be going. After all, it’s almost impossible to see any divine beast eggs within these parts of our universe."

"Hmm? Why’s that?"

"Because most divine beasts never leave the Phoenix-Dragoverse. That’s their heaven, their home."

"Huh?" That couldn’t be right. I’ve seen dragons even on Terra, and according to fantasy laws, dragons are normally classified as divine beasts, so,

"You’re probably wondering why I’d say such a thing when there are clearly ’dragons’ and all those things within this universe, right?"

"Yeah, how’d you know?"

"It’s a common misconception. But no, those aren’t dragons; they’re merely creatures with minuscule traces of dragon blood. TRUE dragons and DIVINE dragons only exist in the Phoenix-Dragoverse—they and other relevant divine beasts, of course."

"Then what about the empyrean gryphons that had existed here?"

"You know about those, huh? Well, no one truly knows why the gryphons had taken up shelter within the prime universe. My ancestors, after the gryphons’ departure, had speculated that the creatures were hiding from a threat within the Phoenix-Dragoverse, and only dared return after their then-alpha attained nigh-ascension level strength. The war was merely a catalyst to a decision already settled."

"Hmm... I see." Gotta admit, I wasn’t expecting to hear that all the creatures I’d thought were real divine beasts were merely diluted, extremely diluted, subspecies.

"Wait... doesn’t that mean the dragon tongue the drakens were using wasn’t real?"

"No. That was real dragon tongue. The Calderans have people who have assimilated true and divine dragon bloodlines alongside others, so the dragon tongue they passed down was the real one. Which made it exponentially more difficult for others to actually use. That’s why the drakens could only use one-word commands instead of true speech." Sana clarified.

"I see..." That was quite informative and enlightening. And it made sense. For a language made to interact with reality and give life to commands, what the drakens used, at least the ones I faced, was pathetically weak.

"Okay, now, that leaves only a few more questions, like what the hell is this Phoenix-Dragoverse? This will be what? The fourth time I’m hearing it being mentioned. What’s so special about it, aside from the fact that it’s saturated with scary creatures."

"Well, nothing, except the fact that they’re arguably one of the more powerful universes out there. After all, there exist multiple primordial beasts within that place."

"Uhh... hello?"

"Hey, Xuan, mind saying what you just did again?" I asked, wondering if I’d just misheard something.

"Umm.. I said they’re one of the more powerful universes within our cosmos because multiple primordial beasts reside ther—"

"MOTHERFUCKER!!!!" I exploded.

"YOU’RE TELLING ME THAT I COULD’VE BEEN PUNCHING SOMETHING WORTH HITTING ALL THIS WHILE, AND I WAS HERE WASTING TIME PLAYING YOUNG MASTER SHIN?"

"It’s Young Master Long."

"FUCK YOU, MONKEY!!" I couldn’t believe it.

So primordial beasts were actually within reach, and I’d instead whiled away my time here?

"What reach? Do you even know where the Phoenix-Dragoverse is?" Sana’s question put a stop to my rant, as I couldn’t help but pause.

"Now that you mention it..."

"Hey, Xuan, where’s this Phoenix-Dragoverse located?"

"Oh... that." Snapping out of his stunned state, he replied, "I do know where that universe is located and how to reach there, but there’s no point in going there right now."

"Hmm? Why not?"

"Because the Phoenix-Dragoverse is currently embroiled in a dreadful war."

"War? Overlord races? Don’t tell me, dragons and phoenixes are at war?"

"Yes. The overlord races of the universe had some disagreements, it seemed. I don’t know what, but rumors say it has to do with some arrangements between the current dragon son and phoenix princess. Things fell out due to some reasons, and now the whole universe is embroiled in a terrible war."

"Multiple divine beast clans have already been wiped out from just collateral damage, whilst the surviving clans have started banding behind their chosen overlords. Even forces from the outside have started getting involved. After all, war between divine beasts is prime ground for treasure hunting."

"Why else do you think the Calderans haven’t spared enough of their forces to take me down? It’s because they, like every other cosmic powerhouse, are currently fishing in the very dangerous waters of the Phoenix-Dragoverse."

"Damn... that’s... AWESOME!!!"

"Ehh?"

"Malachi! Paku! Did you just hear what he said?"

"You bet your ass I did! Finally, some exciting news." The monkey was grinning so widely I feared his face might split apart.

As for Paku, the furball was already releasing crimson waves of battle intent as his intentions were clear.

"Hehehehehe... I guess that’s how this Spirit Blossom Court got their hands on a divine beast’s egg as well, huh?"

"Hah! They wish! The Spirit Blossom Court is too weak and fragile to dare fish in such waters. In fact, I wouldn’t dare go there carelessly myself."

"Then...."

"They were entrusted to sell it by some mysterious powerhouse from the outside. Whoever they are, they’re asking for treasures and not money. The event has already attracted multiple powers from all over prime and even outside. After all, a divine beast egg isn’t something to scoff at."

"So what I’m hearing is, this auction is going to be jam-packed with lots of fun characters?"

"Pretty much. I’m not sure I can even get the egg for Yin’er with my own hands, but I can only try."

"Heh! Hehehe.. ahahahahahahahahaha!!!!" I couldn’t help bursting into wild laughter as I heard Xuan speak.

"Oh, what a day!!!" First I find out there’s a universe teeming with fun beasts to push around, then I find out that same universe is currently at war? Gold!

"And as if that wasn’t enough..." The event currently on my table promised an exciting encounter with powers from all over the place.

"Truly... what a day to be alive." My grin widened as I turned to Malachi and Paku.

"Get ready, guys, we’re heading out."

"Heading out to do what?" Paku asked.

"What else but to gather the funds necessary for this auction? After all, they’re trading treasures and not money, so we’ll be needing lots of treasures."

"And where exactly are you going to acquire these treasures?" Shaia asked, clearly skeptical.

"Where else? I’ll just be relieving a few people of their inconvenient treasures. I’m sure they won’t mind, and I know just where to start heh!"

Spirit ascension sect.

"Elder Bai, are the treasures ready?" Shen Wu Zhen asked as he and the elderly man that had just left the throne room a few hours ago approached a large mountain.

"Wu Zhen, are you sure about this?" The old man asked.

"Elder Bai, we need this divine beast egg. No matter what, I need to get it. I could create another divine grade martial spirit with this, or even better. We can’t let this slip between our fingers."

"But, that’s the sect’s accumulated treasures over quite a few generations." The elder reasoned, still not entirely convinced.

"Elder Bai, you worry too much. What’s a few generations worht of treasures if I get my hands on a divine grace martial spirit? Our sects prestige will have reason beyond such trifles by then and we can finally uproot those arrogant Lin family bastards completely." The man answered, eyes flashing with killing intent. He hadn’t forgotten the embarrassment he had been dished at the throne room.

"Just you wait, Lin xuan, this embarrassment I shall pay back tenfold." He thought gleefully before placing his palm on the mountains surface.

Ruuumble!!

The mountain shook as debris and rocks fell off its surface, a jagged crack running up its face as the mountain split apart, revealing a massive black gate behind it.

The sect arrived before the gate, activating some formations and with a deafening crash, the gates opened up,

"Finally, let’s get things—" Shen Wu Zhen’s voice died inside his throat as his eyes trembled.

"Wha.." the elder behind him stood rooted to the ground, eyes widening in disbelief as his words got lost the moment he saw the state of their treasury.

Empty. All of it. All their treasures, Gone. The only thing left within the massive room being a plain sheet of paper that floated diabolically towards the sect master’s face, the words on it imprinting themselves into Wu Zhen’s soul,

"Hehehehe... thank you for your hospitality sect master, I’ll be sure to make good use of these gifts.

Long Chen."

A beat of silence passed before,

BOOOOOMMMMMMM!!!! Wu Zhen’s aura erupted outwards in fury, collapsing the entire mountain as the man roared into the air,

"LIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! XUAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!"
