Chapter 145: Hidden Room

She slapped him hard across the face.

Nan Wu froze.

However, he quickly recovered. In this world, it wasn’t unusual for men to endure such treatment, and he had long grown accustomed to swallowing his humiliation.

"Miley, please try to understand..."

"Fuck you!" Miley stomped her foot. "I asked you to help me, and you’re actually trying to reason with me! You know what? I’ll divorce you within the next thirty days. A man like you doesn’t deserve a woman like me!"

With that, she turned around and stormed away.

The people nearby couldn’t help but point at Nan Wu.

Nan Wu lowered his head in shame. He felt embarrassed, but he didn’t blame anyone.

Lu Yucai had watched everything from the side.

He wheeled himself over and said, "If I were in your place, I would have left her."

Nan Wu gave him a bitter smile.

"She wasn’t like this before."

Lu Yucai paused before speaking softly.

"Does that matter? Love the people who love you. Forget those who think you’re beneath them. Otherwise, if you don’t learn to love yourself, you’ll be the one who gets lost in the end."

With those words, he wheeled himself away.

Nan Wu stared at the ground and murmured,

"But is it really that easy to forget love? If something can be forgotten that easily, then perhaps it wasn’t love in the first place."

Meanwhile, Lu Yucai soon found Ni Mengxue.

She was working on one of the buildings when she heard the familiar sound of his wheelchair approaching.

She immediately turned around and smiled. "How was the tour? Do you like this base?"

Lu Yucai nodded enthusiastically.

"It’s the best place. It feels just like home. Honestly, whoever built this base is a genius."

Ni Mengxue’s cheeks turned slightly red. She knelt in front of him and leaned close to his ear.

"This is my base."

Lu Yucai’s heart thumped loudly.

It wasn’t the secret itself that affected him. It was the way she had leaned so close to him when she whispered it.

Ni Mengxue continued in a teasing voice, "Lu Yucai, let’s consummate our marriage."

Lu Yucai’s entire face turned red. He subconsciously looked away.

"Why are you saying that?"

A mischievous glint flashed through Ni Mengxue’s eyes.

She chuckled.

"For no reason. I keep seeing beautiful eye candy in front of me, but I can’t even have a bite. Do you know how starved I feel?"

Lu Yucai’s face became even redder. Suddenly, he blurted out, "Bo Xinli!"

Ni Mengxue’s smile disappeared. She looked at him in confusion.

Her heart was thumping.

’Bo Xinli? Could it be my Xinli?’

She subconsciously glanced toward the doorway.

There was no one there. She turned back toward Lu Yucai.

He was staring at a man nearby who bore a slight resemblance to Bo Xinli.

Among all of Ni Mengxue’s husbands, Lu Yucai had shared one of his closest relationships with Bo Xinli.

Bo Xinli had been the one who promised to investigate the orphanage director’s whereabouts. He had even provided Lu Yucai with some information before the two of them became close.

He had been a genuinely good person.

So when Lu Yucai noticed someone who looked vaguely similar, he had called out his name without thinking.

After coming back to his senses, he looked at Ni Mengxue and shook his head. "Nothing. Let’s find a room."

Ni Mengxue nodded and led him away.

They soon arrived at Room 301, located on the first floor of the third building.

The room looked ordinary. However, Ni Mengxue placed a finger against her lips.

"Keep this a secret. We’re going underground."

She walked toward one corner of the room.

Unlike the other rooms, there was no cupboard there.

Ni Mengxue had deliberately left the space empty.

This underground room was a special construction reward she had received from the system after completing the construction of 10 buildings.

She hadn’t even known such a reward existed until the system offered her a secret room and allowed her to choose its location.

She had immediately decided to hide it beneath room no. 301.

After making sure Lu Yucai was beside her, she tapped the floor twice.

The ground suddenly shifted.

A hidden platform appeared beneath them, and the two of them slowly descended underground.

Lu Yucai instinctively stood up from his wheelchair and pulled Ni Mengxue into his arms to protect her.

Ni Mengxue’s heart skipped a beat. A huge smile quickly spread across her face.

She leaned closer and playfully bit his chest through his clothes.

Lu Yucai stared at her in surprise.

Ni Mengxue smiled mischievously. "You’re so protective of me, hubby."

Lu Yucai’s ears immediately turned red.

He could still feel the spot where she had bitten him grow warm, and his heartbeat seemed to grow faster.

He quickly looked away. "Is there something underneath this place?"

Ni Mengxue nodded and gave him a meaningful smile.

Lu Yucai relaxed. "All right, then. If it’s your plan, I’m sure it’ll be fine."

Soon, the hidden elevator reached the bottom.

The doors opened, revealing a completely dark room.

Ni Mengxue held Lu Yucai’s arm and was about to step out when he suddenly stopped her.

"Let me lead."

Ni Mengxue knew that this place was safe, but seeing how seriously Lu Yucai was taking his responsibility, she grinned.

"All right. I am a little scared after all. With this system, who knows what kind of strange prank it might pull on me?"

Lu Yucai nodded while holding her hand.

It was obvious that he was nervous, but he wasn’t afraid that something might suddenly jump out at them.

He was afraid that he wouldn’t be strong enough to protect Ni Mengxue.

The moment they both stepped into the dark room, the lights flickered on.

A long hallway stretched ahead of them, with passages leading to both sides.

Ni Mengxue pointed toward the right. "Let’s go and explore that side."
