Chapter 99: Chapter 99: We’ll Take Care of You

Renee Morgan pinpointed the position, but didn’t make a move recklessly.

She turned to the others behind her and calmly spoke: "Watch for my hand signal. You guys take the ropes, climb out the window, follow the route and block the back window of that building in the middle. Set up an ambush and don’t let anyone see you. If they make a move, we close the net."

Them?

That "them" refers to Team Red’s snipers, Hugh and the other sniper?

Damn! That’s some big talk, huge appetite.

The four assault players all exchanged glances, barely suppressing their laughter at the absurdity.

Sigh, girl’s bluffing is actually kinda cute?

Renee Morgan saw they were hesitating and her serious expression turned colder: "I know your mission is to rescue Jay Monroe, but staying here won’t help anyone. If you’re surrounded, none of you will get out. Better to keep an eye on their back window and let me know if anything happens, I’ll do my best to rescue Jay Monroe."

The reason Team Red hasn’t sent anyone to flank them yet is likely for two reasons: one, their target is to hunt Jay Monroe; two, they want to use Jay Monroe as bait, fishing for an even bigger target. They’re well aware of Jay Monroe’s skills and his importance to Team Blue, and Team Blue definitely won’t let him be surrounded.

The four assault members didn’t fully believe Renee Morgan could rescue Jay Monroe one versus two, especially against Team Red’s two snipers, but her logic was impeccable.

Seeing their willingness to cooperate, Renee Morgan got ready and raised her palm, making a downward gesture.

The four assault players made sure there was no ambush below, pulled out their ropes, and slid down from the third floor one after another.

Renee Morgan pressed her earpiece, pulled out her communicator, and connected to Jay Monroe’s channel.

Jay Monroe heard Renee Morgan’s voice and knew she’d arrived. Hearing her plan, he felt a rush of excitement.

His partner might be lower on Combat Power, but she’s definitely gutsy and sharp.

He likes it!

"Got it!" Jay Monroe responded loud and clear, pressed his earpiece, and sprinted with his sniper rifle.

Renee Morgan set up her sniper rifle at the window, laying flat on the ground, her waist arched, holding a tough posture and aiming down the barrel.

This time, Team Red sent out two snipers: Hugh and Jude.

Hugh kept his sights locked on the jungle exit, while Jude watched the front door and stair windows, on guard for Team Blue’s remaining assault players, ready to foil their plans.

Jude soon noticed something unusual at the third floor window across from him,

"Hugh, third floor window across, is that a sniper rifle?" Jude stared through his scope, double-checked, and spoke to Hugh next to him: "Team Blue’s other sniper just appeared."

Hugh had been watching the jungle exit, then raised his cold, sharp brows at those words, glancing at the window opposite. A rifle had been set up over there, but there was no sight of the shooter—probably crouched beneath the window?

Hugh’s cold voice rang out: "Keep watching." Right on cue.

Remembering there were still four assault players in the building, Jude couldn’t split his focus, so Hugh immediately requested backup.

The Team Red commander instantly sent out a small squad of assault players.

Jay Monroe dashed to the jungle exit, found an ambush spot from which he could retreat at any moment, and set up his sniper rifle, aiming it at the front door below Renee Morgan’s building.

Time ticked by, and when Renee Morgan saw a group of red uniforms appear, she immediately notified Jay Monroe: "Jay Monroe, incoming."

Jay Monroe knew he’d expose his position this way; Hugh would instantly lock onto him and try to snipe, but unless this stalemate was broken, he’d just get trapped here.

As Team Red’s assault squad took up position at the front door, preparing to enter, Jay Monroe made his move.

He fired a series of shots, instantly headshotting four enemies. The rest, seeing the ambush, quickly ducked into corners, not daring to peek.

Jay Monroe exposed his location, and Hugh immediately locked onto it, aiming his sniper rifle right at Jay Monroe’s head. One, two, ...

The countdown in his mind hadn’t finished, when a gunshot rang out from above. Hugh sensed danger, cradled his freshly loaded sniper rifle, and dove, rolling to the ground.

Jay Monroe seized the moment, stood up, quickly found a new ambush spot, his poker face intact but secretly giddy—Hugh, oh Hugh, even you get to taste this today.

Ha-ha! Feels awesome!

Hugh picked himself up off the ground, dropped to one knee, glaring furiously at Jude’s back with a frosty tone: "Jude, I said watch the shooter!"

He’d almost gotten his head blown off, yet Jude was standing around like an idiot, saying nothing.

Jude also looked totally bewildered at that moment: "Not my fault, Hugh! The other side never showed themselves—how am I supposed to shoot?"

The livestream captured everything, crystal clear, just now.

Team Red’s assault squad was about to storm Renee Morgan’s front door.

Jay Monroe, posted at the jungle’s edge, instantly headshot four of Team Red’s players the moment they showed up.

Hugh fixed Jay Monroe’s position and tried to snipe, but Renee Morgan got the jump on him, firing first. It didn’t blow Hugh’s head off, but gave Jay Monroe the chance to escape, dodging right out of Hugh’s crosshairs.

The livestream camera still showed Renee Morgan lying flat on the ground, arched waist—this explains why Jude, Team Red’s other sniper, kept hearing gunshots but never saw anyone.

Renee Morgan managed to take that shot at Hugh, using that ridiculously tough posture.

For a second, the noisy livestream seemed frozen. No one broke that eerie calm.

They all knew Renee Morgan’s shooting scores were good, but watching her pull off this series of moves, flipping Team Red from an advantage to total disarray—all of them were floored.

The leaderboard on the small camera was updating: Team Blue’s Jay Monroe was first, total score 5, one point ahead of Hugh.

The chat finally snapped back to reality, remembering what The Boxing King Taylor had said about the top Merrick mercenary group they met in the base woods...

[Renee Morgan’s not secretly some god-tier player trolling, is she?]

[Hey, I just came in from another site—there’s a leak saying Jay Monroe and Hugh are legendary in F-State and Astoria. Legendary, you know what I mean...]

[We don’t know!! Spill it, what’s up? Hurry up, we need details!]

[Seems military||arms-related—not really above board stuff, I don’t know the details.]

[Holy shit!! Now that’s sick. Never thought I’d catch these big bosses live, just chilling in this channel. 666.]

[Wait... Renee Morgan almost blasted Hugh’s head off, right?]

[Pfft! BOSS? Our Renee never backs down!]

[Go, Renee! If you lose your waist in Merrick State, we’ll support you! We’ll crowdfund your welfare!]

No waist... we’ll support you... crowdfund for welfare, support you...

[...] Almost got me tearing up.

[Renee Morgan: Listen up, fans. Thank you—life on welfare is beautiful thanks to you.]
