Cast as the Foil, She Went Viral on a Military Reality Show
Chapter 100: Wasn’t He Supposed to Be No Threat?
Chapter 100: Chapter 100: Wasn’t He Supposed to Be No Threat?
Overseas netizens got the scoop before those in mainland China—they already know Hugh and Jay Monroe’s identities.
Even if the leaks aren’t reliable, their skills are so insane, none of that shady background stuff matters. They’re still gods of the field.
And in this showdown, Renee Morgan didn’t become cannon fodder—in fact, she nearly blew Hugh’s head off. That’s pretty damn impressive.
[Of course it’s Renee! As soon as she shows up, she’s sniping the big boss from Astoria.]
[What "Big Boss Astoria"? In front of Renee, they’re just little bros, okay? Suggest renaming him to "Astoria Little Bro."]
[Hey, uh... you sure you don’t wanna delete that? There’s been a ton of drama about Hugh lately—big bosses have pretty bad tempers.]
[Astoria Little Bro is at the base division, he’s gonna pay attention to me?]
[You never know—the big boss has a pack of little bros everywhere, all over the globe. Astoria, North Face... and they’re all hip-shot experts. For all you know, a hacker’s already locked onto your ID, blades ready—on the way to your home right now...]
[Sorry to bother, I’m outta here.]
Instant delete, instant log-off.
Chinese netizens: [...]
What hip-shot experts? Just a few days and their Chinese is not only maxed out, it’s like, advanced level now?
Also, what’s up with overseas net now? Full of crooks, threatening people like it’s a routine.
Hugh picked himself up off the ground, looked back at the jungle entrance. Nobody left, Jay Monroe was already gone.
Damn it!
Hugh shot Jude a cold glance.
Jude: "..."
Hugh took a deep breath and, after calming himself, just said, "You keep an eye on Jay Monroe."
Jude blinked—so now he’s gotta personally watch the sniper hiding in the opposing building?
Wait... wasn’t that guy "not a threat"?
Hugh and Jude swapped positions, set up the high-mag scope, and carefully watched the opposing windows.
Surprisingly, for all this time, nothing’s moved?
Hugh’s narrowed eyes flashed coldly—turns out the guy’s got serious patience.
Jude kept watch on the jungle entrance, then saw Hugh suddenly get up, gun slung as he was about to leave, so he quickly called out: "Where are you going?"
Hugh threw out a chilly reply: "Going to catch someone."
Renee Morgan heard word from the assault team—Hugh actually went downstairs through the back window, most likely to catch her, just like she predicted.
Since the assault team’s able to report back, Hugh probably hasn’t noticed them.
"Make sure he doesn’t double back. You guys head back upstairs—there’s another sniper up there." Renee Morgan cut her comm, then joined Jay Monroe’s: "Hugh’s after me."
Got him?
When did Hugh get so impatient?
Jay Monroe frowned, but couldn’t help it—a bright smile tugged at his lips and his eyes lit up.
One, two, three...
Jay Monkroe quietly counted seconds, then heard an update from the assault team, followed by a single gunshot. He looked up at the rooftop—originally two gun barrels pointing from there, but after Hugh left, only one remained, now the other one pulled back too.
Hugh went after Renee Morgan.
Praying Mantis hunts cicada.
Right after Hugh walked off, the assault team waiting by their back window went upstairs to ambush the other Team Red sniper.
Oriole waits in the wings.
Jay Monroe was free again.
If only the timing was right, Jay Monroe would love to throw his head back and laugh—ha ha ha! Hugh thinks he’s so smart, so careful, but in the end a little girl played him like a fiddle.
Hugh heard Jude get ambushed, barely escaped with his life, so obviously couldn’t keep an eye on Jay Monroe anymore.
He stopped in his tracks, figured it all out fast. The assault team that went upstairs to ambush Jude must’ve been waiting downstairs for ages—only moved when Hugh left.
But how could they be so sure he’d go after Renee?
Hugh’s target had always been both Team Blue snipers: Jay Monroe mattered, but the hidden sniper was important too.
The enemy must’ve figured out his plan—used themselves as bait, lured him out, and had a backup plan to ambush Jude. Jay Monroe’s deadlock broke.
Hugh took a deep breath, hung the rope meant for climbing back onto his belt, grabbed his comm, connected with Team Red’s assault squad and ordered a retreat.
But then he heard a few gunshots from their side and, right after, the earpiece picked up a defeated voice.
Team Red assault: "Too late, we’re surrounded."
Hugh stashed the comm, picked up his sniper rifle, and charged over.
Jay Monroe already left the jungle. Hearing Hugh was after Renee Morgan, he hauled his sniper gun and headed over. Team Red still had some assault squad members, but knowing there was a sniper nearby, they hid in a corner, afraid to do anything reckless.
When Jay Monroe showed up, Renee Morgan came downstairs just in time. The two boxed in the assault team.
The assault squad had rifles and were brutal at close range, but compared to stealthy, dead-on snipers, their disadvantage was obvious. When they tried to hit back, they didn’t even know where to aim—left just watching helplessly as their teammates got headshot one by one.
Renee Morgan had just put down her sniper rifle when she heard blank rounds fired overhead—looked up to see Jay Monroe rolling on the ground, dodging a burst of gunfire.
She quickly darted into a corner, aimed her gun toward the direction of the shots, but didn’t spot anyone for ages.
Definitely a sniper good at hiding.
Was it Hugh?
Renee Morgan gripped her sniper rifle tight, barely breathing.
But Hugh knew the situation was lost and turned to retreat.
Jay Monroe scrambled up from the ground, dashed over to Renee Morgan, gasping for breath, nervously pawing at his helmet, still not totally sure: "Am I dead? Is there smoke?"
Renee Morgan: "..."
Jay Monroe finally took off his helmet, saw there wasn’t smoke, and sighed in relief.
Renee Morgan kept eyes on the corner from before—ready to shoot the second someone showed.
Jay Monroe strapped his helmet back on and started swapping magazines.
The two waited quite a while, saw that nothing moved outside, then cautiously crept out with guns raised. They checked the area, confirmed no ambushers, shared a glance, and silently picked a direction to retreat.
The mechanical tally from their earpieces had long started:
"Team Blue sniper Jay Monroe, +2 points, total 7."
"Team Blue sniper Renee Morgan, +2 points."
The scoreboard in the livestream jumped—Team Blue’s Jay Monroe led with seven, Team Red’s Hugh had four, Team Blue’s Renee Morgan was third with two. Team Blue on top overall.
All those people who doubted Renee Morgan in the stream? Absolutely slapped in the face.
Turns out, not only does Renee have what it takes as a sniper—she’s got guts and smarts. This round, Hugh narrowly lost to Renee Morgan.
[Jay Monroe and Hugh’s skills are neck and neck, but gotta admit, Jay Monroe is definitely luckier. He’s got MVP Renee carrying hard—just lays there waiting for his teammate to rescue him, then picks off six kills like a scavenger. 666...]
