Cannon Fodder In Apocalypse: I Rule With Sanctuary Evolution System
Chapter 144: Miley And Nan Wu
Just as Lu Yucai was strolling through the base, his eyes fell on a kiosk.
He wheeled himself toward it, and the people gathered around the kiosk instinctively moved aside to make way for him.
Miley was standing at the front, watching the machines process the items she had purchased for her husbands.
Her beautiful emerald hair was let loose and paired with a white floral dress, she attracted a lot of attention.
When she heard the sound of wheels approaching, she turned around.
The moment she saw Lu Yucai, she froze.
"Lu Yucai..."
Lu Yucai recognised her immediately as well.
His expression turned cold, and he looked away.
Miley clenched her fists before forcing out a mocking laugh.
"Well, well, if it isn’t the heartthrob of our college. I thought you had married some big shot, considering how you rejected me back then."
Her eyes swept over his wheelchair.
"But looking at how pathetic you’ve become, I suppose the woman you married wouldn’t even look in your direction for more than ten seconds."
Lu Yucai ignored her.
He simply waited for her to finish talking and leave.
However, Miley was overwhelmed by years of emotions.
She had never been rejected before. She was beautiful, came from a wealthy family, and, despite her short temper and tendency to become controlling, she considered herself charming and likable.
During college, she had fallen for Lu Yucai when he was a poor scholarship student.
To her, they were a perfect match.
He was poor while she was wealthy. He was calm and reserved while she was hot-tempered. It felt like something straight out of a romance novel.
She often followed him around, bought things for him, and tried to take care of him.
Yet Lu Yucai had never appreciated any of it. He simply ignored her.
Miley convinced herself that he was merely playing hard to get.
After getting engaged to her fiancé, Robert, she finally gathered the courage to confess to Lu Yucai.
She even promised that after they married, she would take care of the orphanage he supported and donate five million dollars to it in his name.
Instead, Lu Yucai rejected her in front of the entire college.
It became one of the most humiliating moments of her life.
She was so ashamed that she didn’t leave her house for five days.
When she finally returned to college, Lu Yucai had already joined the military. That only made her even angrier.
Now, seeing him sitting in a wheelchair, Miley finally felt a twisted sense of satisfaction.
’This is what you get for rejecting me.’
She believed he deserved it.
Lu Yucai, however, felt no sympathy whatsoever.
Miley had been a nightmare during his college years.
She had always viewed their relationship through the lens of some domineering romance novel.
Once, when he was applying for a scholarship, she cancelled his application without asking and told him she would simply pay for his education.
He had firmly refused.
"I don’t need your charity. I can earn the scholarship myself."
Instead of understanding him, Miley had looked at him confidently and said, "I’m pursuing you. I’ll pay for your college. Don’t you dare reject me."
Lu Yucai hadn’t felt even the slightest bit of romance.
He had only felt as though he were being buried under favours he had never asked for.
Later on, she forgot to fund his school, but thankfully he never depended on her and had already applied to other scholarship.
Things became worse when Miley started introducing him to her male friends because she believed he was lonely.
Those men eventually ruined all five of his part-time jobs. They were jealous that Miley was paying attention to a loser like him.
The owners of nearby shops became too frightened to hire him because they feared Miley’s friends would cause trouble, just as they had done at his previous workplaces.
When Lu Yucai complained to Miley, she confidently told him, "I’ll take a stand for you."
She confronted those men and warned them.
Yet afterward, she turned around and threw a party for the same five people.
Eventually, all five began pursuing Miley.
To Lu Yucai’s disbelief, she accepted every one of them while continuing to chase after him.
That experience completely destroyed his patience.
When Miley eventually proposed to him, he rejected her without hesitation and cut off all contact.
While Miley was away, her five admirers, her fiancé, and several others even joined forces to make his life miserable.
Lu Yucai had nearly been forced to drop out of college.
Unwilling to let that happen, he applied to join the military and finally escaped the mess.
Therefore, whenever he saw Miley, he felt nothing except disgust.
Even now, his expression remained cold.
Seeing that Lu Yucai wasn’t responding, Miley suddenly shouted, "Nan Wu! Come here and support your girlfriend! Someone is bullying me!"
A young man working nearby immediately looked over.
Nan Wu was a construction worker in Fair Shallow Land and a small team leader in the carpentry workshop.
He earned a decent salary, and because of his position, he had also helped Miley and several of her husbands find jobs within the base.
He was constantly pulling strings behind the scenes to help Miley.
Among all her husbands, Nan Wu could be considered one of the most useful to her and the one she paid the most attention to.
Nan Wu rushed over; his forehead was glistening with sweat.
He was fair-skinned, with a lean, muscular build and a charming face.
Miley immediately pointed at Lu Yucai.
"This man is the one who rejected me during college. Take revenge on my behalf."
Nan Wu looked at Lu Yucai.
However, instead of immediately bullying him, he calmly studied the man sitting in the wheelchair.
Instead, Nan Wu leaned closer to Miley and whispered,
"Miley, you’re embarrassing yourself. If the base leader sees you behaving like this, he’ll think you’re petty-minded. Let’s leave it for now. I’ll talk to this man and find out why he rejected you. Maybe there was some kind of misunderstanding, or perhaps he already likes someone else."
Miley’s expression immediately turned furious.
