Chapter 111: Ch 111: Who should help who?

"Give us...guiding..."

"A guide..."

"Come here...and help..."

Daniel smashed the espers trying to reach for him with a cloth while trying his best to get away from them. A lot of guides had already been caught in the process of running away and were currently being wrung dry.

He refused to share the same fate as those people.

"Guide-"

He activated the protective artifact he carried on him at all times and quickly ran around. He needed to find Noah and get to a safe place.

Daniel could still move around because of his high grade, but Noah would be in trouble if he stayed here any longer.

Not only would this place suck him dry, but he would also be a goner if Alan were to find him...

"Noah, where are you?"

Daniel’s soft voice called out to him, and Noah rushed toward him with all his strength.

’Please be alright, Noah! I don’t want to see anything happen to you.’

Noah ran and dodged the other espers in order to get to Daniel. He could sense that the other person was not that far off. And finally, he noticed Daniel, who was dragging himself toward Noah.

But he was not alone.

There was a heavy body leaning against his back that was familiar and made Noah’s blood boil at the same time.

"You-! Noah, get away from that esper. He is dangerous right now-"

Alan tried to push a barrier toward Daniel and smack him farther away from Noah. His eyes told Noah that he had not lost himself completely, but he was still using his situation to do what he wanted.

’This bastard is about to lose his mind, and he still wants to mess with me? I knew he had a few screws loose in his head.’

Unfortunately, Noah did not see the truth about the esper he was helping out.

"Daniel, are you alright? I was so worried about you. We should get out of here before the situation becomes any more chaotic."

Noah suggested, and he looked fine for the most part. It was because Alan was protecting him, and Daniel understood that fact. But that did not mean he liked it.

If possible, he wanted to get out of here with Noah alone and leave Alan behind. But he had a feeling Noah would complain and refuse.

Or worse, he would tell Daniel to take Alan away while he stayed behind to help.

’I would rather spend time with this bastard than leave Noah behind.’

Besides, Daniel knew from experience that he could tolerate Alan as long as Noah was between them.

They were about to head out when the familiar figure of their new professor blocked their way.

Unlike the other students and a few teachers, Professor Erin looked fresh and unaffected by what was happening. He quickly looked around with a worried expression.

"It seems like things have become a mess. Here, why don’t you hand Noah over to me? Meanwhile, you both can take care of yourselves and help each other out."

Daniel immediately frowned at Erin’s suggestion, and his grip on Noah tightened slightly as he looked at the professor with suspicion.

"Why should I hand him over to you? We can take care of Noah just fine."

Erin raised an eyebrow at the question, but his expression remained calm despite the chaos around them.

"Because Noah is a guide, and this entire area is filled with unstable esper energy. You two are both compatible as an esper-pair guide of the same grade so it will be better if you help each other out. Noah will just suffer between the two of you."

Alan let out a quiet scoff from behind Noah.

"I don’t like the idea of leaving him with you either. You are a high-grade esper as well, right? What makes you think you won’t take advantage of him?"

Erin’s eyes narrowed slightly at Alan, but he did not argue with him.

"Then what do you suggest? The three of you stay here until another wave hits? Can you assure me that you won’t suck Noah dry?"

That question silenced the pair.

Noah could feel the tension between them growing, but he was too exhausted to deal with another argument.

"Enough. We don’t have time for this."

Noah took a breath before looking at Erin.

"Professor, can you really keep me safe?"

Erin’s expression softened immediately.

"Of course. I would not have offered otherwise."

Noah nodded and slowly reached for Erin’s hand.

"Then take me."

The moment Erin grabbed Noah’s hand, Alan’s expression darkened, while Daniel looked even more uncomfortable.

Neither of them wanted to let Noah go, but they also knew that Erin was currently the safest option. But the bitter taste in their mouth refused to leave.

Noah tried to push Alan’s arm away and head toward Erin, but Alan decided he was not going to let go.

"I won’t hand him over to you or anyone else. This is your fault to begin with. You were supposed to look over the situation and make sure nothing like this happened. But you teachers failed your duty."

Alan’s anger was starting to take over his mind and he was starting to lose this mind.

Daniel knew that he needed to interfere, but just the thought of guiding Alan made him frown. But then he looked at Noah and he changed his mind.

"Professor, please don’t worry. I will take care of Noah. I will be the best choice for this considering that I am a guide as well."

Daniel’s words currently held the most logic and no one could argue with him. He was the only guide along with Noah here.

"I trust you Daniel, but I don’t trust Alan. What if you-"

Erin’s phone went off mid-speech and he took it out to check who it was. His face suddenly twisted into a frown as he looked down at his ringing phone. His face suddenly looked annoyed but he sighed and put it away.

"It seems like I have some work to do. I will leave Noah to you, Daniel. As for you Alan...you should stay away"
