Chapter 54: Ch 54: Getting to Alan’s room

"Ahh...don’t worry, Student Alan, we are going to open up an investigation and look into this matter. We will tell you the results as we find them."

The teacher insisted as they tried their best to calm Alan down and send him back. But he was not satisfied with their answer in the slightest.

In fact, the more they insisted that they were going to take care of this matter, the worse Alan felt about leaving this all up to them.

Still, he had to pretend to give in for now so that he could press them about this investigation later. So he smiled and nodded to show that he understood.

"I see. In that case, I will be leaving this all up to you all. Please keep me in the loop."

He told the teachers before he headed back to his room. The sun was about to rise, and soon, a new day would begin. And with it, it would be time for Alan to start his investigation as well.

It was clear that the teachers wanted to hide the truth of what happened, but he was not going to allow that to happen.

At least, not while he was still interested in Noah.

"Hey, what are you doing here? Do you know what time it is? I was sleeping soundly..."

Ethan pointed out as he yawned. But despite his complaint, he had come down to meet Noah and Daniel once he had been called.

His own actions surprised him. He was usually not one to help others, much less sacrifice his sleep for this. But one look at Noah’s face made it all worth it.

"Ethan, I need a favour from you."

Noah reached forward and grabbed his hands. The touch made Ethan blush, and he tried to pull his hands back, but it was of no use. Noah’s grip was far too tight, and Ethan’s own instincts were failing him.

"W-What can I help you with?"

He asked with a slight blush on his face.

Ethan could feel someone glaring daggers into his face, and he dared to look behind Noah, only to see Daniel trying to kill him with his eyes alone. But he was able to ignore it and focus on Noah instead...which was surprisingly easy.

A-And was it only him, or was Noah really too close to him? Ethan felt like he could even see the other guide’s pores from this close, and that made his throat itch and-

Noah was suddenly yanked back by Daniel, and the glare Ethan got got worse.

"D-Daniel-"

Noah asked in slight panic as he looked at the other guide. But Daniel just looked at him with a calm expression before letting out a sigh.

"Focus on what we are here for. The others will start getting up soon."

Daniel pointed out, and Noah let out a startled sigh.

"Ah, you are right. I...kind of forgot about that. Anyway, Ethan, we need your help getting somewhere. Can you help us?"

Noah asked, and Ethan blinked in shock before he nodded slowly. His mind was finally coming back to him, along with the embarrassment of what had just happened.

"What do I-"

"We need you to sneak us into Alan’s room tonight. I know it’s a lot to ask for, but there is a reason we need to get there. Can you help?"

Ethan’s good mood came plummeting down at that request, and he could not help but frown.

He did not even know why he felt this irritated at the fact that Noah had asked him for help getting to Alan’s room.

’Why his room and not mine?’

Ethan wanted to ask him and shake him, but he took a deep breath and decided that the best thing to do would be to reject this request.

An esper’s dorm was no place for guides to be. Not only was it not safe, but the other espers would have their eyes on them...especially someone like Noah, who would be their prime target for bullying.

"I am sorry, but I don’t think that it’s a good idea for you to come here. It’s not you, of course. The problem is the espers here. They are not safe to be around."

Ethan had no shame and no loyalty toward his fellow espers, so he decided to throw them under the bus.

But the expression on Noah’s face did not change.

"I know. But I still think it’s better for us to be in Alan’s room tonight. So please, help us out."

Noah asked, and Ethan sighed before he made a decision.

"If you need a safe space, then come to my room. I also have a single room and I-"

He never got to finish his words because a huge wave of power struck him, rendering him speechless.

The owner of the power was Alan, and the esper quickly sprinted over to them with a smiling face. But that smile hid his irritation and even looked a little sinister.

"Oh my! It seems like I have a few guests tonight. Ethan, why won’t you invite my guests inside and show them to my room? Are we not friends?"

Alan, that bastard, decided to be dramatic, and he clutched his heart to show that he was wounded. But there was no hurt or regret on his face, just anger and annoyance hidden behind a well-crafted mask.

It made Ethan grit his teeth, and somehow, Daniel echoed his sentiment.

"Noah, there’s been a change in plans. I don’t think it’s safe for us to be in Alan’s room tonight either. Let’s take a day off tomorrow and get off campus-"

Daniel grabbed Noah’s hand and started to drag him when Alan interfered and grabbed Noah’s other arm to hold him in place.

"You are free to leave if you want, Daniel. But Noah came to me, right? That means he wants me to protect him, and I want to protect him as well. Since we both want the same thing, you can leave this to me and head out."

Alan told Daniel, and the tension became thick enough that it could be cut with a knife.
