CEO's Reborn Wife
Chapter 2729 - 2747: Keep Your Distance
"One cannot buy joy with wealth! If you want to brew tea for Miss Lancaster, just use some tea dregs from the bucket, scum with tea dregs, how fitting!" Amber Edwards replied.
President Edwards gave Amber Edwards a sidelong glance, then reached out to toss the thermos back into her arms, ignoring her, and continued brewing tea.
The siblings just bantered as if no one was around, while Emily Lancaster stood nearby, her expression gradually darkening.
Only after the tea was brewed did President Edwards place a cup of tea in the direction where Emily Lancaster was standing, "Miss Lancaster, have some tea."
Emily Lancaster remained still, President Edwards didn’t persuade further, instead, while seemingly pouring tea, suddenly spoke lightly, "Miss Lancaster, if you’re indeed unhappy with our marriage arrangement, you can simply tell me, I’m not set on marrying you. Although I don’t care whom I marry, my wife at least has to be willing to marry me."
"To be honest, while alliances may not be based on emotional foundations, setting aside the notion of matching status, it must at least be mutually willing. If you don’t want to marry, you can tell me. Some Edwards still has the courage to stand up and be the one to refuse. After all, I also care about family harmony and I don’t wish to marry someone who is not at peace living with me at home."
The always seemingly indifferent President Edwards suddenly pierced through that invisible barrier, laying everything bare and speaking to Emily Lancaster in the most straightforward way.
Emily Lancaster was stunned on the spot, Yvette Quick would not be surprised, because in the past she had asked Yvette Quick to help pass on a love letter.
Why does Amber Edwards’s brother also know?
"Don’t be surprised, this circle is really small, Miss Lancaster, it isn’t like no one remembers who you had a secret crush on back then. Although I’ve been in the southland for years, these two years staying in Capital Province, I’ve met a few friends by coincidence, and friends of my friends just happen to be childhood friends of your beloved. Naturally, some things got to my ears."
"Not hiding from Miss Lancaster, back then when I first met you, my friends told me a lot about you knowing I might marry you someday. I know you had a secret crush on someone early in life, that you once had a beloved, though I haven’t paid it any mind. After all, we’ve reached this age, everyone has a past."
"But, Miss Lancaster, I didn’t expect you would use such a method to resist the alliance between the Edwards Family and Lancaster Family. I don’t know if Miss Lancaster simply looks down on some Edwards as a person, or if it’s because your heart still lingers on that beloved. But now, it doesn’t matter at all."
"Our marriage contract has already been dissolved, Miss Lancaster. If there’s nothing else, I think it’s best we don’t meet in the future. After all, having these issues hanging in the air, meeting would be awkward, right? My sister Hannah doesn’t like you either, when you come over, she’s unhappy. So, you’d better not come to the Edwards Clan often."
This whole speech left Amber Edwards completely stunned.
"What nonsense? You even look down on my brother?" Hannah’s little universe ignited, "Emily Lancaster, you’re something else, huh? If you don’t want to marry, just say so, why did you previously act like a good sister-in-law getting along with me? What’s wrong with my brother not matching up to you? What, you think marrying my brother is him stooping to you?"
"Amber Edwards, be quiet." President Edwards’s fingertips tapped in front of Amber Edwards, "When elders are talking, don’t interrupt."
