Chapter 146: Movie

There were several rooms along the hallway, each with a door.

Lu Yucai nodded and moved forward like a trained soldier. He carefully opened the first door and looked inside.

Only after confirming that there was no danger did he allow Ni Mengxue to enter.

The room was surprisingly spacious.

It had a large living room with a television, warm yellow lighting, a soft fur rug covering part of the floor, several shelves, and potted green plants placed around the room.

There was even a large window showing a beautiful outdoor scene.

Lu Yucai narrowed his eyes. ’That view is probably fake.’

He carefully examined the room before finally relaxing.

Ni Mengxue, however, had already walked over to the sofa and sat down.

The fresh air inside the underground room made her feel much more refreshed, and the fatigue she had accumulated over the past few days seemed to ease slightly.

She leaned back and rested.

Lu Yucai didn’t.

He continued exploring the underground facility, carefully checking every room before allowing Ni Mengxue to approach.

At the same time, he was secretly amazed by the sheer size and luxury of the place. This wasn’t simply a hidden room.

It was practically an underground residence.

One of the rooms even contained a fully equipped private theatre.

Suddenly, a memory surfaced in Lu Yucai’s mind.

It was a very distinct memory, one he had never expected to recall again.

Once, he and Song Yan had stood outside a private theatre, peeking through the glass because the window offered a partial view of the screen inside.

They had watched a movie from outside. At the time, Song Yan had stared at the theatre with fascination.

"One day, I’ll definitely become rich enough to own a theatre like this."

Young Lu Yucai had thought it was a foolish dream.

’People like us can’t become rich unless we have some extraordinary talent or an exceptional opportunity.’

Lu Yucai had neither. His best friend, however, had always been handsome and confident.

Back then, Lu Yucai had secretly envied Song Yan because he believed his friend would eventually use his appearance and charm to climb higher in life.

Meanwhile, Lu Yucai thought he would have to rely solely on his physical strength and hard work.

Now, standing inside this luxurious private theatre, a strange emotion welled up inside him.

He cautiously walked in and sat on one of the sofas facing the enormous projection screen.

The sofa was covered in soft, high-quality leather with thick cushioning that sank slightly beneath his weight. Its armrests were smooth and polished, and even the stitching looked flawless.

The projector was equally impressive.

The large screen had an elegant black frame, while the surrounding walls were decorated with subtle gold-coloured accents that reflected the warm yellow lighting.

One glance was enough to tell Lu Yucai that everything in this room was extremely expensive.

’Even if I had saved money my entire life, I probably couldn’t have afforded a place like this.’

Just as he was thinking that, Ni Mengxue suddenly rushed over. "Look what I found!"

She waved several CDs in front of him.

Lu Yucai blinked. "Do these CDs have movies?"

Ni Mengxue walked up to him. "Of course."

She handed them to him. "Go put one into the projector. I want to watch a movie."

Lu Yucai stared at the CD. This was his first time operating such equipment, so he awkwardly searched for the place to insert it.

After watching him struggle for a while, Ni Mengxue couldn’t help laughing.

"Move aside."

She took the CD from him and inserted it herself. Then she looked at him with a sly smile.

"Since I’m doing all the work, shouldn’t I get some kind of salary? Otherwise, won’t I look like the person doing everything while you enjoy all the benefits in our relationship?"

Lu Yucai scratched his head awkwardly. "All right. How much do you want?"

Ni Mengxue smiled. "No rush. Let’s watch the movie first."

She started the movie.

At first, Lu Yucai found the plot rather strange.

It was about a woman who repeatedly made advances toward her boyfriend while the man remained completely oblivious to her feelings.

However, she successfully won him over and started her brilliant career.

The man was thrilled; however, the scheming second male lead started to call him unfit for the female lead.

The man at first fought back, but the scheming second male lead created misunderstandings and even incited him.

Eventually, the man became overwhelmed by his own insecurities and suggested that they break up.

The woman calmly agreed.

Lu Yucai’s expression immediately changed. A strange sense of unease settled over him.

He turned toward Ni Mengxue. "I don’t want to watch this movie anymore."

She shook her head. "No. Let’s continue."

Lu Yucai pursed his lips. For some reason, his hand tightened around the armrest.

The movie continued.

Years later, the woman became a successful entrepreneur. The man saw her success on television and regretted his decision.

He murmured about how he should have held on to her and shouldn’t have allowed his insecurities to drive her away.

Lu Yucai immediately turned toward Ni Mengxue. "Are you trying to warn me with this movie?"

Ni Mengxue only gave him a mysterious smile.

However, the scene suddenly changed. The man wasn’t sitting in some rundown apartment watching television.

He was actually imprisoned in an underground room.

The revelation left Lu Yucai speechless.

The movie then took an absurdly dark turn, showing that the woman had imprisoned him because of his earlier decision to leave her.

She would return to sleep with him each day, marry him forcefully, and even have the second male lead behind the prison.

The male lead eventually told her that he loved her, but the female lead was insecure to the point that she thought it was all a lie the male lead was telling to escape her clutches.

The movie ended on an open-ended scene where the female lead starts to kiss the male lead.

Lu Yucai’s expression became increasingly complicated. A chill ran down his spine.

He slowly turned toward Ni Mengxue. She was looking at him with a faint smile.
