Chapter 37: Ch 37: Of course, the teachers knew

"Oh! It’s a love confession. It seems like we have nothing to worry about. Student Daniel, it seems like this esper likes you a lot. Would you like to meet him and give him a chance as your bond partner?"

The teachers looked excited by the letter instead of worried, which made Noah wonder if they had all been dropped as children and grown up brain-defective.

But no, surely not all of them could have ended up like this. So maybe the one who was the odd one out was him...

’Should I seek therapy? Or some written theory about how this is acceptable behaviour that I need to adapt to?’

Luckily for Noah’s sanity, Daniel decided to speak up about this topic.

"Have you all lost your minds? Here is a person threatening other people’s safety and making uncomfortable threats, and your first thought is that I should become his bond partner? Have you all lost your minds collectively?"

Daniel’s words finally made the teachers realize that he did not share the same values as they did.

But instead of taking his words seriously, the teachers decided to double down on their decision.

"Dear student, there will come many situations in your life when it is better to go with the flow. Fighting against an esper who is determined to have you is not a good solution to your problem. Not only will it encourage him more, but it might put you in danger as well."

The first teacher imparted her wisdom, and the second one continued immediately.

"Also, you are worried about your friend, but if you give this esper what he wants, he will leave the others alone. And who knows? You might actually hit it off."

The teachers were truly trying hard to gaslight Daniel.

Noah wondered if they would have done the same if the other person had been an esper and not a guide. But somehow, he could tell that the answer was no.

’With teachers like these, it is no wonder there is such segregation between the behaviour of espers and guides in the upper classes.’

It was a shitty situation with no solution until the whole foundation changed. But the espers, who held the real power, refused to put themselves down. So even if guides wanted to back down, they were exploited instead.

Not that it was any of Noah’s concern. He had no intention of making it to the second year.

"We will give you one day to think this over, Daniel. But for the sake of your friend, I hope you make the right decision."

The teacher told Daniel, and the other guide gritted his teeth.

Noah watched the teachers leave, and he also noticed how angry Daniel was. So before Daniel could erupt, he decided to make him an offer.

"Daniel, it seems like the teachers are not going to listen to us regarding this. Do you want me to track down this esper for you and take care of it?"

Noah had more than a few ways to ’take care of’ an esper, but he was not going to overstep his boundaries. The decision on what to do rested with Daniel. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

’I would prefer Daniel to ask Alan for help. But I already know he never would...Maybe I should let it slip to Alan what happened? And if he shows no interest, then I can take care of this-’

"No! I don’t want you to get involved in all this. Your life is being threatened here, so why would you want to go back into the pit of danger? Just sit back for now."

Daniel was quick to shoot Noah’s offer down, and Noah nodded to show that he understood.

But this only made him even more curious to move forward and handle the situation for Daniel.

Noah finally returned to his room after a long day, only to see his mattress trashed. But since he had expected this, he was not shocked.

"At least they did not break down the door. I can handle this much mischief..."

But what Noah could not handle was his bed being wet and smelly. So he just sighed and decided to sleep outside. He would deal with this later.

His shoulder made it difficult for him to get comfortable, and he continued to twist and turn, trying to find a comfortable position.

But nothing helped him fall asleep.

He was about to head back inside when he suddenly sensed a presence behind him, and Noah’s first instinct was to grab the other person and pull them down.

He successfully did that and then heard a pain-filled voice complaining to him.

"Darn it! Can’t you be a little gentler with me? Your shoulder is already broken, and now you want to break mine as well?"

Noah sighed as he looked up at the healing esper from the medical wing. The esper looked annoyed, but despite his angry expression, he did not do anything to Noah.

It made Noah sigh in relief while the esper let out a sigh and grabbed him by the back of his shirt to pull him up.

"I heard from the other teachers what is happening, so you don’t need to explain it to me. I assume your room is in no condition to go back to?"

The medical esper asked, and Noah nodded. There was no point in hiding what was happening to him anyway since the teachers already knew and were even in on it.

"For now, come back with me to the medical wing. I will take care of your shoulder, and you can rest there for now. We can figure out what to do from there."

The medical esper told Noah, which surprised him. He did not think that the grumpy, tired esper would ever speak to him kindly, much less help him out.

But the esper in question just sighed and ruffled his hair.

"You just remind me of my guide, so I am willing to help you while I can. Just don’t rely too much on me, and get away from this place as soon as you can. This is no place for a B-class guide like you."
