Chapter 52: Ch 52: You saved me?

Daniel’s heart was beating a mile a minute after hearing Noah’s voice.

He felt happy at first, but then panic spread across his chest as he realized what was happening. And it did not take him long to come to the same conclusion as the other two did.

"These fucking teachers! Are they trying to kill Noah? Maybe coming to this academy was not a good idea-"

But Daniel had nowhere else to go if not here. He could not return to that hellhole he called his home without results.

No, he needed to prove to everyone that he was capable and that their opinion of him was wrong. He needed to be successful-

"Darn it! Now is not the time for this. Ugh, I never thought I would call this number so soon."

Daniel felt disgusted even looking at Alan’s number on his phone. He was not the one who saved it, either.

The esper had saved this number on his phone, telling him to contact the esper if there was an emergency with Noah. Who knew that he would need to use it so soon?

He made the call with a disgusted face and held the phone away from his ear. He almost wished Alan wouldn’t pick up the call when the esper did.

"Why are you calling me? Did you have another idea about how to punish those kids-"

"Noah is in danger. There is a monster loose in the medical wing, and he called for help. I don’t think the teachers are going to make a move...hey, are you listening to me?"

Daniel asked, but the other line had gone silent. And then, Alan let out a growl before he got himself under control.

"Those people are really playing with fire now. Fine, if this is how they want to play, then I guess I will indulge them."

Alan cut the call off, but Daniel had a feeling he was going to take care of this situation. Still, he felt worried and decided to head back after the esper anyway. He wanted to see what Alan would do next.

"How long do you think we will have to wait here for? Staying like this is not good for your body."

Riku told Noah, and he nodded. He could feel the pressure on his still-injured body, and it was making him flinch. But thankfully, it was manageable right now.

"Do you think the academy will be forced to take action if we are able to get to the main building?"

Noah asked, knowing that it was a maybe at this point. They were in no condition to make it past this monster.

"God darn it. We cannot stay here for long either. The debris will start collapsing any second, and we will be crushed. Let’s at least try making it to the other side."

Riku told him, and then he began to make his way to the open field in the opposite direction of the monster.

Unfortunately, they were spotted immediately, and the monster attacked them all.

They dodged, but it caused them to be separated.

Noah fell not far away as he lost control of himself and dropped the esper as well. But the monster ignored the unconscious esper and headed toward him, indicating that he was the target all along.

"Noah? God darn it! This is not right. Hey, leave him alone-"

Riku yelled, only for the monster to turn toward him for a second but then go back to Noah. He felt like he was caught between a rock and a hard place, and he could only let out a laugh of disbelief.

’What do I do now? What do I do-’

Unfortunately, the monster did not give him a choice in this matter as it lunged toward Noah with its claws open.

Noah kept his eyes open, ready for any opportunity he saw. If he had to sacrifice his arm to stop this monster, then he was ready to take that opportunity as well...

But then, something pulled him back and smashed the monster away at the same time.

The threads of mana that surrounded his waist felt familiar, and so did the arms holding him.

"You-"

He looked up at the familiar eyes, and Alan let out a chuckle at his bewildered expression.

"What, did you miss me? Sorry for keeping you waiting for so long. I got a late call, so I came here late as well." ℯℯ𝑙.

Noah felt the tension in his body leaving as Alan put him back down. He could not help but feel like everything was going to be alright once more because Alan was with him.

The monster started to get back up, and Alan’s mana bound it down. It created a loud noise that was certain to bring the teachers running toward them.

"What happened? What is that noise...? Student Alan, are you using your powers? Just what in the world-"

As expected, the teachers came quickly, and they immediately started to scold Alan for using his powers.

But not only did Alan not care about their words, he also decided to walk toward the monster with Noah right behind him.

"Hey, place your hand on top of the monster’s body."

Alan commanded, and Noah did as he was told to. He felt his hands tingling, and before he knew it, the monster had been blasted into pieces.

Noah immediately looked up at Alan’s satisfied expression and then at the expressions of the teachers who watched this happen.

Then, the teachers started to get impatient and started yelling-

"Student Alan, don’t use your powers-"

"But I did not use my powers at all. It was Noah. You all saw it as well, right? But as I recall, as per the rules, the guides are allowed to use their powers if they are under threat. Surely you are not going to take this back and tell us that this rule does not apply."

The teachers and Noah all gasped at Alan’s sly words.

The teachers looked speechless, but Noah felt even a bit betrayed by his actions.

’Y-You...! Are you using me as an excuse to vent your anger? Do it yourself if you want to. Stop involving me in your schemes...!’
