Chapter 99: Ch 99: A Grand Opportunity - Part 2

The screen finally stopped flickering once Ethan opened his eyes, and he looked around with an unsure expression until his eyes fell on his teacher.

"What happened-"

"You fainted while talking to me. The pill you took must have been too much for your body. You should go to your room and rest now."

The teacher smiled at Ethan to show that she was harmless, but Ethan did not believe this. Suspicion was clear on his face.

Without evidence, there was nothing he could do. He sighed and decided to head back. But as soon as he headed back to his room, his head started to hurt.

"Ugh, this headache...this does not feel like a normal headache. It feels like my head is going to be split open."

Ethan complained as his body started to feel small bursts of mana shock until he was groaning in pain. And after a while, Noah came in and gave him a small pill, which helped him calm down.

’Thank God my guiding was not picked up by the screen. All it seems to show is me giving Ethan some medicine to calm him down.’

"Noah, what did you give Ethan? He was clearly out of it and ready to go on a rampage a second ago, but now he seems to be just fine."

Daniel asked this question as he focused on the small white pill. He seemed interested in it and was likely wondering if he could replace his guiding with this pill.

"Oh, that? It was something I got from my sponsor. He said that it’s a sleeping pill for espers and I should only use it when truly necessary. It was also the last one I had."

Noah tried to make his voice sound as sad as he could. He did not want to be questioned about this topic anymore, so he dropped the hints that it was a sad story.

Daniel, who was good at picking up hints, understood what Noah was implying and quickly showed his condolences.

"Ah, I see. So it was a cherished item for you? Then, was it fine for you to use it like this? You could have called for me to guide Ethan since it looked like he was having a breakdown. I could have helped faster."

Noah looked a little shocked before he slowly calmed his expression and nodded.

"Ah, I should have done that. I...I completely forgot that you were even out there. I am not proud to admit it, but I panicked a little and lost a little control over my powers as well."

That was a lie. But Noah had no intention of telling Daniel that he had the situation under control and that the other guide was not needed.

However, what worried Noah right now was how quiet Alan was. He was looking at the screen without even blinking, and for a second, Noah was worried about whether he was recalling a memory at this moment or not.

As far as Noah knew, neither Subject E-001 nor G-002 had their memories, and that was why they were given a second chance to live their lives outside the labs.

It was calculated that there was no profit in bringing them back to the labs. At least, in Alan’s case. Daniel was an added bonus since he was a guide made only to keep Alan in check.

’I wonder if things would have changed had I revealed my true rank.’

But that was unlikely.

After all, Noah was a guide, and what the labs wanted was another esper. Noah would have most likely been shoved in with another esper...or 10, since he was never a part of an active pair.

Not that it was important right now.

"Ughh...what happened here?"

Ethan finally tried to open his eyes, but he looked far too exhausted to push himself up. Noah quickly walked over to sit beside him and placed a hand on his shoulder.

"It’s fine. Don’t push yourself to get up. You were in a bad condition earlier, so you should rest for now."

Noah reassured him while Ethan slowly blinked his eyes and looked around the room. His gaze eventually landed on Alan, who was still staring at the screen with an unreadable expression.

"What...was that?"

Ethan asked weakly, and Daniel quickly moved closer to him.

"You had a breakdown. Noah managed to calm you down, but you were completely out of control before that. It must have been caused due to a lack of guiding."

Ethan frowned at those words and slowly raised a hand to rub his forehead.

"Lack of guiding? That should not be happening. I remember going to talk to the teacher...and then everything became blurry. After that, I don’t remember anything."

Noah’s heart skipped a beat when he heard this.

’So his memories really were affected. That means what we saw on the screen was probably everything he remembers as well.’

He glanced toward Alan, who finally looked away from the screen before pulling it back. There was no need for Ethan to know what happened.

"Interesting."

Alan muttered, and there was something strange about his voice that made Noah uneasy.

"What is interesting?"

Noah asked carefully.

Alan looked at him before giving him a small smile.

"I just found it interesting that our teachers are involved in such a mess. Experimenting on children? All hell would break loose if this news got out."

Daniel’s expression darkened.

"If that is true, then we need to report this."

"We do. But where can we report this? If one teacher is in on it, that means the whole facility is on it."

That was the unfortunate truth of this academy. All the bastards were in the same boat so they would hold it up together until they no longer could.

Moreover, the police would also be involved, not to mention people in high-up places...

"Tsk, are you saying that it is an impossible fight and we should give up?"

Daniel asked and Alan shook his head.

"Of course not. But let’s wait and gather more evidence for now. We will need solid proof before we can go to the media and blow this issue up."
