Chapter 66: Chapter 66: Rescue

Renee Morgan was moved deep down, and felt even more determined to save them.

She gripped the torch and moved to the front. Suddenly, she sped up, leveraging her body to roll a few times on the ground, tumbling right into the middle of the wolf pack, swinging her torch toward the back of a wolf’s neck.

It was a classic Merrick wolf, its fur long and jet-black, not a single stray strand, and Renee’s torch ignited the fur on its neck, flames spreading to its back, burning the skin behind its neck and back. It howled with a miserable, piercing scream from the pain, loosening its jaws from the human it was biting, rolling on the ground, trying to put out the fire.

The other wolves saw this and stared warily at Renee, crouching low, their bodies tense, ready to spring.

Renee repeated the trick to save another person. When she turned her head, dozens of wolves were already eyeing her hungrily.

The two big guys were injured; otherwise, KO-ing the wolf pack would’ve still been possible.

At the moment, their arms and thighs were marked with wolf teeth, dripping blood, curses flying nonstop.

Finally, someone noticed that their rescuer was actually an old acquaintance.

"Renee Morgan?" Taylor clutched his bleeding arm, edging closer. When he saw it really was her, joy exploded in his eyes: "It really is you! You’re actually so badass."

He looked like a monkey in a zoo who just encountered a top-tier expert.

The viewers looked at The Boxing King’s big white teeth, then at his bloody wound. He really doesn’t care about pain, huh?

"Save your breath, get out of my way." Renee’s hand holding the torch trembled slightly. Right now, the priority was driving this pack of wolves away.

Taylor knocked on his own head, obediently stopped moving.

Viewers: [...]

This must be the first person ever to talk to The Boxing King that way!

Why does this feel so damn hype?

Renee knew she couldn’t afford to be distracted or show weakness, or the wolves would seize the chance to attack and probably tear her apart alive.

If they’re not moving now, it’s good, but it could turn bad—if they decide she’s not their match, they’ll pounce.

She couldn’t lose on aura!

Renee grabbed two torches, widened her stance, and struck the most intimidating martial arts pose. The two torches were like fists, ready to strike at any moment, her beautiful almond eyes now sharp, fierce, locked in a deadly stare with the wolves.

The wolf pack stepped forward, and so did she, eyes unwavering, fixed on them.

The wolves stopped moving, glanced at each other, and after over a minute, started backing away, slowly retreating, soon vanishing from sight.

Zayed and Sean hadn’t found a chance to make a move, and only let out a sigh of relief when they saw the wolves withdraw.

Taylor’s face showed none of the pain from earlier, now looking energized as he stared at Renee: "We just got back, they were hiding in the tent and ambushed us. Otherwise, there’s no way they’d have bitten me."

He spoke while pounding his chest, clearly pissed—these wolves must’ve been starving for ages. As soon as one clamped onto his arm, it wouldn’t let go. He had to dodge other wolves’ attacks, couldn’t really fight back, hence the disadvantage.

Taylor rambled on for ages before he realized something was wrong: "What’s up with you? Renee, you okay?"

"..." He’s so noisy, it’s giving her a headache.

She was soaked in sweat, torch scorching her hand, burning her cheek with pain, but her limbs were stiff, unable to move.

Zayed and Sean sensed something was off, rushed over and took the torch from her hands, and helped her sit down.

Taylor and Brown squeezed closer, their bold, direct gazes and big white teeth like giant beasts about to swallow you up.

Zayed and Sean wanted to back off, but worried Renee would be at a disadvantage, so they just squatted low, trying to shrink their presence.

Renee rested for a while, regained some strength, then looked at Taylor and Brown: "Why are there just two of you today?"

Judging from last night’s robbery, the wolves shouldn’t be able to take a bite out of them at all.

Taylor went on and on, basically saying they split up today, but by evening, only he and Brown returned. Just happened to run into the wolves lurking in the tent, got ambushed and bitten because they were caught off guard.

Renee: "Why didn’t you make a fire?"

If the wolf pack was hiding in the tent, they should have started a fire before heading back for rest.

Taylor: "We ran out of firewood, came back late, didn’t have time to gather more."

Renee fell silent. No wonder they were ambushed by the wolves—in pitch darkness, crawling right into the tent. Lucky the bites weren’t on their necks.

Renee looked at their injuries, wanted to ask if they’d consider leaving now, but seeing how casually they pulled out disinfectant and bandages for their wounds, she stayed quiet.

Just as Renee was about to leave, Taylor and Brown piped up: "Renee, you haven’t answered my question yet: are you really that tough?"

The answer was pretty obvious after watching her drive off the wolves, but Taylor and Brown still wanted Renee to admit it herself.

Renee looked a little helpless—how are they still thinking of fighting at a time like this: "Not really, just a few small tricks."

Taylor and Brown were visibly disappointed, though they clearly didn’t believe Renee’s words.

Renee looked at their pitiful state, then glanced around at the pitch-black surroundings. If those wolves came back and attacked while everyone was asleep, they could actually die out here.

Renee and Zayed, Sean led Taylor and Brown back to the tent, and the others—Miles Yates and his team—had lost patience waiting. Everyone was about to head out with two torches each to look for them, but when they heard the commotion and saw the group return, their faces showed both surprise and shock.

"Renee, how come you brought them back?" Zara Chapman asked, fear evident on her face.

Wendy Aldridge was scared too, but sensed the atmosphere between Renee and Taylor, Brown was pretty friendly, so she didn’t react much.

This time Zayed stepped in to explain: "They were bitten by wolves, so tonight they’ll stay here with us."

They weren’t entirely safe either, but having Taylor and Brown with them in the dark, away from the beasts, was way better than being alone out there.

Taylor and Brown flashed their big white teeth, greeting everyone in turn.

"Hey, I’m..."

"Hey, I’m..."

Lynn Miller was forced to stick out her hand to shake theirs, but then remembered something and stared at them wide-eyed: "Your names are the same as The Boxing King?"

Lynn wasn’t a boxing fan, but when entering the base’s forest, she’d vaguely remembered a couple names from the huge poster she’d passed.

Taylor: "..."

Brown: "..."

Trying hard not to laugh, Taylor grinned and replied: "Is it possible that we are The Boxing King?"
