No one took him seriously, and the others continued talking.

Milan, in particular, looked at Ni Mengxue with admiration.

"Miss Ni, you’re truly amazing. You managed to come up with such an effective solution."

Ni Mengxue smiled. "It was nothing."

Fu Lin, who was driving, nodded.

"Indeed. Miss Ni is very resourceful. She had previously mentioned the properties of those flowers, but I never thought of applying them this way. She’s very practical."

Ni Mengxue glanced at him before smiling calmly. "Thank you, Fu Lin."

The convoy continued moving.

That night, they stopped at the location Ni Mengxue had designated.

She immediately prepared the items required by the system mission before checking on the people they had brought from the slums.

They had barely brought any food with them.

Ni Mengxue took out 100 kilograms of pure white rice and handed it to Ai Qing.

"Make some food for everyone."

Ai Qing was primarily responsible for cooking, so he quickly got to work.

Soon, large pots of steaming white rice porridge were ready, and he distributed it among the relocated residents.

When Giga learned that Ni Mengxue was providing food for everyone, he immediately walked over and shook his head.

"Miss, there’s no need to show us so much favor. You’re already doing a great deal by taking us with you. How about this? We won’t drink the porridge. You should save it instead of wasting it on us. We know how to endure hunger."

Ni Mengxue smiled.

"This food was provided by Fair Shallow Land. If you truly feel grateful, then work hard and contribute to the base."

Giga’s eyes instantly became moist. He looked up at the night sky and quietly said, "The stars are truly beautiful tonight."

Ni Mengxue smiled. "Indeed."

Giga returned to the relocated residents.

Everyone looked at him expectantly.

Some stared at the steaming bowls in front of them and swallowed hard.

They desperately wanted to drink the porridge, but they had been surviving in the slums for so long that they were used to suppressing their needs.

They also didn’t want to make Giga look like he was taking advantage of Ni Mengxue’s generosity.

So everyone waited for his decision.

Giga smiled. "She’s generous. Just drink it."

He looked around at everyone. "And to repay her, make sure Fair Shallow Land thrives."

Everyone’s eyes became moist.

They silently nodded before finally picking up their bowls and drinking the warm porridge.

Ni Mengxue used this opportunity to start placing the blueprints for the new base.

She selected blueprints for a school, a clinic, and several residential buildings, then handed them over to the people responsible for construction in the base by uploading the copies onto the base’s kiosk.

The more she worked on Fair Shallow Land, the more curious she became about the base itself.

So far, she had only managed it through the system. She had never actually seen it with her own eyes. ’Soon, I’ll finally be able to see it.’

Just thinking about it made her excited. However, the journey ahead became increasingly difficult.

Until now, they had mostly encountered low-tier zombies, ranging from Level One to Level Seven. These zombies were relatively easy to deal with.

But soon, mid-tier zombies began appearing.

Level Seven zombies were a pain in the ass to deal with. Not because of their strength, but rather their ability to recognize attacks and their speed.

Ni Mengxue’s expression became serious. ’If Fair Shallow Land is surrounded by Level Seven zombies, we’ll have a huge problem.’

She would have to clear the surrounding area before the base could truly develop.

Meanwhile, the relocated residents were gradually being asked to participate in the battles.

Giga, who was a bachelor and the leader of the slum residents, had formed a team of five people. Most of them were men, as there were very few women among the slum population.

Ni Mengxue felt slightly discouraged by this discovery. ’Still, with so many people available for labor, we should be able to develop the base much faster.’

She watched as the slum residents fought the zombies using sheer numbers, while Lu Yucai’s subordinates provided support.

Eventually, they managed to deal with the Level Seven zombies. However, not everyone came out unscathed.

One of the men was injured.

The atmosphere among the slum residents immediately became tense. They all knew what an injury like this could mean.

In Silent Knight Base, anyone suspected of being infected was often treated as disposable.

The injured man stared at the scratch on his hand. His name was Huang Meng.

He looked at the wound before quietly glancing toward Giga. Giga lowered his gaze without saying anything.

Huang Meng’s eyes filled with tears. He tried to suppress his sobs, not daring to attract anyone’s attention.

Slowly, he turned toward the nearby forest. The convoy was currently traveling along a highway surrounded by dense forest.

Huang Meng clearly intended to disappear into the woods before he lost consciousness and became a danger to everyone else.

"Where are you going?" Ni Mengxue’s voice suddenly stopped him. "Come here."

Huang Meng turned around. For a moment, hope appeared in his eyes. But that hope quickly disappeared, replaced by a mocking smile.

He didn’t say anything. Instead, he raised his injured hand and pointed at the wound.

Ni Mengxue sighed.

"First, let’s examine whether you’ve actually been infected with the zombie virus. Once we know the answer, we’ll decide what to do."

Huang Meng’s eyes widened. He quickly gestured with his hands. ’Can we really do that?’

It was only then that Ni Mengxue realized he was mute. She sighed before walking over and examining his wound carefully.

After a moment, she said, "You haven’t been infected. You were cut by your own knife, which was tainted by zombie blood."

Everyone from the slums, including Giga and Lu Yucai’s subordinates, looked at her in surprise.

Giga quickly asked, "But, Miss Ni, even if we cut ourselves with our own weapons after using them to kill zombies, isn’t there still a chance of becoming infected?"
