Chapter 36: Ch 36: The Passionate letter

"Hey, wait! Is that an intruder? Daniel, call the teachers and tell them what happened. I will go and catch that kid-"

Noah started to run after the thief who was running away from Daniel’s room, and the other guide finally snapped out of his daze and did as he was instructed by Noah.

The little thief was quick on his feet because by the time Noah turned the corner, he was nowhere to be seen.

’Where did he go? How could I have lost a guide so quickly...unless...’

There was a chance that an esper was involved in this situation, and that would explain so much about the teachers’ attitude of not looking into this matter as they should.

For now, Noah had no choice but to head back empty-handed. His shoulder was also starting to hurt, and running had not done it any favours.

When he returned to Daniel’s room, the other guide was standing outside with the teachers, who were pacing around with worried expressions.

"Are you sure you saw someone running away from here? Maybe you hallucinated-"

"Then we can check the security footage...assuming it has not already been deleted or tampered with."

Noah told the teachers, and they immediately looked annoyed to see him.

Daniel, however, sneaked him a thankful glance that invalidated any hard looks Noah got from his teachers.

But the teachers clearly had no intention of helping them because they still decided to make excuses not to show them what was happening.

"I am afraid this small incident is not enough to involve the school cameras-"

"Don’t worry. I forgot until now, but I installed a small camera inside my room because this happened before. I can retrieve it to check what happened."

Daniel assured the teachers, and the pained look on their faces was clear. However, since Daniel was certain that this was what he wanted, the teachers could do nothing but nod at his words.

"Alright, if you feel so strongly about this situation, then I guess we can take a look at it."

Retrieving the camera from Daniel’s room was not hard, and the footage started to play quickly.

Noah noticed the faces the teachers made when they noticed his presence in Daniel’s room. But since they did not say anything, he ignored them as well and watched the footage.

Finally, near the end of the footage, they saw someone breaking into Daniel’s room and looking around. The person rolled around on Daniel’s bed before doing some...questionable things there.

Once he was finished, he decided to look around the room but did not touch much of the furniture. It was as if he was confirming something before he left a letter on the bed for Daniel.

It was a letter that had been blown away by the wind and had ended up under the bed.

This was all the evidence they needed to catch the culprit, but Noah had a feeling the situation would not end this simply.

"Looks like the thief who broke into my room left some evidence behind. Shall we head out and check what it is?"

Daniel asked, and the teachers nodded before following him back to his room.

One of the teachers fished out the letter before deciding who would open it. In the end, Noah volunteered because he wanted Daniel to have some form of privacy.

The letter let out a strong smell when it was opened, and Noah almost gagged before he got his reflexes under control and breathed through his mouth instead.

"This is a little too strong for me. Let it air out a bit before you read it."

Noah told Daniel, and the other guide nodded. After two minutes, he finally took the letter and read it.

But the more he read, the paler he looked until his face looked ready to explode.

This instantly made Noah worry for Daniel, and he immediately placed a hand on Daniel’s forehead to check if he was sick.

"Are you alright? Was the letter threatening enough for you to make that face? What is written in it? Can I read it?"

Noah asked as he reached for the letter, and Daniel let out a groan as if he was in pain.

"Threat? I would prefer a threat over whatever this is. Ugh, I want some bleach for my eyes right now!"

Noah felt curious about what could make the strong-headed esper behave like this, and the second he read the letter, he understood.

[Dear Daniel,

I am writing this letter to inform you that I am in love with you. Since I like you so much, I often keep an eye on you and how you behave. And I have noticed a few things about you -

First, you really hate your roommate and think of him as a parasite. But you are too kind-hearted to get rid of him yourself. So don’t worry! I will get rid of him for you so you don’t need to stress about it.

Second, that esper Alan. He is such a cocky bastard! He is nothing special. All he has is his family and teachers’ adoration. But don’t worry! I will get rid of him next.

Third, anything else that irritates you. I will make sure you have the best possible life I can give you, and nothing ever troubles you again.

Your power and your beauty have bewitched my esper heart, and I know you like me as well. Why else would you let your power out when you try to grab my hand? So please, wait for me to come and get you.

"This seems like some bullshit."

Noah could not help but say those words. A high-class guide like Daniel, with no training, could not help but let his guiding leak out when he was near espers.

It was just basic physiology.

And also, Noah was not worried about himself as much as he was about what Alan would do if he was messed with. Moreover, what kind of idiot had not already guessed that Alan’s grade on his file was not his real grade?
