Cannon Fodder In Apocalypse: I Rule With Sanctuary Evolution System
Chapter 143: Yao Hu
Right in front of them, ten buildings suddenly rose from the ground.
For a moment, everyone was speechless.
Yao Hu stared at the buildings in shock, unable to believe his eyes. Before he could say anything, his entire body was shaken by his friend He Hao.
"Yao Hu! You have developed a power! You have finally awakened a superpower!" He Hao shouted excitedly. "Now you can wish for whatever you want, and it will come true! Please wish for something for me too!"
Hearing that, Yao Hu immediately closed his eyes and clasped his hands together.
"Give me a lot of zombie crystals. I want one million. No, ten billion zombie crystals! Give them to me! Give them to me!"
Nothing happened.
Yao Hu opened one eye and looked around. Still nothing.
He Hao fell silent as well. After a moment, he cautiously said, "Yao Hu, maybe it was just a fluke."
"No way!" Yao Hu refused to believe him. "It must be some kind of divine power. The God has finally responded to my prayers and all my efforts. You know what? I will continue praying to God. I will make sure this entire base is filled with enough rooms for everyone!"
The next second, another ten buildings appeared nearby. Yao Hu froze.
He Hao was stunned. They looked at each other before simultaneously screaming. "There really is a power!"
Yao Hu immediately became excited. "I am a god! I am a god! As long as I say that a room should be built, it will be built immediately!"
Ni Mengxue, who was standing outside, silently watched the screen.
Her heart was bleeding. ’Those buildings cost me a huge amount of Merit Points.’
She had used the system’s quick-building function because she couldn’t possibly reveal that she had brought more than a thousand people to a base with barely a hundred rooms.
’At least they won’t think that the base is too shabby and leave.’
Just as she was trying to console herself, the system notification appeared. [Congratulations! You have gained 50,000 Merit Points.]
Ni Mengxue was stunned. "Fifty thousand?"
She immediately checked the system.
She had received fifty Merit Points for every person who had entered Fair Shallow Land.
Her eyes instantly brightened. ’I’ve recovered most of what I spent.’
A smile appeared on her face. ’Once everyone falls asleep tonight, I’ll properly restructure the entire base. After that, I’ll have them recruit even more people.’
While she was thinking about the future development of Fair Shallow Land, one of the women, Min Ju, suddenly pointed ahead.
"Look! There’s a cafeteria over there. Let’s go and check it out!"
Everyone immediately rushed toward it.
However, they were stopped by Xiong Tan.
Xiong Tan had been responsible for guarding Fair Shallow Land for the past two weeks. Seeing such a massive influx of people arrive all at once, he was clearly displeased.
He had not expected the base to suddenly bring in more than a thousand people.
Just as he was about to question them, Ni Mengxue stepped forward with a smile.
"I am the representative of Fair Shallow Land. I was assigned by the system to recruit people from outside the base. You can consider me the recruiter responsible for this group."
Xiong Tan looked at her. At first glance, he was struck by her appearance.
Her purple hair was beautiful and unusual, while her features were striking enough to attract attention wherever she went. More importantly, there was a unique aura around her that made it difficult to look away.
However, that was where his thoughts ended. He did not develop any other feelings toward her.
Instead, he calmly said, "Miss, whoever you are, let’s begin with introductions. My name is Xiong Tan, and I am the leader here."
Ni Mengxue nodded and introduced herself, "Hello, I am Ni Mengxue."
"The system already informed me about you."
Xiong Tan continued, "I’ve been guarding this place for the past two weeks, so your sudden arrival has caught me completely off guard. I’ll make this clear first. Everyone needs to create an identity card. We’ll conduct a background verification before allowing anyone to officially settle here."
Ni Mengxue was impressed by his methodical approach. ’It seems I didn’t make the wrong choice by letting him manage this place.’
He clearly understood what needed to be done.
"That’s fine. Proceed with the verification." Ni Mengxue cooperated.
Everyone was asked to submit their information.
Of course, there was no way to complete a proper background check on more than a thousand people within a few minutes. Therefore, they were given temporary passes one by one so they could enter while their information was being verified.
The crowd quickly moved inside.
Min Ju, Mimi, Rose, and Willow eventually sat together in a circle.
The four women exchanged glances.
It was obvious that none of them particularly liked the others.
Meanwhile, the remaining nine hundred and ninety-six people gathered around and talked among themselves.
The cafeteria wasn’t large enough to accommodate everyone at once, so they were forced to line up.
Xiong Tan was responsible for keeping order.
Ni Mengxue first examined the cafeteria.
It was a clean and well-lit place with simple walls and a long counter for ordering food.
A large panel displayed the available meals and their prices in points.
After paying with the points on their temporary cards, the selected food would immediately appear on the counter.
Everyone was stunned. Some suspected that a space user was responsible for storing and producing the food.
Others even whispered that there might be a powerful person hidden somewhere inside the cafeteria, controlling everything.
However, what shocked them the most was the point system.
They were required to exchange their zombie crystals for points before they could purchase anything.
Many people were immediately uneasy.
Ginger was especially suspicious. He tugged on Giga’s clothes and whispered,
"Are you sure this base isn’t some kind of scam? Why are they using points instead of zombie crystals like every other base? I even wonder if they will just take away all our crystals and pretend we were never here."
Giga directly slapped the back of Ginger’s head.
"Stop thinking about such nonsense. It’s no wonder you haven’t been able to find a girlfriend."
He pointed toward Ni Mengxue.
"Look at that woman. She is the most dependable person here. From the way she operates, it’s obvious that she is familiar with everything around this place. Follow her, and you won’t suffer."
"As for the points, maybe that’s simply how this base operates. We shouldn’t worry about it. Instead, we should take this as a chance to change our lives."
He paused before continuing, "There are also missions here. Did you notice the mission area when we were coming in? I saw many people taking missions. Did we ever have an opportunity like that in Silent Knight Base?"
Ginger fell silent.
Giga continued,
"Not only that, I’ve noticed something else. Although this base is still very rustic and clearly in its early stages, I wouldn’t even dare compare it to Burning Star Base or Silent Knight Base. But I can say one thing with certainty. This base is genuinely sincere toward its people."
"They are providing food at ridiculously low prices. Some meals cost only ten points. Have you ever been able to buy food for the equivalent of fifty low-tier zombie crystals?"
Ginger quickly shook his head.
"Fifty low-tier zombie crystals? Give me a break. As far as I know, fifty low-tier zombie crystals aren’t even enough to buy a glass of water in most bases."
Giga nodded.
"But this place is willing to give us points in exchange for our zombie crystals, and the prices here are reasonable. Surely, that’s a good sign. So let’s trust this place."
Hearing that, Ginger nodded. "I was truly being too foolish."
He immediately took out his zombie crystals and exchanged them for points.
Soon, he received his temporary identity card. Curious about his balance, he placed the card against the reader.
The moment the balance appeared, his smile froze. He grabbed Giga’s clothes excitedly. "Oh my God! Leader Giga, look at this!"
Giga turned toward the screen. "What’s wrong?"
"I have fifty thousand points!"
Giga stared at the number.
According to the exchange rate displayed by the system, one thousand points was equivalent to one low-tier zombie crystal.
That meant Ginger had received fifty thousand low-tier zombie crystals’ worth of purchasing power.
Ginger’s eyes lit up.
"Boss, I think we should declare this the most generous base in the entire world! How can they give us so many points? I truly love the decision I made to come here!"
Giga didn’t say anything, but even he felt delighted.
This place might truly be different from Silent Knight Base.
Meanwhile, Ni Mengxue noticed the sudden increase in activity around the cafeteria.
With so many people exchanging their zombie crystals for points and spending those points on food and supplies, her daily system income was skyrocketing.
The headache she had felt earlier disappeared completely. ’This is much better than I expected.’
She couldn’t help but smile.
On the other hand, Lu Yucai was quietly examining the entire base.
The more he looked around, the stronger the feeling became that this place somehow belonged to Ni Mengxue.
