Chapter 49: Ch 49: What’s the Progress?

"We are still looking into this matter, so there is no need for you to worry. So far, we have concluded that there was no tampering with the guns and it was a one-time incident. We are looking into the gun’s maintenance and-"

"Teacher, do you take us for fools?"

Ethan asked, cutting their teacher off. His interference made their teacher angry, but he held himself back from saying anything because he did not want to get into trouble.

’Hold yourself back. This is a highly influential kid. If you mess with him, then your career as an Esper is over...’

That was the only way a proud A-class esper like the teacher was able to hold himself back.

"Pardon me, but may I ask what you are talking about? You almost talk as if you have evidence-"

"But we do have evidence that someone tampered with the guns. Are you still going to insist that this is due to a faulty gun?"

Daniel asked, and the teacher immediately countered him.

"I am afraid that the testimony of someone who is injured won’t count. Whatever Student Noah saw cannot be taken as evidence-"

"I see. So you knew that this incident happened because someone was involved in tampering with those guns. But you still chose to ignore it. I guess this will add to the charges that I am going to press against you all."

Alan’s smile widened, and all the teachers shuddered at the look he was giving them.

They suddenly felt like they were prey standing in front of a predator and being given one last chance to live.

But Alan was a human and not a beast, so he was someone who could be reasoned with. As an esper, he was someone who could understand his fellow esper the best.

So the teachers decided to use that to get Alan to see their side.

"Student Alan, there is no need to get so hasty. Why don’t you stop for a few seconds and think about what you are doing? Are you willing to put the blame on your fellow senior esper?"

The teacher asked, causing Daniel to scoff at them.

"So you do know who the culprit is, but you still chose to ignore it?"

Daniel’s accusation finally started to get to the teacher, and his haughty attitude did not help his case.

The A-class esper could take being talked down to by Alan and Ethan because of their backgrounds. But how could they take the same when it was a guide?

No matter how strong Daniel was, he was ultimately someone beneath them.

"Student Daniel, don’t test our patience. We told you to drop it-"

"But Daniel is not the only one asking you to investigate this properly. I am doing the same. Are you telling me to drop this issue as well?"

Alan decided to get involved, and the teachers panicked.

Alan had only stepped in front of Daniel because he knew that this involved Noah. He had no other reason to be on Daniel’s side. But the teachers saw this differently.

For them, this was an esper protecting his chosen guide, and that meant that anything they said to Daniel would be taken seriously by Alan as well...and since Ethan was involving himself, did that mean he was trying to win the guide over?

Not that it mattered.

What mattered here was the fact that they had messed up, and they now needed to make the situation right.

"Teacher, I am going to say this just once—you need to choose which side you stand on. Are you on our side? Or will you continue to protect that esper who caused this mess?"

Alan asked the teachers, and they sighed while panicking.

In reality, they needed to take both sides if they wanted to survive. And to find that solution, they needed time.

"Student Alan, we understand that this is a dire matter. As such, we shall look into it for you. Please wait for us to finish our investigation. We shall inform you once it’s over."

The teachers tried to get more time, but Alan’s glare did not lighten.

He continued to smile at the teachers, but it made them feel even more scared.

"Don’t worry, I will give you all the time that you need. But if anything were to happen in the meantime...then I will start pressing charges."

The teachers nodded, and as soon as the trio was gone, they immediately decided to tell the senior that he needed to take it easy.

"Tsk, that brat is causing us so much trouble. Just because he has a rich father and is an SS-class, he thinks he can do anything?"

A teacher complained, and the other one agreed.

"That’s right! But that kid is also arrogant. Do you think he will agree to stop? He has set his eyes on Daniel, after all."

The second teacher asked, and the third teacher sighed.

"Well, between him and Alan, it is clear who is superior. The senior will have no choice but to give up."

That much was true, but somehow, the teachers had a feeling that the senior wouldn’t see it the same way.

The teachers sighed, hoping that an accident wouldn’t happen before they could come up with a solution.

"Let’s prepare a scapegoat for now who can take the blame. We cannot allow the name of our star student to be tarnished."

And that was how the teachers started their planning. But little did they know that none of this was going to matter.

The kid they were protecting had his own plans, and he was going to execute them soon.

That night, when everyone had finally gone to sleep, a shadow snuck into the medical wing.

More accurately, it tried to sneak into the room Noah was in, but immediately had to hide because Doctor Riku was making his rounds.

The beam of the flashlight almost exposed the intruder before he managed to keep himself hidden behind the pillar.

The senior esper let out a sigh as soon as he watched Doctor Riku leave the room, and then he continued to the next room.

His aim was to find Noah and take care of him once and for all.
